After staying with a friend on Capitol Hill for about five weeks, I'm finally settling in at a small studio that's just about all the room I really need. Getting used to hearing other people go down the hall or doing whatever upstairs, but I'm sure that will pass. Last night someone pulled a fire alarm at like 3 am, so that was fun.

Only 30,000 more to go.

Unlikely they'll move. At least, not for being un/underemployed.

If they're in tech (which is where I assume your ire is directed), 90+% of them had about a dozen emails and phone calls about jobs that they could be interviewing for tomorrow.

Not to mention that the article states that most of them are being offered to be reassigned to other open positions within Amazon.

Oh you mean they're not actually going to fire 30k people. Thanks for clearing that up for me.

It was a joke, did I hit a little too close to the giant glass dome?

I'm in the industry, I know how it works. I don't think replying to condescension with snark is inappropriate.

My point wasn't to be condescending. I had no way of knowing from your comment that you're aware.

I really was just making conversation. Basically a longer way of saying "no such luck" as a response to your initial comment. And while "no such luck" was my initial thought, that's pretty vague for a public forum post.

No harm no foul. I think we just misread each other.

And no, I don't work at Amazon, never have, and doubt I ever will.

No worries, I apologize for giving into my default cynical short responses. I am trying to work on that, but clearly could be doing better.

Seattle-ish
Could be a blessing in disguise. A guy I worked while I was there with was able to go off his anxiety meds after being fired from Amazon. I shit you not. Basically no one who was in my department is still there because you can make the same money for like half the hours elsewhere.

About what I've heard as well. My wife was working at Amazon and was told by a few past amazon employees at the company she's going to that the biggest challenge is getting used to people actually not working after 5. Which is great. She was contatantly working well into the night at home.

Dunno why I never saw this thread before. Hi from Greenwood.

Anybody have any interest in me lugging a PC full of multiplayer games and/or a Switch (and a zillion controllers) to a pub, coffee shop, or other public spot for the sake of a game night? Near future would be swell...

Don't exactly know where Greenwood is, still quite poor with my Seattle locations but if anything's near me I'm definitely down for a game night with people here.

Just north of Ballard. Greenwood Ave has a bunch of cool little restaurants and spots, including our city's newest bar-cade, Coindexter's (which has both a Mario Kart Arcade GP and Killer Queen).

So I just blindly bought tickets to see Lorde at Key Arena because, well, it's Lorde and I adore her. THEN I check the program and fucking Run the Jewels is opening. What a weird and awesome surprise.

Anyone else going to this show?

If I'm not lazy and cheap tickets in the intranet I'll go, but I saw Lorde live earlier this year and I've seen RTJ as well, both amazing tho! RTJ especially.

Nice. I've not seen either yet but I'm big fans of both. I've watched enough vids to know I am in for a treat, though.

Not really familiar with Lorde outside of a few songs but I enjoyed those. I should definitely look into that for RTJ though.

Carpenter Brut is coming in April and that's the one I've been looking forward to the most lately.

Ooh at the Showbox, no less. That's a great venue for that show. Thanks for the heads up. Love CB.

Nice! Well if you end up going let me know and I'll buy you a drink.

Forgot it was at Showbox but yeah great venue. His show was at Nuemos last year and it was incredible. Had Magic Sword as the opener.

We did it, guys!
https://www.seattlepi.com/local/wea...an-Alaska-s-Arctic-coast-Tuesday-12627009.php
The early morning lows around much of Western Washington were colder than the Arctic coast of Alaska.

Early morning reports from the National Weather Service recorded a low of 28 degrees in Seattle, while observations on Alaska's Arctic coast registered at 30 degrees.
High fives all around and in your face, Alaska Arctic coast!
Although I'm up around Martha Lake and it hit 24 degrees here according to Google this morning.

Man I love RTJ but HATE the sound at Key Arena. I'd love if they played KEXP's studios or something...

Is it 21+ or kid friendly? My daughter loves pinball.

Coindexter's appears to be 21+ only for now. I'd love if they opened once a week in an all-ages way. You and your daughter might be better off checking out Flip Flip Ding Ding in Georgetown, I think I've seen families in there but double check before going. GREAT pinball selection there. (It's also near some great breakfast/lunch joints and the Fantagraphics comic book store, which has some kid-friendly stuff but also some weird/risque stuff.)

Populuxe Brewing in Ballard has a good little arcade courtesy of a relationship with the Pinball Museum which is all-ages, so at least there is that.

The Ice Box sounds cool, and their Facebook page says kids welcome. We'll have to check that out.

Little known secret (maybe?) The Skylark Cafe & Club on Delridge is great. You can go there and NOT deal with horrible crowds while watching legit open mics and other proper performance (including concerts and burlesque.) It's a hidden Seattle gem. Great place for a small group or couple.

FYI, 21+ most hours. All ages during the day. They also have really good food mostly made from scratch.

Any relation to the Skylark Cafe in Bellingham?

Nice! Thanks for all these recommendations. Didn't realize how close a lot of these places were to me. Need to do a bit of adventuring. These places sound like a lot of fun.
