Sooo.. Stop watching? Simple solution.

Im trynna come in here to discuss the show and all I see are people complaining about hands on a banner.

I thought Season 8 has been great thus far :)

Fuck Carl.
It's terrible now. It was much better before, it has potential to get better again. Or do you think people just complain and hate on stuff for no reason?

this irked me, i really don't like misleading people like this.

been saying in interviews and to fans (got clearance to say specifically this on social media back before the episode came out) that the bite is fatal. there is more to this story to be played out, but that story will be resolved in 809.

hope that helps clear things up for you guys.

I'm honestly about to delete the show from my DVR at this point. Aside from the decision to kill Carl itself being terrible, Kirkman is trying to play around with people after the last episode's ending?

Come on. This is so dumb.

If nothing else, this Carl situation shows how much the kid grew on people considering how upset people are the decision to kill him.

I thought this was going to return next week, but I guess I was wrong. Oh well. They could wait another four months and I wouldn't care much. Just going to keep watching it because I have been.

It's been pretty bad lately.

I don't really see how killing Carl is inherently a bad decision. Show Carl barely resembles Comic Carl and literally everyone hated him, or liked to hate on him, since the show began. Like, it might end up being a bad move - or - it might be exactly what the show needs.

Rick is an awful leader. Terrible planning. He just wings everything.

Maybe with the new showrunner, we'll see why the other characters still follow him.

Are they going to keep pretending that there's a point to the garbage people under this new showrunner?

I've only seen through episode 2 of season 8 and the show seems like it is just a silly mess at this point. Big battles have gone on for the last 3 episodes with 0 deaths of consequence on either side (not counting the one person who died before the battle in S7E16), they all have unlimited ammo now and then apparently another season 1 character has made his way to northern Virginia and joined Negan's army.

The main problem with the show for the last few of seasons is that there are TOO MANY CHARACTERS, too many stories, too many episodes and too little focus. I'd like to see a mass kill off of most of the cast but honestly that would be near impossible to do (they always seem to have an episode focusing on a character before they die) and I'm sure a ton of people would complain. They should just stick a fork in this show: it's done. But what will likely happen is that they will continue down the path of being a soap opera with guns and zombies until ratings peter out and it gets cancelled.

I always find it hilarious people say this show needs to end when its still like at the top of cable TV ratings. It is no where close to being canceled.

Even if it continues to dip I'm sure it will keep going until they feel like it's just not comfortably profitable anymore.

Who knows how many seasons in that will be..

Yep, it's still getting around 8 million live views an episode. And like every show these days the live+3 and live+7 numbers show a lot of people don't watch live. Episode 8 had like 7.8 in live views but around 12 million or so in the live+7.
Why would they cancel a show that's still pulling in that many people in it's 8th season. Not to mention the comic is still going strong and they have plenty of material they can still adapt.

Is the show following the comics closely in that it has become a human vs human drama with a giant cast rather than the more gritty, survival based stories from the beginning?

Oh of course. Changes need to be made. But this show isn't ending before like Season 12.

Eh, I think 4 more seasons would be pushing it. Eventually the veteran cast will grow tired and want out. Danai's career might be takin off due to Black Panther too and I'm sure she doesn't want to be around for much longer. Season 10/11 would make sense as a final season if they didn't want to overextend, but technically the show could go to 15 seasons if it wanted to.

Oh come on. I don't like how these past two seasons have gone but the show is far from unsalvageable.

The first two seasons of fear were pretty bad but season 3 was good.

The only thing I can think of to salvage the show is to do a soft reboot, kill off most of the main cast, put them back into survival mode and write some interesting stories and/or focus on the characters more. Or maybe that's what Fear the Walking Dead is supposed to be?

I dropped the show, so I was kinda curious how the concensus is on the current season and Carl is dead? Well damn.

But then I realize comic Carl is alive and all is good.

Even though his dad is a massive cunt and his character is not the best on the show, Chandler comes off as a cool dude. Hope he finds work outside TWD.

