I am blown away! This is a huge deal for me personally, and I am just really shocked that it actually happened.

I was gonna pass on Doom (or any non-gyro shooter) but now this is a 100% guaranteed purchase for me.

If anyone is reading this; thank you!

Yup this is game changing, I bought the game launch day but I haven't got around to playing this. Knowing this came out I'm going to have to make a point to play it soon enough/

It would be great if they noticed an appreciable uptick in sales or people playing (can this be tracked on Switch by publishers/Nintendo?) after this patch.

Going by this thread, they're at least gonna make a few sales :)

They should get this news out there somehow though. This shouldn't be hidden!

Front page of the eshop,
"DOOM NOW HAS GYRO!".

this game is really good

motion aiming can be disorienting though because they allow movement on both axes with the stick. I'd frequently lose my home position with how I was holding the controller due to how fast paced the game is and to get everything right again I'd have to just move the controller back causing some disorienting camera shifts then fix it with the sticks. kind of hard to keep everything in line when I'm reacting quickly to so many things. it's still a god send though, I'd never have been able to play this with just the stick.

damn good game though

Just tried the latest patch. After having redone my control sensitivity settings, gyro aiming is a game changer.

I was day one for this game then found out motion control aiming was taken out. Now I can finally buy it.

How are the load times on Switch?

They're great.

When first loading your game though, it takes what feels like about 30 seconds.

I honestly love this game on Switch. The graphics and atmosphere are amazing, the gameplay is entertaining and chaotic. I love that I need to rip and tear to survive.

Doom and Rime got crazy patch improvements this week, what's going on, devs are finally ironing out Switch's hardware? I wonder what game is next.

This needs to be on PS4 as well. And I hope this doesn't count as port begging as it's a controller feature being used in one platform but not another.

Really want to get it but couldn't justify the other versions are dirt cheap while the Switch is at full price. Will get when it gets cheap later on.

I don't think anyone would begrudge you that, because it's absolutely true. A Dualshock can do this and for some reason Sony's shooters never do, it's mind boggling that the option isn't even there most times.

Gonna give my Switch copy another run to see how the changes feel, gyro aiming is great.

I was holding off on a price cut, but they deserve a sale for this. Will pick it up as soon as I can.

Tried it right now and it feels really good.

there is a noticeable bump in resolution in undocked mode. Everything is sharper and the details are better visible.

Framerate is more stable too. Played through a part where I noticed frame drops before and it was absolutely smooth after the patch.

I never tried gyro before but I kind of like it. Will play a little more later...

Good job devs. Patch is absolutely a improvement and makes the game even better.

Well damn I'll have to pick this up at some point now. Already had it on PS4 but gyro is a game changer. Absolutely love it in Splatoon.

Different expectations for different platforms. I have not seen anyone demanding motion controls before for Doom on PS4, the wide audience is not expecting it. Nintendo also actively encourages motion controls, I think Sony got burnt after the whole Lair debacle and is treating it as an option, not a key feature.

I assume gyro controls are fairly unusable in handheld mode, right?
Haven't played it in DOOM, but assuming that the implementation is similar to BOTW, handheld mode works really well. You use it for fine aiming, to move the center of your screen onto a demon. Bigger camera movements are done by the right stick, so you're only making small motions with your Switch. My experience with BOTW is it works really well.

This is what I wanted from the start and I was so disappointed that it didn't have motion controls since that was the one condition I have. After Splatoon, I will never play any shooter with duel controls again, especially since I sucked with DS. Now I will definition get this game.....as soon as I burn myself out with Dragon Quest Builders.

Damn, now I wished I bought DOOM went it was $38 on the Eshop.

Yeah, it's running a fair bit sharper in handheld mode now. Better viewing distance especially.

I tried matching a screenshot I took before the patch. Twitter kinda compressed them to death, but the difference is still pretty noticeable.

After:

Switch compression + Twitter compression is not really great for visual comparisons.

This bodes well for wolfenstein 2. Maybe the gyro / some of the handheld performance boosts are from extra time spent working with the engine on that - they've now just added them into Doom.

Previously it felt like a guaranteed disaster since the game is far more demanding than Doom, with frequent performance dips, but putting more work here optimising makes me merely "highly concerned" instead :P
