24 player custom games?

is the audience still there?

last time i tried to play wc3 custom games was last year, where I was faced with nothing but bots upon endless bots.

It doesn't help that many of the most classic wc3 custom games (including my own) were destroyed by the space bug patch.

Maybe remaster will be announced at the event itself? Nice to see the classic games team still hard at work.

Well, it is something...

I feel that after the failure of Project Titan, Blizzard has become rather unambitious.

EDIT: After some introspection, I cannot help but feel disappointed.

Okay then? Would have taken a remaster but continued support for the game isn't too shabby I guess. I just want the community to be alive enough for Sheep Tag to become popular again.

Hyped for this patch. 24 player custom games are going to be madness. If you guys are interested, there is still an active Warcraft 3 community over at hiveworkshop.com.

Can Titan still be considered a failure even after how incredibly huge Overwatch became, with that game spawning in the ashes of Titan?

From their perspective? No. They turned that into money quite well. But I feel that Project Titan had an amibition behind it that Overwatch doesn't. But that might be subjective. I recognise the effort that went into Overwatch, don't misunderstand. But it feels not as "grand" of a project than World of WarCraft did or WarCraft III.

Having a world-wide invitational tournament just to celebrate a new Warcraft3 patch seems like a lot of effort for very small gains. Guess I'll hope that this is only supposed to bring attenation to something bigger.

Maybe this a ruse to make us think they are playing WC3 but really they will announce the remake at Blizzcon

Widescreen patch is nice, would be a lot cooler to get a high res texture pack though.

Guys the rumour was a big WC3 announcement would come at the end of the month, and they've just announced a patch (as they did with SC before the remaster) and a huge competitive event with all the WC3 stars (as they also did with SC before the remaster). It's following the exact same pattern. A remaster is like 99% certain to be announced at the event.

I'm skeptical. Due to job postings targeting a Diablo 2 remaster, I always assumed that would be next. Maybe they've been working on these remasters longer than I assume though.

Regardless I'm hoping they release a physical edition like they did with SCR.

They not bring the best players of the world to a suprise event to announce widescreen support...
There will be more...

as great as WC3 was. Not really interested in a remaster, would much prefer warcraft 4 with the same custom map support.

I don't think this rules out the remaster. Hell they could very well announce said remaster during grand finals or something.

Meh, still holding out hope for a Remaster. Blizz needs to do that for their whole back catalog.

I agree that this doesn't rule out a more robust remaster, but I'm still certainly not unhappy that I'll be able to replay the campaign for the first time in like a decade on modern monitor resolutions without buying a remaster.

On one hand, I'm happy that Blizzard is providing support to the game.

On the other hand, I kinda wish they gave it the Starcraft Remaster treatment and made the original free.

God I hope they nerf the ever living balls out of Human's gimmicky bullshit. Towers, and mech specifically, MAYBE Militia creeping/fast expo.

widescreen support is enough. i don't think wc3 needs an HD treatment. the fact that they're patching legacy games is awesome--love blizz as a company so much

Widescreen support, integration into the modern Battle.net, and full compatibility with current operating systems (i.e. not the current situation where the software itself functions on Intel-era macOS/OS X, but there isn't a working installer) were pretty much all I was asking for. It's nice that the first of these has finally been addressed after years of expectation. The models and art themselves have aged and scaled to modern resolutions rather well, so while I'd appreciate a remaster down the road I don't feel any particular urgency for it to happen. And even then, I wouldn't expect much: a fresh pass on the rendering/scaling of the pre-rendered cinematics (as in SC:R), revised interstitials to bring the map artwork in line with the post-WoW "canon", but not a whole lot else to justify the "base game is free, fresh coat of paint is $15" model SC:R pursued. We'll probably get that eventually, just to bring in revenue and new players, but realistically I don't see how much it will have to offer—whereas sprite-based titles like D2 are in far more urgent need of artistic attention from the classics/remasters team when it comes to scaling old games up to HD.

If you're interested enough in revisiting the game to be begging to pay for a remaster, I don't see why you're not already playing WC3 now after the new patch. You don't need to pay for it twice, either, as registered CD keys from the original release of WC3/TFT are still good on Battle.net for flagging your account as eligible for digital downloads. Widescreen and support for modern resolutions were the biggest hurdle the game needed to clear in terms of aging decently. That's what I was waiting on myself, as I've been wanting to get back to WC3 multiplayer and learn it properly (even at a casual level) now that I have far more RTS experience on my belt than I did 15 years ago.

The improvements to UMS, meanwhile, are going above and beyond. Certain party games and co-op TDs would be absolutely crazy if scaled up to larger maps and 24 players.

I have no belief that it will actually happen, but I would still love for some type of remaster/re-release that incorporated all 3 Warcraft RTS games into a single engine. I know there would be issues since especially the first game is very primitive by current standards, but I feel like it's just such a shame to leave Warcraft 2 in the past without any type of version that is fully functional on modern computers. A Starcraft-style remaster where they kept the art style but re-drew the sprites for modern resolutions would be amazing, but that seems like the least likely possibility.

Warcraft 3 CCU in China was still quite high a few years ago on LAN spoofing clients...
A free, modernized Warcraft 3 would be pretty huge, might usurp some major games there.

So with the new patch coming,is it safe to say that a remaster is out of the picture? Man..I would CRY if W4 will be announced.

Is original SC crossplay with SC remaster?

Probably sounds crazy but I love the look of wc3 as it is, hoping for an option to play with original look even on the remaster..

If an hyphotetical remaster happens, will all the custom maps created in this 15 years be compatible with it?

At some point it's time to move on and make a new game already after all the franchise has gotten was practically an MMO-spinoff (yeah I know, you could argue the RTS games are the spinoffs at this point) in decades.

Warcraft is first an MMO, then a card game and on the third position is a Facebook flash rts game for blizzard
