Let's start the dialogue.

Letting that sink in for me.

But yeah! I loved Black Panther! CGI would be my only criticism but I don't consider it outright terrible, but nothing too great.

Michael B. Jordan made out to be a great villain, after having often played protagonists. And Andy Serkis' Klaue made me burst out laughing a lot; he was that entertaining! Marvel Studios has definitely stepped up on their villains.

Not to mention the women are probably some of the most badass among the women depicted in the MCU, especially the Dora Milaje!

Hmmm, so there's a very real chance that BP out performs Infinity War. An embarrassment of riches, no doubt, but, still, I'm not sure that'd be such a good look.

More than that though, so many of the characters are amazing and I just want to see more of W'kabi, M'Baku, Nakia, even those who sit on T'challa's counsel but we don't hear/see much of.

Would love a movie about Wakanda itself. Hopefully we'll see a lot more of everything Wakanda.

I think Infinity War is still gonna outgross Black Panther. But it's an absolutely amazing thing in itself if Black Panther gets to $1 billion for sure. Infinity War will do at least $1.4 billion.

Also, I've never loved a cast like I love the Black Panther cast. Love watching all of their interviews they've been doing. So much love.

I'm already anticipating the Black Panther sequel more than anything in the world. And I'm still gonna watch this a third time.

Thor's mother is Frigga, she died in Dark World, had a very touching funeral and everything. Why would they suddenly change that to shoehorn in random mythology?

I am unsurprised by the success this weekend, but wow that would surprise me. I could see domestic take being larger? Anyhow, Marvel's not gonna complain either way.

Quick question, for those who seen Panther, how did they react to Ant-Man/Wasp, Deadpool 2 and Venom trailers?

Venom got the cold shoulder.

I can never tell how people react to trailer here. There's like never a reaction to trailers, cause people are usually still talking and on their phones until the movie itself starts.

The whole "turn off your phone" screen doesn't come up until all the trailers and commercials have played anyway.

But it's cool every time the Infinity War trailer is playing and that theme plays with the bass and everything, I'm enjoying that shit all by myself, and I'm taking it all in lol.

We didn't get Deadpool or Infinity War trailers, but the Ant-Man Wasp trailer was met with the normal musings and the Venom trailer had like no reaction except for people that knew what it was already and kinda of let out groans. I didn't hear anyone go, "Oh wow a Venom movie???" after the title popped up. Actually, now that I think about it, the trailer doesn't even end with the word "VENOM", it's just the V, then a quick www.venom.movie pops up. So if you're not paying attention you still wouldn't know what it really was.

I don't understand how Sony is so bad at this. They have to actively be trying.

They should've waited until April to put the teaser out, then at Comic-Con in July put out the first real trailer, then the final one in September. There, you can send me checks via paypal, Sony. Er wait, I already work for Sony, so just add it to my regular paycheck.

This is not the same situation as Justice League. It ended up being lower than Wonder Woman because audiences didn't really trust the movie thanks to how BvS was, DC films (with the exception of Wonder Woman) weren't being received in the same way as Marvel Studios films, and then the critical reception wasn't that great.

Infinity War has excitement coming off Black Panther, trust from the general public thanks to a consistent quality, and the "Harry Potter 8/Finale" effect of seeing the end of a 10-year story/saying goodbye to a number of characters.

At a minimum, this should do Star Wars numbers, unless the reviews are really bad. Had the rest of the DC films been good, Wonder Woman would have boosted the film much higher. We'll see what should have happened with Justice League post-Wonder woman when it comes to two big event films. Panther (plus the Guardians crossing over) is going to skyrocket this film into ridiculous numbers.

I'm sure this has already been put out there, but with the whole cast only guaranteed for the 4th Avengers I would love to see part of that movie take place in an alternate reality that Thanos creates at the end of A3.
Haven't seen any of that kind of comic book junk in the movies yet and could be cool.

Black Panther is one of the best superhero AND blockbuster films of all time. It will make an insane amount of money and deserves every penny it makes. The Avengers: Infinity War clearly sets up Black Panther as one of the key players in the film and we literally saw him commanding Captain America and his Wakandan army against Thanos Black Order.

