Reminded me of Cloud f Darkness and the Wink from Marvel's Imperfect game (look that up why don't you) though more covered up. Also Lisa Lisa kind of.

That's really cool, didn't even know they were holding a contest.

I think this is the first time they have openly talked about working on their next game?

Either way, that's a good looking character and it looks like she will need quite a bit of animation work.

The interesting thing is that she would pair well with Kukri from KOFXIV, There's no official word of his nationality but people have noticed that he counts in Arabic during his spin kicks so there's speculation in that direction. And their designs match.

well they're wrong, they're referring to a body of water that has a name, and the name is persian gulf, calling it the gulf or arabian gulf is the wrong thing to do. not that invested in this so i'll just leave it there.

I know the name is just a vehicle for the cultural cold war between Saudi and Iran. I tend to just call it The Gulf instead of Arabian Gulf or Persian Gulf because the conversation around it gets toxic and sometimes racist.

She really reminds me of someone... Were there any characters with shadows/claws going on from their bodies? Seems a bit like Bardius crossed with this guy from Darkness

Not bad. Not a fan of the high heels but might look even better once it's retouched to fit whatever game it ends up in.

Fan designs are usually a legal nightmare to go ahead with, so it's somewhat surprising SNK are going ahead with it, but good for them.

I'm really liking the design. Between Rashid, Shaheen, & now SNK's fan-made Arabic character, there's quite a bit of Arabic love going around in fighting games as of late.

Is this a first for a fighter?

Companies like Namco etc. have hired pro guest artists to design new characters for their games but this is some random fan from a different country.

Probably from any of the wider known fighting games. Karin in SF was a doujin character before making her way into SF proper. But that probably had its own business background behind it. Curious to know how they do it, who ends up owning what, the use, etc.

That's pretty Skullgirls, I like it. But I wonder if SNK can do this kind of fabric detail justice. I can't imagine it animating in any way other than Skullgirls-style animation. Mariel is too good.

This is coming from an Arab, but I don't think that an abayah wearing female Arab characters is a good thing. On one hand I'm glad that they went with a female Arab instead of going with a male one, since Tekken 7 and SFV already did that, yet the fact that she's completely covered is super disappointing, even if she's getting alt costumes, this will always be her default and the look that'll stick with people's heads, so I guess SF EX's Pullum and SFV's Menat remain the best designed Arab female rep right now.

This is coming from a lady, but I think this character design is superb. I appreciate more clothed/covered up female characters.

i know, but there IS a correct name, it's not really up for dispute. i know what you're saying tho.

Don't say stuff like that here, it might cause some troubles lol xD.
weird that calling something by its correct name is what will cause trouble but ok.
my last post in this thread, since this is off topic and (i don't know why but) sensitive to some people.

Thanks, yeah it will be interesting to see how it all works out and also how significantly SNK incorporates the character into the game (if she will just be there or a part of the story).

I know that it's definitely not the first time it's happened for costumes and such; but not an actual character.
Still, I'd guess the legal aspect would be similar - by submitting a design, they acknowledge it will become the sole property of SNK.

Now it's NRS turn with Mortal Kombat.
That looks like an abaya to you? With the slits on the side and everything? Come on, it looks no more out of place than a sorceress' outfit in a fantasy game.

* the back story says it's an abaya, but still, it doesn't look out of place with this design.

Not doujinshi, Karin was from a officially licensed manga (Sakura Ganbaru).

It's most likely a stylized version to be more fitting to fighting games.

That's probably the coolest female design in a fighting game that I've seen. Really impressive. I'd ditch the high heels though.

I absolutely love her design and how very unique it is. I do think it's fitting of KOF, especially when you look at the XI era of Falcoon designs.

Can't help but feel a little jealous though, lol. Had I known that this character design contest was happening, I would've submitted my Saudi ninja girl.

This is a really cool design! :D I can't stop thinking how cool it looks every time I look at it.

It's great that her design was chosen, she completely earned it.

Very cool design. A bit sexier than I expected too. Kind of a conservative outfit, subverted a bit. I like the supernatural monster cloth too.
