Very nice shots. Bar some low res sign textures, its looking really nice. I'd love to see what Yakuza 3 looks like with that emu.
Not sure you'd get an improvement - pre rendered cutscenes don't look good blown up in better resolutions - Yakuza 1 and 2 emulated look really sharp bar the FMV's which don't upres quite so well because they are pre rendered video files from what I understand. I assume it'd be similar for the later games as well? Now the main in game graphics of Yakuza 5 however... they'd look wonderful upresed for sure.I can't even begin to imagine how Gawdlike those yakuza 5 cutscenes would look rendered at that resolution.
yeah its worst when you see a spoiler while searching for tips on yakuza gamesgreat, devilleon7 got the english yakuza 6 ver. now I have to use a modded chrome to navigate youtube because he already begun spoiling the game 2 MONTHS before release. fuck that guy.
I had that back when I was playing the Japanese version of 6. Thought I spoiled the final boss for myself thanks to a track listing on the yakuza 6 OST. Thankfully it was incorrect, else I'd have been rather annoyed.yeah its worst when you see a spoiler while searching for tips on yakuza games
Wait, the cutscenes in Yakuza 5 were pre-rendered!? I could've sworn they were in-game, just like Yakuza 0's.Not sure you'd get an improvement - pre rendered cutscenes don't look good blown up in better resolutions - Yakuza 1 and 2 emulated look really sharp bar the FMV's which don't upres quite so well because they are pre rendered video files from what I understand. 0 has quite a few prerenders as well, iirc.Wait, the cutscenes in Yakuza 5 were pre-rendered!? I could've sworn they were in-game, just like Yakuza 0's.
To be fair, it's a lot less noticable in 0, Ishin, and K because they used 1080p prerenders in the PS4 versions of the games.

I believe she's a newcomer. Also hey does anyone know who Oryo is relative to the rest of the series? I recognize her I think but can't place her.
Didn't really pay attention to the credits but I noticed Nagoshi didn't direct it. Did he have any creative input at all or is he entirely dedicated to Hokuto?
Dude I came in with zero Japanese and am having a blast with the game. At first I was having a rough time, but after a while things started to click and while it's certainly different than playing it in English would be and you do miss quite a lot in terms of characterization you kinda get to the point you can read into the scene at get things they're trying to convey just with the base plot info provided in the guide plus the acting and inflection of the characters. Just by immersion and playing around with machine translating while playing I've already picked up some hiragana and have started to be able to make out some words here and there. Just to be clear: I'm still missing the vast majority of shit, like 99.9%, but just having those few words start to give context to scenes and lines of dialog make a world of difference. If you have even a basic level of japanese I'd say totally go for the game as the guide plus what you know will easily make the game understandable. Plus, it's a fucking fantastic game with imo the best gameplay in the series. Defo go for it man, I doubt you'll be disappointed!I should import Ishin as well later this year. Always wanted to, but was too afraid that I wouldn't get too far with my current Japanese skills. Thanks for your impressions, pa22word. You rekindled my need for the game, haha.
Ishin chapter 9 was some amazing shit.
Drunken brawl in the street between Goda, Kiryu, and Akiyama; wandering the streets hammered and kicking the shit out of anyone dumb enough to mess with the three of them; awesome Hanna cameo with fun interplay between Akiyama and her; Goda, after kicking the shit out of people hurting a stray, adopting the dog and it following you around the whole chapter; Kiryu taking the 'boys out for booze and chow after beating their asses, and then gloriously passing out in the middle of a restaurant and needing to be carted home by Goda and Akiyama. This all followed by some really nice heart to heart down time between Oryo and Kiryu makes this whole chapter a pacing masterpiece in an otherwise balls to the wall action packed experience. Love the hell out of this game, easily top 10 of the gen for me thus far.