I also noticed that Negan and Rick balance each other out. Negan always leans back when he talks and Rick always leans forward when he talks.

Which is literally what the show has been since the first season.

I always find it hilarious people say this show needs to end when its still like at the top of cable TV ratings. It is no where close to being canceled.

It's still the #1 show on TV in 18-49.

Across the entire industry, live ratings (which are only a small part of the picture) are on a downward trend and have been for years. The Walking Dead's massive season-to-season growth was highly unusual and nearly unprecedented.

I binge watched this whole show in the span of 2 weeks, now I am all caught up. Liked most of it, but honestly Negan drags the show down so damn much, he's uninteresting, he monologues all the damn time, those first few episodes of season 7 dragged so much.

That chart is all sorts of fucked up lol
would like to see it compared to others. I've seen the GoT one and that's grander than grand.
Breaking Bad's final season was insanity.

The quality between the very first episode of the series and where we're at now is so drastic, you'd think you were watching a completely different show.

Too bad they didn't have more competent hands on it throughout its seasons. The comic has provided decent to excellent content (generally very good); that potential has been monumentally squandered.

Hopefully the Carl stuff jump-starts character development/interactions and breathes some (much needed) new life into the dynamics of the group.

I dunno what they're gunna do with Negan to make him different than he's been though.

Yep. The "All Out War" arc and the build-up to it should have been a high point of the series. Instead, it's been the lowest point, marred by awful pacing, confusing plot advancement, ridiculous characterization, and often incomprehensible set piece battles. Seriously- the gun battles in the first 8 episodes of this season were terribly shot and constructed, and almost impossible to follow. It's like they just handed out guns, grabbed a couple cameras and got random shots of folks shooting and figured they'd make it work in the edit.

http://variety.com/2018/tv/news/waling-dead-lauren-cohan-abc-pilot-whiskey-cavalier-1202705668/

"The Walking Dead" star Lauren Cohan has booked the lead role in the ABC drama pilot "Whiskey Cavalier," Variety has confirmed.

Cohan does not currently have a contract in place to return for "The Walking Dead's" upcoming ninth season and has been in negotiations with AMC for months over her potential return to the zombie apocalypse series. Cohan has been on the AMC show since its second season. Sources say the actress has fielded multiple offers for lead roles this pilot season. If "Whiskey Cavalier" moves forward, it is possible Cohan could return to "The Walking Dead" on a recurring basis in Season 9 or simply leave the show entirely.

Welp.

Welp what? It says that her deal will still allow her to recur on The Walking Dead because the two shows' production schedules don't overlap - most likely the reason she chose 'Whiskey Cavalier' over the half-dozen other shows that she was being offered. There's also a very good chance that 'Whiskey Cavalier' doesn't even get picked up to series.

What? No it doesn't.

If "Whiskey Cavalier" moves forward, it is possible Cohan could return to "The Walking Dead" on a recurring basis in Season 9 or simply leave the show entirely.

It says nothing about her deal and specifically says she could stay or leave entirely. It means there is the possibility that she could do both.

At this point I just assume the final episode of the show 5 years from now will have everyone dead except Rick and Daryl.
They'll mow down a thousand or so walkers each in the last episode, say their farewells and then drive off in separate directions while the credits roll.

I hear her deal allows the actress potentially to return to The Walking Dead, reprising her fan-favorite role as Maggie on a recurring basis should she is able to make a new pact with AMC. I hear there are no current negotiations with the cable network, but the production schedules of the zombie drama would not interfere with her duties on Whiskey Cavalier if the pilot is picked up to series.

That's a different article. You quoted my post and said the article I linked said that. :P

I wasn't paying attention to your source because I just assumed you were using Deadline like a normal person -__-

Either way, even that Deadline quote is still a giant "we'll see."

If her show gets picked up, let's be real, her time will be coming to an end on TWD.

Other actors have balanced TWD with other projects though. They could easily do a couple of Maggie centric episodes per season and her screen time probably wouldn't decrease all that much given how many characters they're already juggling.
