Don't know what build I want to focus on this go round. I've only ever tried Strength focused with Ludwig's Holy Blade.

Go Skill/Bloodtinge, that's the build I had the most fun with. Mainly because of the Rakuyo.... don't know if its statistically the best but it's really fun to play around with. Then you can also use Simon's Bowblade and have access to better firearms in genera.

. I think I need to level up my strength so I can do more damage to him.
Please use the spoiler tags (under the + icon) not the hide tag, thanks!

As for this boss, he's easily parryable. Good luck!

Will do. Also when can I access the DLC? I want to get the new weapons like the pizza cutter. You get that through the DLC correct?

Yep, the DLC is accessed through an item that spawns in the Hunter's Dream after you beat an early story boss:
Vicar Amelia

Fair warning, the DLC is really tough! But you can get the pizza cutter without having to fight any boss (just have to survive some tough enemies) at least.

This game is downloading for me right now, but I'll probably start playing it after I finish R&C

I have never played a souls game before tho and I don't know if I'm ready

Bloodborne was my first as well. Best decision I've made this gen.

You got this! The first area is meant to show you the ropes (you will get punished), but it will click shortly after that. It is okay to feel overwhelmed. It will all come together.

Practice the next few rounds against BSB without trying to kill it or spend any blood vials. just, whenever it attacks, _forward_ dodge to your left (so diagonal forward left, roughly), so you end up besides/behind it, Turn around, hit it once, and move back. Rinse and repeat until you are easily dancing around BSB. At that point you should be able to easily take it. You can also try to parry - but unlike what Morrigan said - I don't think it is *that* easy. But he is very easy to avoid if you dodge generally forward than backward.

^That boss has pretty telegraphed attacks. You just got to get the timing right. I was getting wrecked by it until I parry/visc'd.

You can also dodge through/underneath its attack (the one where it lifts its arm up and lunges forward) and never get hit.

I held off buying Bloodborne as I though I would freak out from the horror elements and I had never played any other souls games.
Eventually I caved after seeing thread after thread about how it was the best game on PS4 and bought it last year.. and as it happens, the threads were correct :)
It's now one of my favorite games..

I'm glad I just figured out how to counter in early game! Always use a visceral attack at the time when the guard was raise, then finish it off with a kill. I did it with a hunchback axed several tries until I got it right and receive 500 BE, I know it wasn't that much but at least I succeed it compared to my previous playthrough; I was always skip that part until I gets stronger which I was a noob back then.

And I have yet learn out how to parry. I used a Threaded Cane and I'm not even sure if it's a parry-able, or I could be wrong.

What is this? Can anyone please explain to me what this event consists in : http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2...ying-together-for-return-to-yharnam-fan-event ?
Just a bunch of players will all return at once from march 10th to march 24th to surge the game with lots of players activities and probably making it a funner experience for all the newcomers getting the game via PS+. Basically trying to replicate those first-playthrough feelings when a new Souls game come out and its surging with activities and funny player messages.

Tempting to partake into that event.

No the Rakuyo is the double-edge saber that slits into a sword and a dagger, though it does look like a Katana. The Katana is the Chikage. The Rakuyo scales off Skill whereas the Chikage scales off Bloodtinge and a bit of Skill.
Thanks I'm looking into it now, I don't have The Old Hunters DLC yet, I should get in on that. So how do I go about Skill/Bloodtinge build? I don't have to much experience with that stuff.

Upgrading your weapon would be more beneficial if you haven't already got it as far as you can at this point in the game.

That boss is also very susceptible to pungent blood cocktails which you should have found a few of by now as loot. (They work same as alluring skulls if you've played Dark Souls).

Nah it's just for fun and a way to add some activities to the game, sorta like what some people did with Demon's Souls a month prior to the closure of its online server. A bunch of people played the game through one last time.

I like the Souls fan for that~

Saves should work. I have the disc but downloaded the PS+ free game and my saves were there

Edit: Might be different if your disc has the dlc though, I should add. I have the base Bloodborne game.

Fat dudes are great for getting the hang of parries.

Just sayin.
This game has parrying?

And that right there is the big issue I have with this game. It doesn't explain fuck all. It took me an embarrassingly long time just to figure out how to equip my damn weapon. Was a long time before I found out there is a button that heals you. Seriously I was playing under the assumption that you can only heal by killing enemies because that was actually healing me if only a little and I was never told the things I was collecting were healing items.

