This after dipping their toes in to the water last year:

The social network isn't the only tech company to have a presence at CPAC. While Google is not a sponsor in 2017, a company spokeswoman said the search giant will host a reception tied to the event on Thursday. The event, according to a source, will include former GOP Rep. Susan Molinari, who runs Google's D.C. office. Google has previously provided financial support to the American Conservative Union, the organization that convenes CPAC every year. The group did not respond to multiple requests for comment.

The silence on this forum is deafening.

Trash company confirmed yet again.

That's super shit, but a naive part of me is hoping that they'll try and push the discussion to the left a bit.

Again, super naive of me.

Ummm...

Is anyone surprised? Google is concerned about money and will pay lip service to various causes for beneficial PR. They were never on your side and will never be your friend.

Just curious do they also sponsor left and minority politically driven events?

I don't think it excuses CPAC at all though, with that alt right stuff and general garbage.

If they don't it just proves their diversity is just lip service then.

Personally I'm at the default position where Apple, Google, Facebook, Twitter, Microsoft and the Domain of Beezosbulb, fuck all Corporate entries are necessary evils. They succeeded in worming their way into our lives

Most companies play both sides. Wish more people would stop expecting anything less from most companies. Their only goal is to maintain and lobby people to keep laws in favor of their business models and/or make them lax to allow for them to make more money. It sucks to see but its expected sadly.

As a huge Google fan, this really grosses me out. I will be curious to see what they have to say about this.

When will people learn that every single one of these big companies is shit and only looking out for the bottom line?

what exactly are they presenting tho? That's what matters most to me. I don't mind having some sane dialogue in a shithole like cpac.

Amusing that this had no responses until the bump.

And yeah, this isn't all that surprising. Tech companies want to reach into those republican wallets too.

Not too mention Google once held fund raisers for senator "hey look at this snowball climate change pfft" Inahofe

I am guessing James Damore was only fired because he made the feelings of Goolge public.
Fuck this company.

Their DC office which is run by a former GOP rep is probably ground central for their lobbying efforts; I'd imagine that's the focus of the event they are hosting.. a chance to shmooze with people who are in power and make laws that affect the company.

Meh; not going to lose my shit over something like this. It likely has nothing to do with promoting anything the GOP or Conservatives do.

Not here

nor anywhere I frequent in my experience

Meanwhile if you post a thread with 'Apple' in the title expect a fierce debate and phone warz

Some of that is we have a handful of VERY vocal, VERY obvious fans who comprise the defense force. There's no real other way to state it, because they deflect any sort of blame for the company in any way.

This is some bullshit from Google, but as someone else said above, you figure these big companies play both sides all the time. They shouldn't touch CPAC with a ten thousand foot pole though.

The fire Bernie lit under progressives has big tech shook, so its not at all surprising that they'll start cozying up to the GOP the more pressure is put on Democrats to fight for progressive economic policies that they are vehemently against.

Stop it.

Wealthy people and their companies ain'tcho friends! There's barely such a thing as a moral corporation.

Push comes to shove, we've been telling these bozos everything about ourselves through internet and phone use to the point where populist leftist public figures will be blackmailed to irrelevancy a generation or two from now.

"Presenting Sponsor"
Do they have an actual presentation? Do they have a booth there or something?

And just like that, I'm switching to Bing!

Qwant or Duckduckgo. You shouldn't be using Google anyway.
why yall surprised, these mega companies arent looking out for you or minorities, lol. google/disney/apple aren't your friend

The amount of times whether or not "someone is surprised" is the point is rather low. The point is rather "Will you give a company a pass, which supports destrucitve forces".

You can give them a pass, but you don't have to.
