Spencer is funny so he will be great. And I can think of no better artist. Added back to my pull list. Two marvel titles now!

Oh, you know what? I actually don't mind this and it kind of fixes my issue. They did this in the early to mid-2000s too.

They just need to stick to their damn guns. I don't mind this if it stays but you know they're just gonna say "after some consideration we decided this was too confusing to readers" and go back to one of the other methods, and then change that again next time they need a marketing gimmick for another line-wide refresh.

For the people defending Spencer, his (and Mavel Comics') fuckery with Secret Empire has been well documented: io9 and Hollywood Reporter

Then again, I know Slott also had his issues dealing with criticism.

Just blows my mind that Marvel Comics is like this when the movie side has knocked it out of the park with Black Panther. As someone who has always been aware of comics, but not interested, the MCU had me checking them out recently and Secret Empire plus the reactions of writers and higher ups at Marvel Comics to criticism was like a big "We don't need your money" sign. They're so out of touch it's painful to watch.

Marvel Comics seems to be clinging to their usual demographics, which isn't going to get them anywhere in the long run. I see things like Spencer being on Spider-Man and that's an automatic NOPE for me.

I'll miss Slott. ASM has had a great, consistent voice for so long. Hopefully Spencer is good. I liked his Sam book. And Secret Empire is fine, just another big dumb crossover, but it wasn't any better or worse than most of them.

Still wish Peter David would get a shot on ASM. His dialogue and plots are still great on Scarlet Spider and previously on 2099. The biggest downfall of Scarlet Spider is that nobody wants to read Scarlet Spider. PAD's whole career has been spent making gold out of F grade characters. Just once I'd love to see him on a flagship title, and ASM would be the one... his Peter Parker (and supporting cast) dialogue has always been great. His style is perfect for Spidey. PAD is the "funny guy" who can get damn dark under the surface at times, just like Peter Parker (I mean hell, his run on Spectacular in the 80's gave us "The Death of Jean DeWolff"). Give PAD one great magnum opus Spidey run.

Happy for Ryan. He always wanted Spider-Man. Nick Spencer fucking sucks though.

Guess it'll take another decade for Spidey to get good again.

The rumor l've heard over the years is that their particular royalty structure for older comics would make a subscription model prohibitively expensive. No idea if it's true, but wouldn't surprise me.
I read last year they were cooking something with amazon but no news since. Meanwhile, they are leaving my money in my wallet.

Spencer has written good books and his work on a Spider-Man book was one of his best.

Also, Spider-Man has been very good at multiple points over the last 10 years. It'd be dishonest to say that Slott's run was bad.

Unlike most I really enjoyed Hydra Cap, the actual event was your average shitty marvel event that isn't Secret Wars/Annihilation saga.

Damn I want Hickman driving the ship again, that era was the most I've ever been engaged in comics.

I loved Superior Foes. Haven't read anything else by Spencer, but that series was incredible. He seems like a good fit. I haven't read anything Spidey since Bendis' first Ultimate run, this could be something that pulls me in again.

Well, at least he isn't Slott.

Spencer self-destructed a lot last year, but he still has talent and he seems like a potentially good fit for Spidey. Will give his first issue a shot.

He had 20+ issue arc with Sam Wilson as cap first, and fucked that up by ending it with some "nothing good is possible" shit.

The whole story is Sam asking himself "Can I really be Captain America? Should I be?" and I think that's a decent take on the book. I'm good with self-doubt and introspection. But at some point you need him to say "Fuck yeah I'm definitely Captain America!" instead of "Boy that sucked, welcome back Steve, I'm gonna be Falcon again and go fix Chicago."

Dude is incapable of sticking the landing. Secret Empire's real sin is robbing both Cap books of a coherent ending.

Ottley is one of the best artists in the business - I'm suddenly interested in Spider-Man again.

No one nailed his voice so hard in this century. Joe Kelly is a close second, and honorable mention to Bendis Ultimate Peter run.

Can't disagree more.

I actually wish Superior happened earlier in his run so that Slott's awful take on the character can be explained as this Peter being a lesser memory-fragment copy of the real Peter, who, of course, died in Otto's body, where he remains dead to this day.

I gotta stop posting here.

I mean. Ya'll are both wrong, so no I'd say you're in the right spot lol.

Anyway, I'm ready for Slott on Iron Man. No clue if he's going to be good, but....*sigh* I'm tired of Bendis' Invincible Iron Man. Loved it at first, but he's clearly telling a story that should've been done ages ago and yet is being dragged out til May. >_< Wrap that shit up, B.

Well, for those wondering if Boomerang was going to be in this:

He's going to be Peter's new roommate

Ottley is fucking NICE on Spidey. I love it.

So far Rich is what, 2/2 on creative calls for Marvel? I'd bet that there's some degree of truth to his Hickman rumor then too.

Links?

Marvel has sucked for a long time now. Hopefully they managed to hire some of the talent they lost. Maybe then I'll get back at reading some of their stuff.
