So I was looking over the Blade code and... it looks like it rolls integers to do the RNG on Blade pulls. Meaning probabilities come in multiples of 1/101 (rolls from 0-100). No matter what you do, KOS-MOS has a probability <1/101, meaning you can only get her by rolling a perfect 0 and having her be the only Blade in the pool. In other words, no matter what you do, your odds of finding her are the same. The only thing that improves your odds is getting more Rare Blades to reduce the competition in the pool (since the last decision is based on base probabilities and KOS-MOS is at the biggest disadvantage).

Basically, if the game rolls integers for RNG (basically every game does), then you can't influence KOS-MOS drop rate at all.

I've been running around leveling and trying to finish Ursula's quest before the patch drops. I decided to try out farming this Insectivore Malcolm guy for Legendary cores.

Jesus. I got 20 cores in like 5 minutes. Tora and Zeke make this easy mode. I was having trouble keeping Smash up with them until I switched out my pouch items, sweets OP.

Fighting a flying fish notorious monster thing on the the tiny area he agros you on, no real nicer place around to try and pull him too and even if there was he probably wouldn't follow that easily.... so I just fight him in that spot. After a long fight I win but all the drops just decide to fall down into the nothingness instead of where we're standing.

Sigh. :(

Gotta know how to work the chain attack system for that fight. The one-hit kill triggers at a specific health percentage, so you need to have enough elemental orbs on the boss for a chain attack to kill him before that point or you lose.

I still haven't finished this game. Looking at the datelined information, obviously my save is from the first or fifth slot, because I pulled Boreas and Godfrey early on, but I did get Vale and Floren pretty early too. Leaning toward five since I haven't gotten Adenine either. I've been farming rares through salvaging trying to get KOSMOS - including stacking elements as shown on YouTube. Hasn't made a bit of difference. I'm still missing KOSMOS, Adenine, and Perun. I'm tired of doing do, and just moving on. One of these days KOSMOS will be mine, but I really want to play some more of the game before the RNG makes me burn out. What surprises me the most is that I haven't even pulled Adenine yet, and she's supposed to be pretty common. Maybe Legendary's when farming superbosses will help ...

So last night I said "fuck it", and went on with the story. I'm in Chapter 8 now, I think?

Also, I don't know why everyone hates Ursula's affinity quest. I basically filled out the majority of affinity charts for all of my rare blades, and even finished two 4*'s for overdrives (for NG+) working through that. It sucks she isn't usable in your party for a lot of the game, but seriously, I should start finishing out charts pretty soon now, as I am almost to the World Tree. And she is pretty freaking amazing. Her, Mythra (OP as all get-out), and Herald are my favorites - especially in Chain attacks

I got Ursula super early. First rare blade for Nia in fact, and I did the first four affinity tiers during questing downtime, so I never had her "unusable" like so many say she is, and eventually around chapter 8/9 when I had three pages of long and involved quests to do, I started the grind for her last tier, and seeing as I work from home, I just had to press a few buttons every few minutes for a few days, so it was mostly automated.

That said, Adenine is meh, Perun is a great offensive blade in a game full of great offensive blades, and KOS-MOS is fantastic I lucked out in getting both Sheba and KOS-MOS on my Herald user one after the other in the same stretch of gameplay, but pure ether cannon build is wonderful.

KOS-MOS is a great blade, but from what I hear Poppi, Herald and Mythra are all stronger - with the latter sharing the same element.

I'd love to have her for the sake of having her, but I'm not sure I'd actually use her.*

*Give me KOS-MOS already!

Going to disagree with this. Adenine is great because her elemental weakness buff is incredible. Also that blade combo buff. Plus she has drop rate increase. She's not the best at healing, but she's an incredible blade for other reasons.

Perun on the other hand seems pretty meh to me. Her skills are focused on auto-attacks, but these never seemed helpful to me because the vast majority of damage is not done through auto-attacks.

Looks like my save is the first column. I got lucky with KOS-MOS though in that I got her shortly after getting Morag on the team.

I really want to have a main team of Rex, Zeke, and Morag but I really need Nia as a healer. Is there a good way to work around having a dedicated healer or getting Zeke to become a healer? I prefer not to manage healing with Rex myself.

Between Mythra and the Chapter 7 blade I never needed a main healer for the back half of the game. I occasionally gave Zeke and Morag one healer if I felt I needed it. Currently postgame and I only run one healer blade on Zeke and no healers on the other two.

