but just more vanilla "hang out, give gifts and treat them well and you'll get somewhere with the ladies"

Thats not even what visual novels are about. Maybe the old dating sims in the 90s, but modern visual novels are really more like novels about whatever. You might have themes like romance, mech-action, life in an emperors palace, conquering the world etc.

in what world could a game that perpetuates the idea that women are brainless and can be fucked by anyone who wants to fuck them, be considered a good game?
Leisure Suit Larry? I haven't played this game and have only seen Dunkey's video on it (hardly an authority), but the responses given seem to be for comedic purposes and seem satirical in tone.

Oh boy. I actually dont agree with the game being taken off. Can it be considered creepy and dumb af? Sure. Is it harmful and offensive? Depends on how you see it, but I dont. I see it as a game you should not take seriously. Double standards in ERA and in general is mind boggling. You're all ok playing Erotic visual novels degrading females but if its not anime, then its super bad. If this game was drawn/anime style, would you feel the same way about it? I highly doubt it. Disappointing reactions.
This, let the consumer choose.

If you're against this then also ban all dating-sims, etc. Don't be a hypocrite.

And game looks so bad...

Some of the "correct" answers involve :

- Trying to find as many ways you can to touch women without their consent
- how you should definitively wait like a creepy dumbshit until your "mark" breaks up with her boyfriend so you can then pounce in. Like the dude literally tells you that you should keep up a fake friendship with the girl constantly using his "tricks" until he can go all in
- how to manipulate and lie to your long time friend to convince her to sleep with you
- constantly lie about yourself and your intentions

It's really not though. Look up the guy behind it. He's being as sincere as you can be with this stuff, his entire career is built on it.

I didn't see anything that I would call harassment in it, unless striking up a conversation with someone you don't know is considered harassment.
It's even scripted and the woman's body language still made it clear she was uncomfortable with the touching and several personal questions. You don't think having your face touched by a complete stranger is harassment? I was actually kind of shocked that it resulted in getting a phone number. I thought it would be a long dialogue chain leading to another fail state and Richard sitting on his hotel bed telling you "woah, ease up there dude." Real life scenario, at best, that would have been a fake phone number and she would have changed her route to the park.

But yes, approaching someone and starting a conversation with the sole purpose of getting laid can be considered harassment if it's an unwanted advance.

I mean, if it's meant to be serious then its laughable. I just didn't see anything particularly terrible about it. It's half 'watch a man humiliate himself' simulator and half 'this one simple trick really works, dating gurus will hate you!' nonsense. I didn't see anything that I would call harassment in it, unless striking up a conversation with someone you don't know is considered harassment. This opinion is based solely on what Dunkey showed, however.

Ultimately, whatever the motive behind the video, I didn't see anything offensive in the content, it was just daft.
The harassment part is the fact that it encourages men to go around trying to use these tactics IRL for as long as they succeed, aggressively, persistently. PUA tactics are less about it working on ANY woman and more about it working on SOME (small number of) women for whatever reason and using that as their ethos for mass harassment. The harassment part is the (not-even-all-that-)passive aggressive ways they advocate. By suggesting men go around touching random women a minute after striking a conversation with them using some flimsy excuse (you just want to have a look at their ear rings or get a look at that tattoo) and with the sole intent that it's supposed to increase the man's chances of getting laid.

Alright so the problem comes from the creator not the game. What you're saying is, if the creator, Richard, wasnt behind this game and/or there was any other random person, but with the exact same game, it would be ok? Or, if Richards intentions were for this to be a comedic pick-up game, would you be ok with that?

Sure...if his intentions were to make an absurdist commentary on PUA behavior and expose how predatory and creepy the correct answers are, I think everyone would be fine with that.

But those aren't his intentions. He's been making money for years selling books and running weekend bootcamps instructing lonely guys to pinpoint the weak points of women in order to, at best, trick them into sleeping with them and, at worse, giving a step by step guideline on how to harass women without them being able to make a scene in public.

This game isn't Kitawa Shoujo or Dream Daddy. It's meant to be a guide, not some sort of deconstruction.

It's like if Roman Polanski put out a guide on how to be a better father to teenage girls.

We should absolutely be censoring things that essentially try teach you how to essentially scam women into sleeping with you.

I'm fine with bad games being sold, but I'm all for censoring this particular example because it's about more than just being a potentially bad game.

