Little help here, i just beat nergigante and now on the hunt for elder dragond, is it necessary to have a dragon element weapon with elder seal or can i just keep rocking my fully upgraded diablo charge blade? Feel kinda bad if i have to separate from it.

Not necessary at all.

... Yes, because capturing it to be slowly carved away by researchers and/or be sent to the special arena for it to fight the person who sent it there in the first place, all for the entertainment and loots of the hunters and their spectators, is so much more humane...

Trust me, killing it is better.

When you say it that way, hahah.

Though, I don't think the arena has any spectators though, at least I don't think it's being done for the benefit or entertainment, more like for training and that kind of thing. Doesn't make it any less cruel tho.

I dont even get whats happening there

I couldn't tell if I died or not players just seem to go down instantly and it happens so fast >.<

Tempered monster investigations seem rather... Sparse.

Also unlocked Kirin, woohoo!

grats. I guess the tempered investigations get filled up so fast. Mine do when I SoS

so far I got these:

Is anyone else with a female main toying with the idea of starting a male character for the armor? This is one of the few/only games I can think of where, imo, male armor looks better than its female counterpart.

I just HATE to do all the LR stuff again.

I'm trying out the Dragon Piercer build and I have a few questions. Do coatings, power especially, affect Dragon Piercer? How exactly does critical draw into max charge work with the bow? Do I just hold R2 while it's sheathed and then fire Dragon Piercer after the two charges?

I dunno about health, but they hit much harder.

Like, I can't tell the difference between HR Leg / Pink and tempered. Is it more of a subtle difference?

Is there a glitch with the radial menu with secondary tools? Whenever I set my secondary tool / second mantle to a direction, it never lasts past the mission. D:

Free Element does NOT count as part of the elementless gem unless the element remains locked.

I'm gonna do it except I have a male main that will get to use half of the weapons and when I'm done with it I will create a female character that will get to use the other half of the weapons ;)

The endgame grind is too much. I keep getting junk decorations doing tempered monster/elder dragon investigations. I think I might finally be done.

I feel like they really missed an opportunity to give the LBG and HBG more moves in world.

I agree. It feels like more could've been done with them, and they're both kind of worse than the bow, from what I've seen.

Still a lot of fun to use, though. HBG remains my second main after the CB. The PS4 controller is a huge improvement over the 3DS controls, and Wyvernheart is a lot of fun.

Yeah the bow feels so amazing in World. They really could of spruced up LBG and HBG to make them on par.

I tried liking HBG since I like the two special shots but it's just to slow for me. Been using LBG and its ok but bow is still my main.

Trying to cut Xeno's tail as a bow user is a nightmare -________________________________-

All it takes is from him to just turn around and suddenly the tail is at the other side of the floor, lol.

Not to mention he's just wayy to big so more often than not trying to critical distance his arse is just so annoying. Not to mention those fireblights...............

Sheeeeeeeeshhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.

I didn't realise his tail could come off the first time I fought him but re-fighting him last night with a bow I tore him apart and snapped the tail off by accident. I was basically just trying to line him up head to tail or tail to head. Particularly when he drops down. I also find spread shots hit the tail easily enough as he charges past you.

I don't know about the specific event, but normally tempered monster hits much harder than normal. For example Tobi Kadachi tail slam took 80-100 Health even with 400 DEF

Thank you, can you tell me what the elder seal does then?

Yes my friends list dont show up as well.

The Kirin/Kushala/Teostra/Vaal envelops themselves with aura when they are enraged. Kushala wind aura will throw off anyone close to him, Teostra fire aura drains your health when you are near him (and I think inflict fireblight?), Kirin thunder aura will make melee attack bounce off his bodies, and Vaal aura drains your health when you are near him and may halves your max health. Aura also deflects Bowguns ammo and Bow arrows.

Elderseal when procced, removes those aura.

Maybe I misunderstood your comment, but I believe the only Bow moveset that can cut tails are DragonPiercer and the melee attack ?

I have no idea, I did cut it with the dragon piercer however if it is the same as previous MonHun games then it must reach a certain damage threshold before it is severable. This damage can be done by any means, in previous games at least. The final hit to sever must be cutting or in this case dragon piercer (maybe also piercing pods?). I certainly wasn't landing multiple DP through the tail. Two at best and maybe a handful that clips it.

