Does the game make it obvious when you get your first weapon steamstone? I must have done over 20 tempered quests and still don't have the option with smithy

It may be a crutch but man, mushroomancer is so nice, especially the part about having a farmable dash juice. How do you even bow without it?

capcom needs to overhaul the weapon design for the G version, most of them are just carbon copies of each other with a little color or detail changed. it kinda kills my drive to make some of them.

Fuck yeah, finally got the Non-Elemental Boost gem. Now I can really start tearing shit up.

Now if I can just get a Capacity gem and lose these Dodo greaves for something better.

It's funny that out of all the monsters in the Wildspire Bolero quest Kulu takes me the longest to kill.

I look forward to hearing more about how you're getting along with the game.

As a long time Monster Hunter player, I feel like MHW was super hand holdy in the beginning, though not in a bad way, and it's been really interesting to see new players find it really obtuse.
The thing is that it was hand holdy in a very modern "let's make sure that we give players a clear goal to advance the main quest", but it didnt really introduce actual mechanics and concepts organically, which was what I struggled with.

I just did the second Zora quest (they've got some cool ideas but man is the progression through those quests haphazard), and it seems like... I'm in post game? It started unlocking tons of reskins and whatnot, so I'm just not sure if there's something to strive for other than hunting more monsters and getting stronger.

Is there an Era squad on PS4 with room for JimmyStav? I'm in desperate need of Nergigante tails, and I can't get them on my own--I'm a hammer dude. Rest assured, I can kill him quite easily, so you won't have to drag my sorry ass along. :)

You're not in the post game yet. The story ends when the credits roll.

good to know, thanks. I was hoping there was more progression for a while.

I've tried a lot of different weapons, and have mostly used heavy bowguns, bows, and switch axe. I've used charge blade a bit, but far less. Toward the beginning I tried to make gunlance work but the slowness and constant need to sharpen drove me away from it.

I was going to make a blast weapon and found myself assuming that the sparkly/shiny attacks from switch axe and charge blade would do that most effectively, which led me to wonder what the shiny effects for those weapons even do. Are they just to signify that you're dealing more damage? It certainly seems like my paralysis attacks come from my switch axe when the blade is out, and not when it's in axe form.

Completely unrelated: why does this game have friendly fire? I know you cant deal damage to friendlies, but while trying out new weapons I randomly find out that a certain thing will send my roommate flying whereas other seemingly destructive things dont.

I just hit 200 hours of dual blade and decided to try out the long sword this morning and have been playing long sword all evening. It's finally nice being able to hit dragon tails in the air :)

Forgot to use a lucky voucher and canceled a tempered investigation right after posting it. Well I just found out that canceling an investigation uses one of the times you can do it.

Welp, I'm starting to get very annoyed with this game. I've fougtf azure rathalos at least 10 times now, and I can't seem to get his Ruby. Even with legiana good luck perk, I'm getting nothing. This really has me stumped now because its starting to feel unfair. My friends got 7 in the same amount of time I've played with them and all I'm getting is scales.....what am I don't wrong? I'm carving and capturing just to see if I can get them, and so far nothing. It's kind of disheartening

1. Complete the weekly bounties and get a gold wyverian print to trade for a gem at the melder. You can also complete the fisherman and endemic researcher's requests to receive a gold print
2. Do investigations, not quests. You can get rare bonus rewards from investigations

make sure you do investigations with gold rewards. Besides that, its just RNG dude. Or just buy the Ruby you need with the gold ticket from the weekly, you can get one every week.

Just use a wyvern print at the melder.

PS: I personally see nothing wrong with it taking more than 10 kills to get one. Increase your chances by breaking as many parts as possible, then capturing. I've only intentionally hunted for a ruby once, and I've used probably 20 of them between all my armor and weapons. I used the melder for two of them.

Is there any way to see what Warrior/Hero Streamstones you have? I know I've got a bunch for weapons I don't use, but they don't really appear anywhere, and I'd kind of like to know whether I need a Tier 7 or 8 weapon to augment before I upgrade it.

Go to sell your items, sort the materials from all your farming, and they'll be on the last page.

Crit boost is very might worth it at high affinity levels. It requires very good decorations, but it's one of the most powerful skills in the game

Some attacks just can't be dodge reliably with base i-frames. Things with large lingering hitboxes you are better off avoiding altogether. Trying to i-frame barroth's charge by dodging right into him is extremely difficult if not impossible without evasion skills, and it offers you basically no benefit since barroth will be too far away to counter attack afterwards.

Crit boost only increase crit damage from 25% to 30/35/40%.

So instead of 2.5% damage increase per 10% Affinity its 3/3.5/4%, so the increase is about 0.5/1/1.5%. For comparison, one Attack skill, gives around 1.5% damage increase for most endgame weapons.

Thanks guys. I'll go with those tips and hopefully something works out. Non of the monsters have been much of a hassle, it's just the rewards have been. I don't want the system to hand them out like candy, but it kind of sucks to hear your friends getting the rare item on the first , second, third, forth, fifth etc tries consecutively while you haven't gotten a single one lol. Its just defeating

DB is a lot of fun. Been farming with it and also using it to hunt Tempered Elder Dragons. Really nice change of pace from the other weapons because of the speed. Still learning. I should look up a proper guide on all the moves.

Does anyone know why the element boost skills go so high when most weapons max out after 2 or 3 levels? I also did some testing to see if the % bonus at rank 4+ increases above the element cap and it doesn't look like it does, kinda disappointing.

I think its only for really specific weapon builds. I was playing around with it myself and cant't find any instance where I'd want to pump that much element into something. There's probably some case where it makes sense though.

The weekly bounty system is really nice. I hope this continues to be a thing for future Monster Hunters.

I've seen it used on ice bows against Teo. Seems very effective when you're targeting his head because of the flame aura, the guy killed him in sub 2min.

Elder Melder was very kind to me today =) I'm running low on junk to trade so I'll probably spend the weekend farming tempered investigations.

Yeah Nergi weapons always seem to be among the best across all types.
Yeah , Nergi weapons are good , but imo Val Hazaak end tree stuff is just superior in damage, additional white sharpness , the only exception is the lower elder seal but I got lucky enough to have the Jewel for it so I'm golden.

My theory is that the maximum skill level was designed for g-rank weapons and they never bothered to lower the maximum skill level only for the vanilla game.
