No, I'm in the US. And holy shit that is stupid given how evergreen Nintendo titles are. Imagine buying a Switch next year, buying Mario/Zelda/MK8/Splatoon but not actually able to get the already fucking meager rewards points for them.
its just dumb, one year for a continent and two for another makes no sense

i have a wopping 24 gold coins, lol

they are trying to make people buy digital so you cant trade them in to say gamestop...

i mean, i beat a game like mario, im trading it in for $40, sorry nintendo

gamers club - new games for $47, or nintendo digital, new games after you get your $3.00 in gold coins = $56 with no chance of trading it in.

ill stick to gamers club

So you only have like 2 physical games and that's it on switch?
MyNintendo is also not really a GCU replacement nor is it intended to be.
I guess if you're not interested in digital purchases then a digital rewards program is not really for you, lol

If I am understanding this right, that's 60 cents for a retail game that is $60 on the eShop. That is some real bull.

Another insulting tactic of Nintendo's, like many Wii U 1st party games still being full price.

So if I register one of my games and lend it over to another friend or sell it can those people register it to their accounts?

E shop cards can be found for 15% - 20% off and sometimes even more. I snagged a few from Walmart and Google Express for 30% off earlier this year.

It helps for the all-digital crowd. :)

I guess this is an improvement, but still such a disappointment compared to Club Nintendo. And I dislike that people who buy physical copies get less rewards like they're inferior customers or something. It's also laughable that this all expires within a year. Like, it's 5%. You'll have to buy 20 games in a year to get something of equivalent value. Physical buyers? lol

I have 1146 Gold Points. I can either use that to get Celeste for $11.46 cheaper or save way, way more money by going for the discounts.

For example:
  1. I spent 40 of those points to get the "just for you" 50% of discount on Earthbound for the 3DS.
  2. With that discount, Earthbound cost me only $5.49 (including taxes)
  3. That means, I spent 40 Gold Points (a nominal 40 cent value) to save $5.49
  4. That took me down to 1106 Gold Points but...
  5. ...I also got 25 more for purchasing Earthbound just now, putting me back up to 1131 Gold Points
Don't get me wrong, while I'd appreciate more stuff like the custom cover 3DS game cases that I got through Club Nintendo, this is still pretty good and a sight better than the big, fat nothing that my PS4 purchases get me.

So my 300 wish that I had gave me nothing, $3. But on my first $30 purchase I got way more coins, 130ish about half of my 300 coins. So at least going forward it will be more useful, since we get more coins

I'd be completely fine with 5% if the expiration was three years or something.

EDIT: Wait, this can be done like your Steam wallet, paying both with coins and regular currency right? You don't have to buy the whole game with the coins (otherwise it's ridiculous).

Yes, it'll use what coins you have and you pay the rest with regular cash.

Cheap, disgusting, greedy bullshit tactic by Nintendo. I have 400 gold coins and I've bought the folllwing games digitally since the Switch launched — Zelda, Mario Kart 8, Splatoon 2, Mario & Rabbids, Super Mario Odyssey.

So yeah. $4 off a fucking digital game. Yay.

Fuck.

That.

Noise.

Nice, ended up with $8.84 after all was said and done. Think I'll put that towards Hollow Knight when it comes out.

So you get 1/5 off whatever indie game you want and nothing was required of you. Truly, Nintendo are the devil.

The reduced rate for eShop titles bought before the program starts is kinda shitty. I got a lot of stuff rapid fire when I first got my Switch, all on the eShop. It's a digital purchase, why is it subject to a reduced rate? Not like it's hard to track the exact second I spent money on it.
Yes, this is the main problem I have with this program. Just update our gold coins to the new exchange rate, Nintendo. What a loyalty program! :P

You can use "Sony Rewards" which, when you link to your PlayStation account, earns you points when you purchase digital games (as well as other Sony products, obviously). I've earned a $10 certificate a few times. Nothing mind blowing, but it's there ;)

they needed this to be generous enough to really push customers to buy digitally. BUT! they can't have the average switch customer getting $40 in eshop credit for past purchases. that would be way too generous ..

solution? drop the value of the coins and just start giving out more of them

i ended up with $12, not bad i guess. especially combined with the ebay deal (which is live right now by the way)

So, I'll get points on 5%? I bought Bayo, used all my credits (~$8), then got another ~100 coins. Then bought bayo2, used those and got more.

