Could be a case of Stockholm syndrome lol. My thoughts about the game changed during my platinum run on the PS3 which required playthroughs on all difficulty levels. I started to see the game in a new light during my second playthrough.
I stop defending it on my third go round. Sixth if you consider Reverse Rebirth as a separate play through. GBA CoM. GBA R/R. JP PS2 Re:CoM. JP PS2 R/R. English PS2 Re:CoM. English PS2 R/R 60% through - nope I'm out. Eff this game. Never even started PS3 play throughs and won't do PS4 ones either. And the trophies don't stack? LOL FUK U.

We just beat KH1 - he had a harder time with Chernabog than Ansem lol. That was surprising to me. Forgot how prominent Kairi was in the ending of this one. The entire ending video is basically dedicated to her. It makes you think that she might end up doing becoming a major player on KH2... alas.

Might just watch videos for re:COM. I will leave it up to him.

If you love him, don't make him play ReCoM.

It would have worked better as a movie than 358/2 Days imho. The actual Castle stuff is still pretty fun but the Disney worlds and bosses are just dire and a huge slog - especially if you have just beaten the first game.
Fully agreed. Personally, I would have had the playable games as KH1, KH2, BBS, Re:Coded, D3, and 0.2, and had CoM, R/R, Days, and XBC as movies.

Actually, I would have made the movies more ambitious. Instead of something you just sit and watch, you would have gotten cutscenes and playable boss fights in KH2 style with the trappings of the particular game. So the Days movie would have the limit break/final limit system and alternate attack patterns. For a CoM movie, I would straight up steal the DMW from Crisis Core and have you unleash abilities that way.

Ah, I see you're a man of culture as well
It's just super weird that that's a movie when the story was the weakest part. The gameplay was the most interesting the series has been, what with them changing genres every other world. I mean, turn based battles? Run and Gun? What?
I would have paid +20€ for a playable 358/2 Days, fuck the haters.
I would have paid 100€ and a kidney for a playable 358/2 days.
Days however was by far the most tedious infuriating game in the series. Like, even CoM wasn't so meandering and dragged out. Plus it was the first time we we revisiting worlds so it didn't feel quite as bad.

I'd pay 60€ for a remake of a ton of games not named 358/2 days.

I mean I would pay for Days remake also but doesn't mean I have to like it!

Hoping they ramp up the story of Union Cross as KH3 looms closer. Last I checked the latest non-Disney related story stuff was in September? Been following it via the YouTube translations since I'm way behind.

At the very least it will have a connection with whatever Maleficent is doing. If she actually has an impact in the overall KH3 plot or not or serves as setting up KH4 or whatever, who knows.

Re:coded having some of the best gameplay in the series and talk about it mostly being reduced to its contributions to the plot being nothing make me a bit sad honestly.

The game was so fun and packed with content that I never really cared about it not having much plot wise.

Nomura said they'll be ramping up the story in Union X now to tie in with KH3, so we should get some decent plot developments soon. He mentioned how the Ven in Union and other Ven and how they tie in together, so the assumption is that it'll explain how he ended up the way he did in BBS after Union X.
Union Cross should have been setting the stage for KH4, not tying into KH3.
I'm sure they'll do that with the Master of Masters and Luxu sometime.
It seems to just be a place for Nomura to dump whatever set up he wants for future games.
I find it pretty funny that Chi developed all the way from being this browser game, into a story about the keyblade war, into a story setting up future plot elements and tying in things pre-BBS into the current time.

I kind of wish it just ended how the original Chi did, with your character dying fighting in the keyblade war after it being failed to be prevented (and you being led into the assumption that you reunited with your friends in Kingdom Hearts while dying) it was more tragic than Birth By Sleep in a way.

That's good. It has me engaged despite me having very little grasp on what's actually going on with the War storyline, and where everything is actually taking place. A Nomura storyline that's delivered this piece-meal is actually painful.

I don't know anything about Union X story other than what was in that "movie"
I do want to see MoM in KH3 because I liked what I saw of him in the movie but he already said he won't be there... although I don't fully trust Nomura. :P
Curious Luxu will have some role...

I feel like the stuff with Luxu, MoM and the Gazing Eye is setting up some big reveal for KH3. I can see Luxu at least appearing.

The gazing eye's probably gonna be a Xehanort X thing where they can see everything if they have the eye around.
Really curious about the box though, perhaps it holds the key to surviving the Keyblade War and making it to the next world.

Yeah I think it was more interesting when they did updates in the original Chi, because it wasn't as padded out and we got plot developments more often, so it was exciting following it month to month. At times it feels padded out in the Disney worlds with Union to delay the main plot. (I guess maybe because it ties in with KH3?)

Yeah I'm hoping it's because they're saving stuff for when KH3 is closer to release and we get a more steady stream of story updates.

There's not much more to it than what is in the movie. They've spent, like, 9 months revealing 5 people who survived the Keyblade war and are meant to be the new union leaders. And not even properly introducing them, just showing who they are.

Started my full replay through the series.

Jesus Christ, the Jungle Slider mini-game is absolute trash. Why can't I grab the final fruit in the 5th stage? I lean to the left the entire time and Sora doesn't grab the damn thing.