Game's great! It's got its fair share of issues, but the game has so much passion and heart put into it that it's easy to set those issues aside. The main hangups I've seen are:
- Navigation can be rather obtuse (though we can always assist with that)
- Combat is slow if you don't fully grasp it (once you do the combat speeds up and becomes a lot more fun)
- Rare Blade drops are irritatingly rare (but they are not necessary unless you go for 100%)
- WE ARE... URSULA'S NEW GROOVE! AND WE'LL DO WHAT WE CAN! (can be skipped as of v1.2)
There's a whole lot of good that imo heavily outweighs the above so I definitely recommend giving it a chance.

Portable has not been much improved, but it honestly does look good on the Switch's handheld screen. But that's entirely dependent on the person - some people like me think it looks fine, others think it looks terrible.

The MyNintendo store listed XC2 posters that can be redeemed with gold coins.

I am sad now, because:
I have a Japanese account due to me getting the Japanese version of the game.
I have gold coins from purchasing the digital version that I can use to redeem them.
But I don't live in Japan so I can't have them deliver it to me. :(

I wish NA MyNintendo can start offering physical rewards...

Thanks for the heads up. They are actually redeemed with platinum coins. And this time around Nintendo in Japan is listening to feedback and offering two shipping methods for the posters: folded or rolled.
On one hand, thanks for the correction! On the other hand, I am even sadder now knowing that it is even easier to redeem and doesn't need gold coins.

What dessert store do I need to go to in what city??

Was doing some research on the Blade rates and I found that somebody on GameFAQs posted what the New Game Plus Rare Blades stats are.

Akhos - Electric HLR (15% Ether)
Patroka - Earth ATK (15% Strength)
Mikhail - Dark TNK (15% Agility)
Obrona - Electric ATK (20% Agility)
Perdido - Fire ATK (10% Strength)
Cressidus - Earth TNK (20% HP)
Sever - Wind TNK (15% Strength)

Something else to note was that one of the Blades wasn't on the Blade drop list for some reason. Not sure if it will mean they are a quest blade or what. There are some quest blades in the probability chart already.

Mikhail.

This is going to make me sound really stupid, considering I'm 84 hours in but what is Ether and Affinity? I see all these core crystals that boost those attributes but I really don't understand what exactly they do.

Ether is basically magic damage. If you go to your weapon arts, you'll see that they are classified under physical and ether, so boost the appropriate stat. Most weapons have a couple of physical ones and a couple of ether ones, but some like Ether Cannon (you can tell by the name lol) skew heavily in one direction (all 4 for Ether Cannon is Ether)

This game, to me, succeeds in a bunch of things that Final Fantasy XIII tried to do.

It's actually refreshing that a final boss makes you use the central party-based mechanic of the game in order to defeat it, instead of just exhaustively whittling down a health bar. I beat it with two rounds of orbs and chain attacks, but I've seen people go all out to max-damage their party and do it in one round.

Affinity is the blue/yellow beam that connects the Driver and the Blade. Max affinity (gold) makes the Blade use Blade Arts more often, and unlocks their Level 4 special

Hate the Tiger game. How necessary is Poppi upgrading? I am chapter 4 right now.
Almost completely unnecessary until late game, at which point you will have other party members to use if you want.

If you have the Expansion Pass you can get some items and a quest that help you develop Poppi a little bit outside of playing Tiger Tiger.

I'm on chapter 9, just got past
the point where Mikhail takes one for the team and attacks Indol so my party could go inside and continue to pursue Jin.
Roughly how long till the end?

I'm going into the last boss fight of the game, and I have 1 Shining Star chip and a mirror matter chip. What is best for Mythra? She has the Crit V aux and Rex has the optical headband as well as the avante-garde medal.

Is it better to take the huge Crit increase with lower overall damage from mirror matter, or the huge damage with a lesser Crit chance via the shining star chip?

You got the numbers? I'd say critical hit percentage is better generally, but I don't know what sacrifice you're making damage-wise.

Are you using Nia as a blade or driver, if at all?

Damage wise it will be 605 with mirror matter and with shining star it is 898. Crit is 50% with mirror and 32% with shining star.

Driver - Nia is pure heal, Rex is pure attack with Morag as pure agility tank. Speaking of which - would it be a wise investment to get a gold nopon mask on Morag with the added damage/crits that Rex will now be doing? I have an hp% increase accessory on her now along with the top Esther shoes so I could potentially replace the hp booster with the nopon mask, and add some pentagon chips for her blades to boost agility further.

That's a toughie. Mythra has a 'critical boost' passive too, meaning her percentage will be even higher when you're in battle than the numbers show.

Personally I don't think you can go wrong with either. I'd probably go with the mirror matter chip. Lower base damage, but greater critical damage over the course of the fight and more heals too.

That was the way I was leaning. Also, in terms of my noted tank:
