Honestly, stuff like this is why I like achievements/trophies because they timestamp some of this data. Sucks ((but mind you, i always found the accuracy of this data questionable/inaccurate, maybe I just don't want to believe i'd spend so many hours for a certain game! xD hope they can fix it...)

It's like they're trolling the people that are strangely obsessive about their played time.

I kinda love it?

It's amazing to me how so many of you are overreacting so fast when multiple people have bought up that it's probably a matter of they didn't account for the year and it'll either come back in 10 days or they'll fix it before then.

I mean, it doesn't bother me personally... but this was a strange thing for them to do. I don't understand what the reasoning would be behind them resetting the clock.

I love their games, but stuff like this never surprises me from them. They seem a little clueless outside of making amazing games.

I guess the thing would be to wait a day and see if it ticks to 1 or stays at 0. If the former happens then it's a display rounding issue and easily fixed. Either way, it's stupid.

Maybe it's a glitch? An error checking the year? I don't see why they would remove this data, it doesn't make any sense the "First played X day ago" string either.

It's bizarre how Nintendo was the best when it came to this on 3DS and Wii U yet dropped the ball so hard on Switch.

The reactions to this "controversy" are already far more valuable to me than the knowledge of my play times is

But thoughts and prayers or whatever lol

RESET THE CLOCK!

THIS IS NINTENDO TELLING US THAT A DIRECT IS HAPPENING!

Hell yeah that's the good stuff

Probably just a small error with displaying years.

I'm sure they'll fix it.

But then again: Nintendo.

Crazy amount of overreaction though.

Well, that's stupid. Hopefully they can restore those times, and patch it out asap. Would be a shame if I lost the time count for my games, I like to see those counts.

Time played feels more hidden on the Xbox than Nintendo consoles, but it's there too.

I didn't know I put 616 hours into Forza horizon 3.

You know what else doesn't make any sense? The fact that you need an external app on your mobile phone to actually be able to check how much time you've spent with your games, but here we are.

How do you fuck this up. Doesn't every modern date storage format handle roll overs out of the box?

I just looked at my Switch activity records and sure enough, Zelda BotW, Bomberman R and Snipperclips weren't there anymore (launch titles).

However, when I booted up Snipperclips the title was added back to the activity record (now at the top) and with the previous accumulated game time.

The game save was fine too.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

But why, Nintendo???

I hope taking my Switch offline until they fix this problem circumvents it. At least let us hope it's a bug and not an intended feature.

The engineering effort required to do this seems higher than just mainting a small DB table containing these values in perpetuity.

Nintendo always seems to be putting in twice the effort for half the results when it comes to their infrastructure.

They were probably just not in your 20 most recent games anymore so now they're back on the list, but they haven't hit the 1 year mark since you booted them.

Damn this is a really smart move by Nintendo. Instantly adds a ton of replay value to every Switch game.

This is Nintendo's way to make sure you update the firmware. Glad I got mine in September, so it won't be an issue for me.

I think it's possible that, after 10 days, the system shows again the correct amount of hours - like if the year isn't considered when deciding to show the sentence "First played X days ago" or "Played for X hours or more".

Play time does appear glitched, as others are reporting. With my review Switch unit sent by Nintendo last year, I first played Breath of the Wild on February 20, 2017. This screenshot I just snapped claims I first played it 10 days ago on February 20, 2018.