Also hey does anyone know who Oryo is relative to the rest of the series? I recognize her I think but can't place her.
oh. man the thing is, I just couldn't bring myself to care about any of the protagonists. 4 is too much (not counting Haruka, although I understand her chapters didn't have the best content either) 3 I guess would be okay; it was cool playing as Kiryu & Majima in Yakuza 0, if they did a game with one more that would've been cool but 4 was too much imo. Although I know I'm in the minority here
Nagoshi never directed a Yakuza game. He produces it (with others even)
Yeah there is. Should have been out last week if not for the game delay :( It'll be up around March 1st (which is the Thursday before the full game is out, so I'm guessing this is when the demo drops). Guessing it'll be the tutorial/first level of the game, can't wait :)
Didn't realise some translated cutscenes for Ishin are on YT.
How does the game compare to most of the mainline titles in terms of content?
Vita is insanely niche these days. I wish it would happen, but Sega wouldn't have spent the time to do so. Pity :(On the topic of Ishin, how much content did the Vita app have?I think there was another one for Yakuza Zero.I wonder why they didn't localize it, when the game was released in the West.
Thanks for the detailed response. That's a substantial amount of content for a free app.The current situation of the Vita is a reasonable explanation, but it would have been nice if they had localized the Y0 app (although from what you're saying, it's not as good as the Ishin one).Sega released (digitally) the Vita version of Valkyria Revolution, although the localization was already done for the home console versions. It seems that both apps are still available to download.Vita is insanely niche these days. I wish it would happen, but Sega wouldn't have spent the time to do so. Pity :(
Anyway, the Ishin app is by far the better of the two apps for the Vita. It had:
Battle Dungeon - You could play the first few stages and I think earn XP, materials etc. for the main game. Seeing as how important this was for 100% completion this was great. Plus having any type of Yakuza gameplay on the go for the Vita was great. Frame rate/controls wise it felt a bit laggy, maybe because I was used to 60FPS gameplay from the PS4, but I swear it wasn't quite as snappy as it usually was. Graphically I seem to recall it being ok for the platform. Not like the areas you explored were all that amazing graphically to begin with!
It also had a few different gambling mini games. Of these the only one I played for any length of time was Mahjong. Which is basically Yakuza Mahjong on the go. This was massive for me, as I love how Mahjong in Yakuza plays - even actual Vita Mahjong games don't feel quite so good gameplay wises by comparison. It was absolutely an awesome inclusion for me.
The 0 app wasn't as good - they paywalled most of the stuff like Mahjong and two arcade games (one was Columns, the other was a cool arcade only game that slips my mind, port was supposed to be pretty great). Slot machines were also included but they weren't really all that fun for long periods of time. 0 app also had the fighting arena to play (early tourneys) and honestly it wasn't great. Gameplay wise its better than Ishin, probably because its one on one battles but your woefully under levelled for these fights with few heat moves (and only two fighting styles for each character) so its actually a real uphill struggle to win I found. I didn't touch the arena until late in the game for pretty much this reason - you need to be levelled up way higher to fully enjoy the arena (else you'll have next to no moves/heat moves to use against the enemies).

Also how can you say no to a game that has this:
Worth noting though that the price has been creeping upwards on it for some time now. I had been watching it casually since I beat 0 in August, and then it was like 30$ or so. I finally bought it when I did just because at the 42$ I got it for I didn't see it ever moving lower than that again. I didnt plan on starting it until 6 got delayed tho lol >.<Music to my ears! Thanks a lot for your impressions! That really reassures that I should definitely finally grab it. I will play it after Yakuza 6, because I think Kiwami 2 (in English) is still far away (end of 2018 at the earliest I think). Also that kimono, haha. Amazing!

Isnt it cheaper to buy from JP PSN with playasia cards than it is to import?Just started chapter 13 in Ishin and man this game just went into overdrive. Plot threads all starting to untangle themselves, and tons of amazing fights. The fights with Daigo (the music in that fight....*drools*) and Nishikiyama was super hype, and the ending of chapter 12 in general was just awesome with a ton of really great setpiece moments.
