I'm into it.

Spencer burned bridges with Secret Empire but it wasn't any shittier than some of the events other good writers (Bendis, Aaron, Reminder) have plopped out at Marvel. His street level/goofy stuff has been consistently solid. And Ottley is obviously an A+ get for Marvel here.

And there it is.

I guess now we have to hope that Spencer doesn't have anything in store for Spider-Man like he did for Cap.

Ottley is fucking NICE on Spidey. I love it.

So far Rich is what, 2/2 on creative calls for Marvel? I'd bet that there's some degree of truth to his Hickman rumor then too.

Ooh, Ottley is a nice get.

Don't really know that much about Spencer other than Secret Empire looked like garbage from afar, but I feel like events are normally pretty susceptible to some awful shit no matter who the writer is.

I liked Ottley on Invincible, but that cover looks like low-rent Chris Bachalo.

Yeah, even when Hickman denied it Rich pointed out how the wording was specific.

I often wonder why bother arguing with Rich if you're just going to prove him right later lol.

I mean Spencer did well on Superior Foes so I'm hopeful but yes, Secret Empire and his Cap was pretty trashy

I'm liking a lot of the creative teams shown off so far for the new launch. I like Spencer as well, not his bigger stuff, but the street level stuff for sure.

Superior Foes is a great book, but his Captain Falcon book meandered and was boring as hell. I'd normally say it coasted on its wokeness, but considering how short it was and how quickly that status quo was undone it didn't even do that. Spencer has strong character voices but he really really needs better structure.

It's sad that as dour as I am on the potential of this run, it will still be better than Slott's phoned in saturday morning cartoon spidey that we've had for like 10 years. I'm tired of defining every supporting cast member by how many stupid pills they took this morning rather than genuine character conflict.

It looks like Jonathan Hickman may have signed his next contract with Marvel Comics — but we understand that previously he was all ready to go at DC Comics.

The switch came down to a number of things. C.B. Cebulski as Marvel's new Editor-in-Chief was a major reason for Hickman to change his mind about Marvel.

But at DC Comics, he was planning to write the new Legion of Super-Heroes series. However, I understand that there were internal delays, with Geoff Johns having specific characters and teams that are off the table until Doomsday Clock concludes, and that series has been getting a lot later, switching from monthly to bi-monthly.

Lol, the "I want to watch the world burn" part of me loves this.
But fuck, I've wanted Ottley on Spider-Man for so long. But not like this :'(

Is Zdarsky gonna keep going on Spectacular? Have any changes been announced?
Because as long as he's there, I'm happy.

Brind back DeZego. And fuck it, pair him with McGuinness now that Spidey God Wieringo is gone.

"When you get excited to write Spider-Man, it's because you're also excited to write Jonah and Aunt May and MJ and Black Cat. You know, just there's so many incredible characters in this orbit, so getting to play with that cast, getting to make them a big part of our story is key. And I can say pretty much all of your favorites will be making an appearance at some point."

MJ and Black Cat confirmed, even if they aren't on that promotional image.

I mean, if you like Spider Man comics you should probably read Brand New Day and forward. so much goodness.

Eh. The shuffling creative teams meant that run was always going to be a mixed bag. And repeating a lot of the same plot points. (How many times in a row did Peter run out of web fluid?)

And Slott's run, post-Superior, was mostly awful (with, ironically, RYV being the sole exception).

I'm excited. Didn't read Secret Empire, but judging by Spencer's street level stuff, he's solid in that regard, which is exactly what I want because street level heroes are my jam.

Superior Foes was amazing in the best way possible too.

I'm mostly honestly glad that Slott is gone. He started out strong, and he really had some legitimately great ideas, but I feel most ended in less than stellar execution after a while. Superior and Spider-Verse were disappointments for me. Especially Spider-Verse. I respect Slott for being an overall great writer and for being willing to stand up to Bendis when it came to Spider-Man, but his time was too long and he works better as an idea man than a writer now in my opinion.

Ottley is one of the best, nicest and most reliable artists in the industry. Famtastic get for Marvel.

I loved the shuffling creative teams. mixed bag = variety.

definitely a dip in quality post-Superior but I enjoyed Spider Verse and I'm liking the more recent stuff with Mockingbird and losing his job though I'm a little behind, I just started this symbiote event thing. seems not so great after reading two issues.

Ottley is a really great get, I absolutely loved his work on Invincible and he's a perfect fit for Spider-Man.

Spencer can go either way on his books, so here's hoping he brings the good stuff for this. Though honestly, I'm just so glad to have Slott off the book at this point that I'll take anyone.

I'll try it. Can't usually blame writers for shitty Marvel events when they're virtually all shitty. I enjoyed his Falcon Cap (at first) and his Ultimate X-Men.

I'm not super excited. But I'll try it.

Agreed. A few fun moments does not necessitate or excuse 10 years of Slott's ASM.

Anthologies are a hard sell. BND was essentially a Spider-Man Anthology run with recurring subplots to make it seem like they were building up to something. I gave up on it as I found the stories ranged too wildly for my tastes.

ASM Post-Superior was awful. Spider-Verse was mostly meaningless cameos drowning out the overall lack of any kind of coherent story and characterization. There were far too many bland villains. It could have worked better if they had less villains and we had a smaller group of Spiders (Peter, Miles, Gwen, Mayday, Miguel, and one or two more) working to save all the Spiders.

Clone Conspiracy was awful. "Spider-Man needs more clone stories" is not a thought anyone should ever have.

The Mockingbird relationship was completely pointless. Slott would have been better served building MJ back up since
she literally just shows up just before his final story and seemingly gets back with Peter.

The only Slott story worth a damn post-Superior was, ironically, RYV.

ASM is a mess and it desperately needs this new blood it's getting.
