What you're describing is a lineboil, and it does usually involve redrawing, but usually a loop of 3 drawings per pose. Some people get away with 2 (Ed Edd n Eddy often stuck with 2-drawing lineboils) but I've never felt comfortable going less than 3.

A friend of mine does 2 and it looks fine to me, his channel is Jaggy Lines and opts for the Home Movies style of 'squigglevision.'

Although it's important to note that Squigglevision, Home Movies, Science Court, etc. all used a computer program to 'squiggle' the art and it's never great when a computer does it. Similarly I've seen some people in Flash just duplicate a keyframe, click on the art, and then click on the straighten/round button one or twice to mess with the line width consistency. That usually looks pretty bad and I wouldn't recommend doing it that way.

thanks for the brief explainer! I guess I'll try it out once I can figure out how to get photoshop to stop microlagging

Another superhero for a kid with type 1 diabetes that I did as part of a series of ten illustrations for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation:

7VnytE5.jpg

He wanted to be a combination of the Hulk, Spider-Man, Iron Man and wanted a cape XD It's always fun when the kids get a little wacky with their requests.

Thanks! I've been doing that type of stuff recently, my eyes hate me for it!

Here's a couple of drawings I did recently (trying not to spam this thread, so I usually wait a bit to post here!)

Awesome work everyone! Love seeing 3D stuff in here too. I'm going to start messing with that again soon.

I really dig your colors.

Thank you! I think I've seen your work since the "other place." Your project is really cool. Must be very rewarding to produce stuff that makes these kids a little happier!

I was wondering if I could get some help. I need help creating a poster for boxing because I sm starting a boxing club at my place of work aka a school to help promote healthy living, eating and also a program for people with anxiety and depression etc. Its mostly to learn the skill but also used as an outlet. I suck at art and am wondering if someone can design a simple poster for me. If possible coild you take inspiration with the Bullet Club Logo

Instead of having a gun and bullets boxing gloves would suffice, as well as you can keep the skull or just have a silhouette of a person head etc. You have complete creative control do what you do, I would truly be greatly and it would help advertise my program to students. Thanks!

EDIT: also the name would just be Boxing Club

I mean, good luck but asking a bunch of creatives to create free art that also rips off an existing logo is not a good look. Im sure you mean well but thats not really how things work (nor how they should work) I practice boxing myself so its not for lack of empathy.

The one on the right is some tadpole monster, but the one on the left is a fairy dragon maybe? Cool shit regardless.
Haha idk, I really need to start putting some concepts behing the things I draw. I usually just put the pencil to the page and let it go from there. In my head the thing on the left is also some sort of aquatic creature. I was kind of thinking about axolotls but it didn't really translate into the drawing.

Axolotls makes sense, but it seriouslly gives me Brightwing vibes.

This is super creepy and fascinating at the same time. I can't look away yet it disguts me (the oil, melting ends gives me strange shiver)

I having a very strong reacting seeing this, I can't point why or even what it could remind me of. Good job nonetheless, its really good

what artist canvas sizes do you use to easily crop so you can share socially? I think twitter/facebook et all are fucking my art with resizing which is probably at least my fault for bad ratios

Square ratio always works well. I have a 2048x2048 @600 dpi that I use a lot for sketching and whatnot

The rest I cater to printed work so I usually have a 10x15, 8 1/1 x 11 or something similar ish saved up that I use. Otherwise I work on a 16:9 ratio for mockups since thats just widescreen format and its adaptable enough.

Honestly though, I typed all that and I still just kinda wing it

Working with a new tablet and art program resulting in this fun little image based off one of my former Inktober pieces from last year. Going to be turning this into a print for a convention I'll be at in early March. My goal is to get better at rendering and posing for the year.

Dude, these are fucking sick. Very eerie and satisfyingly alien aesthetic.

What was your inspiration for these designs?
Thanks! My favorite part of Metroid is the way it makes you feel connected with the environment, so I mainly wanted to reflect that Samus is connected to the alien environment in an intimate way. In terms of specific visuals I was very inspired by Richard Schmid who makes really beautiful flower paintings

Some stuff from my sketchbook

Lovely linework! What kind of sketchbook is this? I've never seen a sketchbook with perforations in this size.

______________

Lately I've switched to Copic markers on toned Strathmore paper to help learn value. I think it helps, but I wish I could do the blending transitions more smoothly. Please help!

thanks! it's a moleskine, but it's not one that's marketed for drawing. it was part of a 3 pack of the plain cashier's notebook, altogether like the same price as one of the art notebooks, and the quality of the paper is still pretty good imo. It's 5.5" by 8" or something like that.

regarding your post, i've never used copics, but i would recommend mapping out the lighter areas of your drawing before using the markers, and fill in the areas around there first. your forms are looking pretty good, but there are no highlights on any of the skulls, so you're losing out on some dimension. Hopefully someone can give you some tips for the markers, but I would recommend just screwing around and trying to blend them, no need to actually draw anything, but it could help familiarize you with the tools to just make a block of gray and try to blend it with another block of gray. sort of like a pencil value scale.[/QUOTE]

One Piece is approaching 900 chapters, I was going to do this for the 1000th chapter but I dont feel like waiting that long. I also was going to draw the fake straw hat crew instead of a genderbend but fake heavy set Luffy takes up more room than I like...

So many talented people... I kinda hate myself now.

Does anyone have recommendations on free Android apps? I've been using Sketchbook, but the 3 layer limit can make things difficult.

Hey guys, any suggestions on where to look for info about making pixel character art/animation? Something akin to Symphony of the Night preferably.

Also, one of my latest things:

Making a comic, but I wouldn't mind it being a game-prequel, haha.

Boat study I did on twitch

You're doing a good job with the brushwork IMO. The sky also looks great and I have few if any critiques there. If you want to go in a less abstract direction, I recommend putting color theory into action a bit more (the beach for example- depending on the lighting maybe it appears to be mostly shades of one color, but more likely it is several and with more dynamic chroma. I find it helps to look for at least 6-10 colors to use when painting any object from photo or life. The way light and shadow react to everything is complicated and make this a more accurate way to portray stuff as our eyes see them. Also, the boat has some nice stylization going on but looks a bit flat. Keep in mind any sunlight that might be illuminating, reflected or refracted on the front and top of the bow.

My drawing I did today. Honestly pretty awful. I've gotten better at coloring but character postures are always so stiff and poses undynamic, not to mention same faces and lack of variety of outfits and hairs.