I don't play these kind of games so I'm sure this stuff is natural for players of the genre but for me every little thing kinda needs to be told to me. Honestly I know this is made for core players of the genre but there's no reason basic gameplay mechanics cant be explained in the opening area, or even in an optional tutorial. Hell, a screen for me to read in a pause menu that explains how to play would suffice.

I know most of you will laugh at this but it's essentially my introduction to an entire genre cut me some slack. When I say an entire genre I mean it. I've never actually sat down and played an action RPG before. Only certain turn based ones and even that's only a handful in my whole life.

But I don't hate the game. I was enjoying it. I just get frustrated at not knowing anything. Like, what is a blood echo? Why am I retrieving it? What is the purpose of.....anything I've been picking up or killing?

Same for me! I've been meaning to buy the game for a while now, and almost caved in during one of the more recent sales, but all the talk about the difficulty made me reconsider.
I definitely can't wait to try it out though since there's always so much positivity surrounding this game!

Go to the hunter's dream and look around and read stuff, including messages on the ground. And I mean look everywhere. Everything you need is in the game, the onus is on you to look for it. Core gameplay mechanics are literally explained in the first room you wake up if you care to explore even a little bit, and more is explained in the Dream; again, if you care to look around.

This is the parry/visceral combo. The parry is the shot with the gun and the visceral attack is the hit you do on it when it staggers to the ground. With the parry, you have to get the timing right and interrupt their attack. For the visceral, walk up to them and ht R1.
So that's the point of the gun! I was hardly ever using it since it seemed to do worthless damage. I'll give this a go thanks.

NOTE FOR ALL NEW HUNTERS THAT ARE DOUBTING THEMSELVES:

Please, I implore you: Force yourself through the second boss
Father G
. This is probably about 5-7 hours in for your first playthrough. It's about an hour in for your second, and 35 minutes for your third. You will get punished. You will yell at the game. It will seam cheap. You will be confused. You will have no idea if you're "doing it right."

You're SUPPOSED to feel all these things. You WILL and CAN make it. Many have. And I'm confident that many that doubt themselves then, will feel like the strongest hunter in Yharnham soon after.

Ok so I'm returning to this game after around two years and I'm still trying to overcome a certain boss. I considered doing a fresh playthrough because I had to get used to the controls again and I feel like I forgot the purpose of most items, but there's no way I'm going through some of the boss fights again lmao.

It's The One Reborn. The first thing I do is reach the second level and take out the six bell-ringing women. However, the projectile attacks from the boss take out most of my health and usually end up killing me before I get the chance to recuperate (how often have you heard that?). I tried to be patient with this one but I can't even figure out his range of attacks properly. I just know that I can avoid the projectile attack by running and rolling,,,? But I can't even do that properly.

I'm level 51 and I'm using a +7 saw spear. I'm comfortable with this weapon and I've never really experimented with anything else so far, except for a threaded cane. Any advice is appreciated!

I haven't checked a video yet, but I suppose I should. It can't be harder than some of the fights that I've already been through, but I'm annoyed by how quickly he takes me down. It's like I have to avoid 98% of his strikes to survive.

Was it the Cleric Beast? Took my 3 times but it wasn't too bad. Butt clenched at the end though. You just have to stay attacking his ass and that's it.

What makes the fight difficult is the camera and the enviroment. Just try and stay behind him and you'll be fine. Get some space when you need to heal.

If I want to get in on the sweet PVP now, what do I need to know? Is there a level range I should be at? A specific map where I should ring my bell or just sit and wait? I've got a few characters spread out across a wide range of levels.

I Wanna Be The Guy make sure to read item descriptions. I've been ignoring this kind of stuff for so many years, but Souls made me stop and actually bother reading them. They'll give you a lot of useful information.

Even if you don't care about the lore, there will be information on how to use the item you just picked up, and its gameplay purpose.

Hit Square when you have that item highlited on your inventory or equipment screen.

EDIT: Also, always exhaust NPC dialogue.

For 1v1 pvp your best bet is to ring in the Frontier and Mensis Middle. The range is 100-120 but you can be a bit above or below that and still find pvpers.

For regular random invasions you just gotta ring and pray. Agains your best bet is the areas with Maiden's but lower level character should be able to find co-opers now that the game is a bit more populated. I've had a few invasions in Old Yharnam and Central already.

Off-Topic: You can really, really tell FROM ran out of time for optimizing online play in this game, at least in the earlier levels. The framerate tanks when you have 3 cooperators and an invader but its much more noticable in early game areas than in late game.