I'm digital only for a long while. So this is good for me. I'll get 5% off going forward. On games I was definitely buying day 1. I'm cool with that. And I don't have to wait to use them. Just use whatever points on the next purchase. But if you want a better deal, waiting on most games to have a physical sale/price drop will probably be the best.

Yeah, I get that they didn't want a rush on people grabbing expensive games all at once. But it would've been nice to have a more moderate solution of some sort. Give me the full value with a delay of some sort implemented (spread the full rewards out over six months for example), rather than outright punishing me for buying games full price slightly too early.

Can anyone who changes regions regularly for game purchases confirm that coins are "locked" to that regions store? Or do all coins still go to the same pot?

Godbless Kimishima, Fils-Aimes, and most of all: Nintendo Co, Ltd.

Doing their part to shove the blade, impaling physical console games even deeper into the wound, twisting the blade triumphantly and drawing thick spurts of blood and salty tears from the hearts of those who own physical media around the world. I for one cannot help but shed a tear of joy at the sight of Nintendo, Sony, Microsoft and Valve all joining their hands in unison upon the hilt as they join spirits, minds and bodies to kill physical console games completely. Soon, only the Digital Master Race will remain!

Thanks to the gold points system, the Digital Master Race will earn 5 times as many discount points from digitally purchased games on the Nintendo eShop compared to the pathetic mortals who choose instead to buy physical cartridges. These when registered, earn a paltry sum of 60 points (in the United States) from physical purchases, whereas digital purchases of full priced games will earn 300, saving you $3 on the next digital game purchase. These points can even be combined with the various sales and discounts that now happen fairly frequently on the Switch eShop. Thus buy both saving money and earning points, there is plenty more incentive for consumers to completely abandon physical games outright.

Like any sane person, I've already bought a 200GB SD card and earned around 390 points from the various games I've bought on my Switch including Fire Emblem Warriors, Xenoblade Chronicles 2, Super Mario Odyssey, ARMS, Bayonetta 2, Pokken Tournament, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of The Wild, Mario + Rabbids: Kingdom Battle and others. And this was before March 5th when the new gold point system was implemented, the rates of point earning were much, much lower at this time.

Personally, despite having 12 games (8 of them full price) on my Switch, none of them are physical. And I intend to buy Kirby Star Warriors, No More Heroes: Travis Strikes Back, Donkey Kong: Tropical Freeze, Fire Emblem Switch, Pokemon Switch, Smash Switch, Metroid Prime 4, Bayonetta 3, Project Octopath, Hyrule Warriors, Captain Toad Treasure Tracker and other games ALL digitally!

Thank you Kimishima, Fil-Aimes and all the rest of Nintendo staff.

If all gold coins were also region free,I would have like 800.

But since it isn't, the country I have the most is Canada with 360.

I don't think this system will be that useful for me. I get bigger discounts changing region actually.

I for once am surprised. The fact that we get money going towards future purchases compared to other who give you nothing. I have been fully digital for 4 years now, mostly on ps4 and seeing what Nintendo did i feel is like an amazing step. What I'm surprised about is the amount of complains here, no one gave anything before and it was fine. Now we get an incentive and all those childish complainers are jumping out of the woodlands they spawned from. Just stop please.

I just bought Mutant Mudds on Switch while it was on sale and I only got 8 coins despite it saying I'd get 38. Wtf.

It's $7.50 btw.

Seriously I love this system but don't steal coins from me! :/