Watching the cutscenes of Chain of Memories... the Organization members in this one were so much better than the ones we got in II (minus a few like Saix, Xemnas, and Xigbar). I'm glad we are going to see Marluxia again. Larxene and Vexen were great.

So is Square gonna have it's own conference or are they gonna drop the KH3 bomb during the Sony Conference?
Could also be at MS and Sony both, just like FF15. It's big enough that both probably would be happy to feature it and I doubt Sony bothers having a marketing partnership. MS in particular got a positive reception for showing stuff like DBZ so they must be thinking, why not show KH3 and get positive buzz, especially since they have their stuff before Sony. This is total asspull but they could for example do a traditional compilation trailer of many worlds in one conference and deeper look of one particular (Frozen) in the other.

I don't think SE does a conference but it could happen. I just feel like they weren't too happy about the overall reception of E3 2015. It felt pretty clunky and all the attention was at FF7 announcement at Sony anyway so it's like, why even bother doing your own thing at that point. Especially when the big 3 get a much bigger audience and potentially eyes of new customers. The kind of people who watch SE conference are also very likely to buy their products regardless if they hold one or not.

Even if they don't do a conference, they will still do the Square Enix presents thing and KH3 should be on there. Hope Nomura is there like 2015.

If they do a live E3 demo of KH3 like they did FFXV let's hope they pick a moment in the game that isn't a mess to play.

Yeah it's a shame. While KH2's organization members had some nice qualitys to them I feel like it was so much more interesting to see the in-fighting and rebellion between them in Chain of Memories, along with their personalitys.
I know a bunch of folks don't really like Chain of Memories but I thought it had a interesting story along with characters outside of the Disney worlds that carried it quite well, which made the drop off in writing quality unforunate in 2.

There was that bit in 358/2 Days where it seemed Saix and Axel were conspiring together, tieing back into what happened in Castle Oblivion. That plot point hasn't gotten much attention since.

As much as people complain about how complicated and dumb everything got in later games, I'd strongly argue that KH2 is the worst written game in the series. Even when everything got really crazy later on, the main characters were generally written fairly well. The character writing is a mess is KH2, to say nothing about the completely random stuff later games had to fix, like Kairi inexplicably being able to use a keyblade.

It keeps getting hinted at, how they used to be friends and have some kind of goal together (that might've changed a little for Saix which would explain why they are so distant nowadays), but yeah, overall that stuff is still very much a mystery.

Eh. She's a princess of light and had gone through a lot to be where she was, I think she had shown enough resolve and strength of heart to be able to wield one. I never thought it was all that inexplicable. It's kinda silly they decided to explain it later like they did. I didn't think that was anything that warranted having to be explained.

I highly doubt they do it at MS conference. They barely promote the game on Xbox as is. I honestly feel it will it will most likely be during the Sony conference seeing as it was first announced in that conference.

Kairi getting a Keyblade in KH2 was so odd. Riku just casually gives her it lol.
What was more odd was that randomly asshole line she gave after it.
"You know Sora's completly hopeless without us"

They have been pretty platform neutral in their promoting minus being announced at Sony's stage at E3. They don't even use button promts to keep the trailers platform neutral.

Be mindful that the big question is if MS wants it on their stage, and I think there is a solid chance they do. It checks a bunch of boxes that DBZ did last year: japanese, very different from other games at the show for diversity, recognizeable IP and a loud+faithful fanbase. It would be smart from MS to get the hype of KH fanbase be a part of their presentation since they go before Sony and get that early excitement. In the case they did requested it from Square I think they would agree to it no questions asked. Remember that the actual marketing for KH3 hasn't even started yet and there literally is no reason not to appear at both events if they can help it. It's no coincedence that FFXV appeared at both MS and Sony. Any publisher that get a chance to promote a big upcoming game on Sony, MS or Nintendo presentation, they will.

Like I said I don't see it being at MS. More at Sony conference. MS did absolutely nothing to promote KH3 at all as they don't even have the collections on there yet which doesn't make any sense seeing as it's coming out on that system. It makes more sense to see it on Sony or there own. Sorry I'm just not seeing it on MS press conference at all.

There hasn't been a chance for MS to show the game yet (and who knows if they wanted to considering nobody knew the launch date). E3 2013 was announcement and it obviously was 1 event only, next time it was at Square E3 2015 presser and that was the last time it has ever appeared at E3.

That said I don't think it would appear at MS and skip Sony. I'm saying that there is a possibility that it appears at both like XV did.

There has been something of a pattern of MS getting at least one big Japanese game on their E3 stage every other year or so. Off the top of my head, there was MGSV, FFXV, and DBFZ. I could see them doing it.

(Not exclusively MS's stage mind you, more like XV)

I just finished the 1.5 and 2.5 collection. Over 300 hours of game play. 100% both KH1 and KH2 and had a lot of fun doing it.

I gotta say, the story is just ridiculous. It's a good thing the games are fun to play and the mixing of FF with Disney is always fun for me. BBS is indeed super important to everything that happens in the series but the voice acting for Aqua and Terra was just so so terrible.

They must've hired a new voice director because I thought both did a pretty passable job in 0.2.

Yay I found the KH community thread!

So for those that would know, are the mangas considered canon? Which ones are worth checking out? And can I find them in ebook format?