What Black Panther is making is historical, but history will continue to be made in the upcoming weeks folllowing to the release of Infinity War. If anything, Black Panther is adding to this perfect storm and has just become that film's latest secret weapon. I honestly expect The Avengers: Infinity War box office to rival The Force Awakens, and for all that Marvel Studios has accomplished throughout these 18 films in less than 10 years, it's earned, well deserved and a long time coming. The MCU is easily the most appealing and popular cinematic universe and this generation's Star Wars Mania, with a much more relatable and rich sandbox. Things are about to go boom.

I'm really wondering what Ant-Man & The Wasp is gonna pull in opening weekend now. Does it get a huge bump ala Iron Man 3 or does it just get the normal sequel bump most Marvel films get? It opened to 57 mil 3 years ago, does it break 100?

If I recall antman was supposed to open higher but folks were feeling MCU 'fatigue' at the time. Due to Age of ultron backlash.

MCU fatigue was never a thing. It will never be a thing.
If I'm to be honest, I did feel "fatigue" after Ultron being such a disappointment that I skipped Ant-Man on release. I regretted it later, being how surprisingly good it was that it lifted up my spirits for MCU, but yeah. I was certainly one of them.

Understood, but what you personally felt and what the box office numbers say don't match. The movies are getting bigger and bigger returns. Black Panther's first solo is outpacing Iron Man's third.

Oh well yeah, by box office numbers that's never been a thing. I'm in agreement there.

I know BP is doing well but I almost feel like calling the people who think IW will do less crazy. When the trailer came out we all said 10 years in the making and it's gonna do amazing. Now some think it may do less than Panther. Didn't AoU get over a billion overseas alone? Black Panther being great will only help Infinity War. I'd be shocked if it didn't get past The Avengers mark.

We'll get that 2nd trailer soon for sure to build up more hype even if they don't need it.

Frigga is Thor's stepmother in the source material, and was something revealed in the comics much later on. Why does it seem to be farfetched that they would do and reveal something similar in the films?

Hm someone mentioned trinity and stuff in the other thread, and I am thinking Captain America will replace Tony Stark on the team. Cap might leave too, but she seems think closer to Tony when it comes to control. Cap will obviously get a replacement if Chris Evans character dies or he opts out.

People seem to go with:
Iron Man - Captain America - Thor
Black Panther - Captain Marvel - Doctor Strange

I just hope they can elevate Doctor Strange in his sequel and make one hell of a movie. That's probably my biggest wish for the next phase.

hmm interesting. I always viewed it as a Cap or Iron man type thing. Hulk and Thor are legit game changers but are never really bothered with Earth events unless dragged to it for personal reasons.

How big would the backlash be if they killed off T'challa in Avengers 4, so Shuri can be the Black Panther?

It's gonna be weird for sure but WW outgrossed BvS so it's not that insane.

No, each situation is completely different so the logic is faulty. WW was made by a woman director and everyone knew that since Warner made a big deal out of it and it's the best reviewed movie of the DCEU. Fans knew who was behind Justice League and the level of confidence going in was low and the reviews just cemented the perception (and having seen it myself, talk about it just being a generic CBM out there). Confidence in Infinity War is sky high and fans expect a strong tomatoes / metacritic score so the opening should be relatively close to TFA so ~240M imo. I think its got a real chance of getting close to 2 billion worldwide and if it fails to do so, Avengers 4 should break that barrier.

Justice League would of been different if Jenkins or someone else were directing it or if they had taken their time in introducing every character in their own movie, but it's all speculation at this point.

Gonna watch Guardians of the Galaxy and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 back to back now to finally decide on which I like best. Incredible how GotG2 been growing on me over the last year.

It's easy for me because there's a couple lines in GotG I feel are too edgy for their own good: the Nathan Fillion cameo and especially the whore line that falls entirely flat. (The Jackson Pollock line, on the other hand, is great.)

GotG 2 doesn't have any of that.

(I like GotG a lot but those two bits make me cringe more and more each time I see it.)

Oh man, Guardians of the Galaxy is so good. Like how much Xandar and Nova Corps we got, and I love how it all comes together. Can find almost no flaws in it. Ronan isn't that compelling of a character, but ultimately this is a film about the Guardians. He hated the Xandars and wanted to destroy them, and Thanos along the way so he could rule the universe. Ah well. This was truly a space adventure taking us to four different planets, showing us multiple ships and species. It felt so rich. One of the best MCU experiences.

New headcanon- The King of Wakanda in the 1930s was worried about Nazi excursions into Africa. He used his wardogs to funnel Vibranium and a sample of the Heart-shaped herb to professor Erskine to help tip the balance of the war to the Allies.
