Wow this is horrible. Is there another browser to test? I'm used to Dolphin and iCab. If that's how iPhone X renders forums, I'll cancel my order and get a 8+.
Uhm, luckily it looks exactly like on the X (well, wider) on the Plus lol. Switches in landscape where it actually makes sense. Avatar + post on the same line is horrible in portrait orientation wtf?

I'm pretty sure the browser in the pic isn't safari tho so idk

3D touching on the buttons on the lock screen feels really satisfying. Like pushing an actual button. I had a 7 Plus so I'm no stranger to the updated Taptic Engine but damn

Nice! Thinking of maybe going Vegan this year. Recently became a vegetarian (have a bunch of vegan friends whispering in my ear).

Had a Matte black 7 plus with the apple black leather case this past year. Sort of forgot that it was matte black up until a week ago when I started shopping for cases and tried going caseless with it.

You're right about the light colored cases.

Thought about going clear, but I keep reading that clear cases turn yellow over time. I know that Apple will replace your silicone case within the first year. Never did that with the leather because I was always OK with it's wear and tear.

Guess color really doesn't matter once it's in a case.

Ah cool. It's certainly a lot easier (and tastier) to go whole hog than it used to be.

It's the perennial disappointment with the cases thing; we get these gorgeous devices and then forget what they look like until it's time to sell it or give it to a relative. I really should get over it, it's not like we put our cars in plastic wrap.

Yeah the matte black was amazing, the first iPhone that convinced me to go black. Never liked the space grey or the piano finish, but the matte black..gorgeous phone. Not sure why they went back to dark grey this time after that.

It's not really a price specific to replacing the back glass, it's the replacement cost for the whole phone for any non-screen damage.

I'm sure 3rd party shops will offer back glass replacement for a lot cheaper.
EDIT: Nevermind, process seems more difficult after reading a tear down.

This is something I wanted to raise actually. I bought Applecare+ over the phone yesterday, and they read out the T&Cs (which I normally ignore). It talks about not covering for cosmetic damage on the rest of the phone - could they argue that a cracked back is cosmetic and not replace it? Surely accidental damage is still damage? I assume that high cost for replacement/repair is because that covers everything else - internals etc. They could perhaps have a third option of 'back cover replacement' - which they havne't needed before with the aluminium backs

The web notifications are probably for Autofill. By default, Face ID will automatically log into web sites for you if you're using iCloud Keychain, but you can turn that off.

I agree on the desk stuff. Face ID isn't working at the kind of angle I'm usually checking my phone at when it's laying on the desk while I work. You have to almost have your face over the device for it to trigger. I feel like Apple wasn't quite honest on that. In general though, Face ID is so much better than Touch ID. I'm getting some lag on it though, I'll swipe up, it'll go to a "checking face" screen for about a second, and then unlock. Not every time, but maybe 20% of the time? The rest it's instantaneous. Hopefully my face isn't some weird outlier like my fingerprints were, and it'll get better over time as it learns.

I wonder if the 'put the phone at a low angle while enrolling for FaceID' tip will help with this. If you enroll with a face straight on for both scans, it might not recognise you at an angle. If you watch the Verge review where they show the IR dots, it looks to emit at quite a shallow angle 'down' from the phone - comes down onto his chest. So it seems like it should be able to see you at a fairly shallow angle. Might take some experimentation

Apple would be smart to use face ID to as a way to have profiles on iOS. Imagine using your phone as you normally and your kid using their face to launch their kids profile with parental controls on

Got mine yeaterday and so far I am really impressed by it (coming from an iPhone 6S).
The screen is great, face id works surprisingly well, the speakers are loud and somehow i can type with much less typing errors.

(Yeah first post)

Cosmetic refers to scratches, not cracks. If they give you grief about repairing scratches just smash the thing and try again

I had the black silicone on the 7 and it's held up great. Not as black anymore as the black I just put on my X, but totally looks fine and no wear issues. Best case I've had.

And I don't know, I love the X in silver and wish I felt comfortable enough with scratches to go caseless. The back is a kind of odd color, but the effect is nice and I love the stainless steel sides. Such a nice tribute to the original iPhone.

You know what Apple needs? IPhone X cases which are hard cases and have a glass back/stainless steel edges so your phone can be protected but still look like an iPhone X..

I like looking at my lock screen and glancing at my notifications without it unlocking.

I feel I'd be really annoyed if I wanted to see the notifications then it took me to the home screen.

I wouldn't want the swipe removed (it should be an option). This morning I checked my notifications in bed and then went back to sleep. It would have been annoying if it went straight to the home screen tbh.

The swipe should just be anywhere on the lock screen, not just at the home bar thing.

So far Face ID seems to work quite well even at weird angles. We'll see how it works in the bright sun tomorrow.

side by side comparison between looking at resetera on my pixel 2 xl vs iphone x (from the shitty camera on my surface). Both phones roughly have the same vertical viewing display area, sure the X is a little skinnier, but damn why is the text and ui area gigantic on iphone? Can't even fit avatar and text on same line. Why isn't there a 'smaller scale mode' option like on iphone plus models?
I tried using iCab to change the user-agent to make era think i'm using chrome on an android phone and it still displays as it does in Safari. I think it's a width thing, because the X is not as wide as other phones. Resetera could make some theme adjustments I suppose? Otherwise it probably will stay this way.