My only downer is I basically ruined the game for myself by getting that blasted sword lol >.< I killed diago in a little over a minute, which is a shame because I was rocking out to the music and I doubt I even get to listen to a quarter of the track ;.; That entire Daigo level in general was one of the better Yakuza levels I can remember, just great shit from start to finish.
When Majima just says fuck it and blows up the door with a cannon after the plan was to sneak in I about died laughing.
Also holy shit at Kiryu just straight up killing Nishikiyama o.o
Kondo's last scene was really awesome as well.
Just can't get enough of this game, it's too good to put down! Already at 50+ hours in and still itching for more.
EDIT: FUCK I just discovered Salty Yen's YT Channel with the full cutscene translations holy fuck this would have made the game so much more awesome ;_____;
I now remember shadowman mentioning it, but I must have let it slip my mind at some point. Geez I feel like a total moron now sitting here machine translating things the guide missed >.<
With this set of vids existing I totally recommend everyone go out and buy the game. Everything else the guide covers well enough for it not to matter, and with these giving you full dialog for the story it's totally worth it to import it 100%. Game is too awesome to ignore if you're a Y fan otherwise.
dunno, really.Isnt it cheaper to buy from JP PSN with playasia cards than it is to import?

kinda annoying they pull another Yakuza 5 and just dump the bad guy in in literally the last 5 mins of the game
Those were very useful, thanks! Does one of you guys know if Akiyama's code has been released already? And be warned, if you use those codes, the Clan Creator storyline will get a lot easier!
Its got plenty of content. I'm going off my memory (so things will be missed) but I remember doing the following:
Gambling (Koi Koi etc.), lots of Mahjong and I'm fairly certain Shogi was still in.
Karaoke (with some great songs with Seijima and Majima)
Dancing (not quite disco dancing, but still fairly addictive and challenging - especially the last couple of songs on the hardest difficulty)
Training masters for all styles - Komaki for hand to hand fighting etc. used to learn new moves
Heavy focus on modding and getting materials due to the nature of the combat in the game (new swords, staffs, guns, cannons!)
Battle Dungeon - addictive mini missions where you fight tons of enemies and then a boss. Starts off easy and eventually gets insanely tough!
One hostess to romance - and you have 2? mini games to play against her - strip rock/paper/scissors and a pretty tricky (not to mention flat out weird) vertical shoot em up mini game.
Another Drama storyline where you help Haruka, which also involves several other mini games (such as cooking)
The fighting arena
Baseball - only this time your slicing cannonballs in half with a sword!
Chicken racing (actually not as good as it was in 5 - your just betting, no breeding this time).
Fairly certain I'm forgetting a ton of mini games, but these are the ones that left the biggest impression on me. Also in are the standard side stories, hidden boss etc. Also included for the firsts time were friendship quests an completion lists - but the problem with these two last things were that they were both insanely grindy. It took forever to complete them and modding all the weapons. 100%ing this game is no joke, its fairly tough (especially with the dancing and hostess shmup mini game). It could definitely have done being a bit shorter to clear some of the friend quests (as it takes forever for their bars to fill up) and some of the completion request requirements just have you do the most mind numbing things for far too long (speak to 100+ cats/dogs/chickens). Thankfully Yakuza 0 came along and fixed both of these issues.
Those were very useful, thanks! Does one of you guys know if Akiyama's code has been released already? And be warned, if you use those codes, the Clan Creator storyline will get a lot easier!
Aside from the story and side stories (which a written guide already exists for) the rest requires little to no Japanese knowledge to clear so I'd still suggest giving it a shot if you can. I doubt it'll ever get an English release and it'd be a shame to skip such a great game entirely. It consist of more than I expected. I feel I would be missing out on quite a bit due to my lack of Japanese, despite the guides.