I remember one of the strategies for the older games' hammer users was to attack or bomb the tails. Then when the monster is asleep throw a boomerang at it which will cut it instantly.

He's definitely not difficult, in fact he's surprisingly easy, but I don't know, trying specifically to cut off his tail is just an annoying affair to me.

Though last night it's kinda weird, I'm pretty sure I didnt manage to cut off his tail as he dropped dead but I got the tail when carving him. Did the tail snapped off with my very last attack and just happened to fall off under his body, right where I carved him? That's a really major stroke of luck for me then, hahah.

Is doing the Deep Green Blues event quest the quickest way to get hunter rank up right now? I really want to get to HR 100 before I take a break from the game and finally start playing Shadow of the Colossus lol.

Looks like completing it will give half a level each time.
The new event quest with the two tempered monsters gives a lot of xp too.

Was looking at that one as well. I'm not fond of Free Element, but I figure I'll use it eventually, so may as well get started.
I just started using this Bow. I'm still not settled on armor for it. Since it has 20% affinity, I'm actually considering the Zorah armor, since it has ability to boost status effects on critical hits. It also conveniently has a free element skill, which is needed since the free element charm only gives +2 at best.

Wait what?????? Is that true? I am under the impression that if i continue to damage the tail of monsters with bows even with normal attacks then they can be cut off, but it turns out only dragon piercer and melee that can do that?????

I was just avoiding the major attacks, apparently. Legs one shotted me with his tail spike thing. That said, damn good event for HR. You get damn near a full bar of xp each successful run, and they take maybe 20 minutes. Also tempered tracks for days. Not sure if you can get stones from it, though. Didn't yet.

You can't, you need to deal Severing damage (Sword icon on the Field Guide) to cut tails. Bowgun and Bow deals Shot damage (Ammo icon pn the Field Guide). That's why Slicing Shot for Bowguns exist, because normal ammo can't cut tails, and Bow arrows falls under the same category as Bowgun normal ammo.

And no, at least in 4U/Gen (just checked and this is also a thing in 3rd generation game), only severing damage counted toward severing tails, so putting bombs/using hammer/shot does not do anything to help you sever the tails.

Yeah I think they're actually pretty boring for the most part. Can't really say I play MH to treat it like a regular TPS. I do like the different kinds of ammo but it still doesn't make BGs fun to use for me. I started out using HBG because damage just seemed insane especially with slicing ammo, but got bored shortly after.

Hammer and Charge Blade brought me back to my Bloodborne ways.

Just fought Odogaron, great fight, by far the best monster so far.
Yeah he really messed me up at first. As fun as it is to play with others, I really love the intensity of playing solo, and this particular monster reminded me so much of Blood Starved Beast from Bloodborne in its aggression and weird screeches (plus the environment it's in).

Dang, didn't even consider that! I made a mix set using the Zorah arms and Kirin legs so I could get Free Element lv. 3 while also using the Azure Rathalos Waist for Pierce Up.

High Rank Kirin doesn't hit nearly as hard as I was expecting, though I might just have my experiences colored by the ridiculous damage of Low Rank Kirin relative to other Low Rank monsters.

Guess I need to wait for Tempered Kirin to get another ass kicking.

God, farming decorations is a nightmare. It's basically farming charms all over again. I thought this torment was over with the ability to craft charms, but nope.

I wish there was a basic mission that would guarantee 5-10 decorations. At least then I'd feel like my odds were a bit better.

Tempered normal monsters are super easy because you can just put on the Vitality mantle and they'll be dead in half a minute because their health isn't any higher. I forget if I even carted for that first duel Beetlejuice fight.

Honestly you're better off not going for Free Element unless you really, really, really like status effects for some reason. Crafting element bows for each element (or just going for the Galebender elementless bow for raw damage) will get you further in the long run.

I'm maining Bow at the moment and the main skills I initially went for were Constitution, Weakness Exploit, and Attack Up. Attack Up vs skills that increase affinity are dependent on how you play, but neither one will hurt in general.