Anyway, I know it's not always ideal (like when lying in bed on your side, one of my fav places to browse, heh) and some don't like it, but if you browse ERA in landscape mode on your X it's a much better experience IMO :)

Finally found a situation where Face ID isn't as great. I wear contacts but put on glasses at night. Woke up this morning and grabbed my phone without putting on my glasses. Face ID failed. Took me a second to understand, but I'm nearsighted and when I grab my phone without wearing my glasses, I put it so close to my face that Touch ID isn't going to work. Not a big deal, but I hadn't realized how close I need to hold my phone when I can't see it in the morning.

They really need to get rid of the homebar or whatever it's called. It is absolutely unnecessary.
I like looking at my lock screen and glancing at my notifications without it unlocking.

I feel I'd be really annoyed if I wanted to see the notifications then it took me to the home screen.
Apple can leave that on by default and add an option in accessibility like: "skip swipe on lockscreen" and everyone would be happy.

I feel like doing an upside down L gesture is easier than swiping up a bit and holding in place to bring up the apps in use.

So, what do you guys think about your Iphone X ? does it delivered to you ? does it worth more than 1300€ to you ? I don't know what to do, upgrading or waiting for next year models...

I'm trying to get excited about having one. Finding FaceID to be a very uncompelling feature (TouchID was just fine). I actually really liked using my 7 Plus's iPad like landscape features, which are also gone in the X -- I didn't realize this when I ordered one, and am conflicted about how I feel about that.

But it looks sharp, is super fast... hopefully next year brings more exciting things.

The most frustrating part is that I need to use two hands for CC now. It was fine swiping down once in a while to check my notifications. Now, swiping down all the time is going to be a real pain, especially on the go.

Definitely feels less good, but I can still do it with one hand. Swipe down for reachability (not on by default; enable in accessibility settings), then you can easily reach the corner with your thumb. Two steps for music control isn't great, but it can be done.

Also, I'm trying to read in bed with the iPhone as the only light source in the room, I'm staring right at it and it keeps dimming despite claiming it shouldn't. If I let it lock itself, it unlocks as soon as I tap the glass... so it can see that I'm looking at it, so why does it dim/lock despite claiming it won't if I'm looking at it?

I haven't updated to 11.1 yet, I guess I should now.

You should for all the bugs it squashes! 11 was buggy as hell on my 7. But I was having this issue too. Has to be a bug, but it's an easy workaround: go into the display settings and kill auto lock. This will not affect auto lock on the lock screen (Face ID, check notifications, don't swipe up to go home, and the screen will still automatically lock again. But the screen will never again dim during use.

Agreed. I would buy that in a heartbeat - plus it would allow people to learn exactly how much/little damage going caseless potentially causes. I had a waterproof Lunatik case with a Gorilla Glass screen on my 4S. Exactly like a second screen on top of the actual screen. After three years, the case's glass was still flawless, so I've been joyfully going without a screen protector ever since. Never had a scratch.

This phone is pretty great. This is my seventh iPhone from the OG to the X. Easiest migration yet. Wiped my 7 Plus in preparation to sell it. I'm gonna miss it.

I bought it outright instead of payments. I really wanted to do that because I used money I'd made working for myself vs. working for other people. It feels awesome.

iOS 11.2 coming in a few days will allow you to switch between your iPhone and iPad in the middle of a phone call

Definitely worth it for me, but that's because I'm getting half the cost of the phone back from selling my 7. After buying out the second year of my two year contract ($200 CAD) and signing up for a new one for the carrier subsidy, I'm only out $650 CAD, including taxes. That's €425, for the 256GB model. If I was buying outright, at $1550 CAD or whatever it is, I'd say no. But for me, the screen upgrade alone is definitely worth $650. Throw in the new speakers, wireless charging, and increased battery life, and it's a no-brainer.

You definitely had it at a decent price, my actual phone is the IPhone 6 that worth almost anything there so If I get a new one, it'll be at full price...

It's the best phone I've ever used.. but in the end it's another iPhone with slight improvements. Nothing in this phone is blowing my mind right now. If this was kept at the same price flagship iPhones are normally at, buying this would be a no brainier.. but at $1000+ it's hard to recommend.

Just managed to order one for in-store pick-up today which puts me 3 weeks ahead of where pre-ordering 15 minutes after they went on sale got me. Such nonsense...still happy to get off of this 3 year old 6 plus

Driving to an appointment this morning I found that my position on maps was lagging behind so I was missing turns. Curious if anyone else is seeing this.

Is that using Apple's Maps app?
Maybe try Google Maps and see if you lag behind on that - could point to the issue being with the Maps app and you can just delete it and reinstall it.

I came from a 7. I love this thing. I dont even "accidentally" reach for the home button at all. THe swipes all work great. I LOVE the notch, I was unsure but if an app isnt supported it makes it super noticeable. I need all notch apps now! The phone is so fucking fast even compared to my 7. Dont miss touchID at all.

Long story short: yes it is. Coming from 7 plus.

FaceID is great, as is the size of the device. The display is sublime. What surprised me also is how much faster the device feels in day to day use, switching apps etc.

Camera is also noticeably better, color reproduction and tones are noticeably better.
