You guys got one chance to finally put me on the Black metal train. Gimme your best bands, but I want good riffs and shit that doesn't sound like it was recorded in a toilet through a early 2000s Nokia phone.

I present: Lord Belial

Can we get the grammatical error in the thread title fixed? We're metalheads, not savages!

Cobalt's Gin is one of my favourite modern black metal albums:

This is some good shit right here.

I'm gonna go a little different than some of the rest and recommend an up and coming USBM band

I actually first listened to this Dissection album last month in an effort to start listening to older great bands which I had either not heard of or have failed to check out. Dissection - Storm of the Light's Bane is incredible and instantly made me a fan.

Bathory - BFD is one of my favorite albums ever and since some have started sharing their jackets/vests, here is my work in progress which features BFD.

My recommendation for Grindcore is Nasum - Helvete

Storm of the Light's Bane is an amazing album. For me, it's tied with Reinkaos. I know it's not to everyone's liking since it is such a departure from their earlier records but Damn those riffs are tasty.

You should check out Carach Angren. Not trve cvlt, but instead the lyrics center around horror stories. And the singer really does tell stories, they basically fit short stories into their songs lyrics wise. Interesting listen definitely. Chaotic and theatrical.

I bought 2 RUDE albums on their bandcamp page only to find out they were actually half albums and if you want the full album you have to buy it not on RUDE's bandcamp page, but their label's bandcamp page. I've run into bands that sell some stuff on their own page, usually LPs or demos they did prior to signing, with the rest of the stuff on their label's bandcamp page. But I've never seen this, where the band has their own page that sells fractions of the album. So yeah anyways I spent $20 on like 6 songs and I'm a bit miffed.

Just wanted to follow up to let you know that there is some great stuff in here. I liked Harlott and Prayers of Sanity especially. But my dude, Exarsis is some straight up anti-semitic shit.

I really love the sound Exarsis brings, really only ones doing that artillery/toxik imitation right, whatever shock value they are reaching for here on their new release is not any further removed from a lot of Japanese thrash bands who did the whole "nazi" motif or whatever political stance Havok likes to shout in their terrible offerings

Don't get me wrong. Musically, it's probably one of my favorites out of the pile. Their artwork just left a very bad aftertaste.

Just some thoughts on some new stuff I've been listening to lately...

Just started listening through Polaris' debut LP, 'The Mortal Coil' and I am digging the hell out of it. Right from the start it packs an absolute punch and keeps up the intensity all the way through.

Also been really digging the new single 'Apollo' by Crystal Lake. The vocalist is so good, and the song is so catchy (Fuck, that chorus). Definitely gonna check out their older material.

It's not metal, but Jesse Cash's (ERRA) side project, Ghost Atlas is releasing some really great stuff as well! I think a new song was supposed to drop either tonight or tomorrow.

Kardashev's new album The Almanac is what I expect out of them at this point: really solid music. A little disappointed though, as I feel their last album was a bit better.

And finally, The Contortionist. Clairvoyant is SO GOOD. I was about to list all the best tracks but then I realized I would just be typing out the entire tracklist.

Harakiri For The Sky have released a song from their new album Arson:

They've only been on the scene for a few years but I've pretty much fallen in love with what I've heard. The internet describes them as post-metal but I'd say there's a big melodeath influence in there as well.

Their earlier albums are on Bandcamp:
III: Trauma
Aokigahara

I don't know what I expected but that is not it. :P

Excellent album.

I've noticed a severe lack of some Death Metal so here's a little recommendation from me:

Gigan is a Kaiju (Japanese Giant Monster) best known for battling Godzilla.

A couple of Finnish death metal bands:

Carnalation aggressive and fast really like these guys.

Rifftera more melodic death in the veins of Soil work, even features Björn "speed" Strid on this track.

Black metal is my primary genre and Nagelfar is (although they split-up) my favourite band in the genre. Not to be confused with Naglfar which is a Swedish melodic black metal band, Nagelfar is a band from my home country Germany, their names are spelled differently.

They released three full albums, Hünengrab im Herbst (1997), Srontgorrth (1999), and Virus West (2001).

To this day I still think they are the best black metal band to have emerged (yeah yeah I love Bathory's stuff too). Black metal is an extreme genre and when it clicks its when you *get* its atmosphere or "soundscape". It's a genre most people can't stand but I fucking love it so much lol, it was my gateway into metal.

My favourite album of theirs is their second album, Srontgorrth (although a lot feel their last album Virus West is the best). My favourite track is "Kapitel drei, der Herbst: Endzeit" on this album (Srontgorrth), which I made the embed to automatically start playing from. Also the sound quality is much better on other platforms like Bandcamp than these YouTube rips.

For anyone interested in a metal discord, we have an M-A one now (quote for the invite link). It wasn't made by me but I'm an admin there of course. Note, this isn't any kind of "official MetalERA discord"; it has 0% to do with ERA, it's just my personal site's Discord that I think could be of interest to people here (much like our IRC channel was, we might end up fully replacing it with Discord eventually -- we'll see) since I know many of you use M-A or are familiar with it. It's brand new and so has little activity yet xD, but yeah, feel free to join if you want.

The Beast in Black album is awesome.

I only listened a bit of it but I am liking what I'm hearing!

Seems like Beast in Black has stopped touring with W.A.S.P. citing that "they didn't get the treatment that they were guaranteed". There are only Finnish sources at the moment but this is what Anton Kabanen had to say about it "None of the things promised to us in advance were honored. We also lost our right for a soundcheck and to top it all, we were blackmailed for money just so we could play." Apparently these demands and restrictions were put on by the headliner, W.A.S.P. Can't say I'm too surprised, W.A.S.P. isn't the easiest band to tour with and Blackie Lawless is known to be a gigantic dick. Props to Beast in Black for not submitting to bullshit like that though.

Excellent post. Nagelfar is one of my favourite bands and i also prefer Srontgorrth to Virus West. But will also add this, it's not a band that you listen 2 or 3 times and you immedietly like it, no, they have a unique style that must grow on the listener.
While i consider one the best bands to appear on the genre, to this day i still cannot stand and listen to their older material (demos) recently re-release by the way.

Went to a show tonight. Missed almost all of Artificial Brain because the line getting in was so slow, and Will Smith wasn't even doing vocals (they had some other dude filling in). Full of Hell was good as usual and apparently they have a new (live only?) member doing just electronics/backing vocals. I didn't stay for Revocation or Cattle Decapitation because I'm not really into them, so it was nice to get home at a reasonable hour.