I must say that you must have an extremely poor view of women if you think that this is even a thing.

At best this game teaches men how to pester women and at worst, how to sexually harass them.

Women are human beings with their own minds and volition to make decisions for themselves in situations like these. So saying this game "teaches men how to scam women into sleeping with them", implies women have no agency, which is obviously bullshit.

You replied to the wrong person there. I didn't imply any of that.
And no, having a different creator wouldn't make the congratulation of predatory tactics in this game any less horrible.

This is a game based on a system that systematically dehumanises women.

No thanks.

If you want a "funny" dating sim, go play Kitty Powers. At least that one isn't obviously setup as a game where the men are the ones in ultimate control.

I don't have the view of women, the people involved in the PUA community (like Richard LaRuina) are the ones that have that opinion. He, and many others, have made an absolute fortune on this idea and selling their guides to get around womens defences. I'm not implying women have no agency, the guy who made this game is. He's made a fortune on selling that idea.

Because as a society that's not an attitude we want to perpetuate. Would you be ok with Sony selling a game that promoted white supremacism?

So good we have you, a virtuous knight to judge us all and even decide for an entire society that we don't need these types of games!

Thank you kind sir for protecting me and countless others from this pure filth, derived from the sickest minds out there. Men wanting to impress women with their social bullshit pickup lines. How horrible and disgusting.

Like I said earlier in this thread, the game seems pretty stupid. Anyone taking this kind of shit serious has some issues obviously. People taking this wayy too serious ( our society should deem these types of games garbage and censoring should take place ) are really missing the point of this obviously stupid game.

Reminds me of the Tex Murphy games for some reason.

I really want to try this out, this could be a fun drinking game.

Seeing the possible answers, I'm not sure if the game is meant to be taken seriously though.

BiB: That's exactly the MO and USP of PUA advocates and people like the game creator.

That these methods work because they're programmed to not be able to resist men in the end, you just need to do the right things in order to do it.

It's horrible, dehumanising and wrong and we should not be encouraging games that push this theory, not least because of any free speech argument.

Stop with this disingenuous BS and defending scum of the Earth. PUAs are far worse than just using corny pick-up lines. It's about trying to lie and manipulate women into having sex with you. If only it was just corny pick-up lines, we could all die happy, but it's MRA/alt-right level BS. Trying to handwave it away as just "silly stuff" is horrible of you.

You literally don't understand what the PUA scene is. It's not just corny pickup lines, it's an entire industry that sells itself on the idea that women have no agency, and that any guy can programme a woman into fucking him. The point is not that it's a stupid game, but that it perpetuates the idea that women exist only to be fucked by anyone who wants to fuck them. It's a massive industry, people have made millions selling their 'guides' on how to trick women into sleeping with them. It's not pick up lines, they're selling the idea that women have no control over who they sleep with.

His company teaches weekend bootcamps in the UK, Italy, Brazil and United States.[17] The company has also released DVD and digital download products. His products incorporate some of his developments in the pick up artist field including The Three Characters of a Seduction, Stealth Attraction, and the Lifestyle Seduction model.
In 2007[3] La Ruina set up his own company, PUA Training[7] and trainers were used from his company on a Channel 4 documentary, First Cut: The Rules of Seduction[8][9] which documented the training of men in seducing women.

Do at least the most basic of google searches into who this man is and his involvement in the PUA scene before pretending like you know what you're talking about.

Stop choosing this hill to die on.

It's not "obviously" a stupid game. The creator is a PUA advocate and believes these methods work and makes not insignificant amounts of money doing so.

Just because you can't bear to realise the damage people like this cause and this isn't a joke, doesn't make it any less disgusting to anyone whose moral compass doesn't point to "will do anything for the lols".

Like, a detailed breakdown on how to realistically cause harm rather than, have gun, point gun, shoot?

Making fun of a guy who thinks that selling a game that's designed to teach people that women have no agency over who they sleep with (developed by a guy who has made millions of dollars selling the idea that women have no agency over who they sleep with) shouldn't be allowed. Great stance to be taking there.

And yes, I will absolutely negatively judge anyone who thinks that promoting these ideas should be allowed. Would you be ok with a game promoting the idea that white people are superior to black people? Or that gay people should succumb to the wills of straight people? Why are you ok with a game promoting the idea that men have ultimate control over a womans sexual actions?

What people get damaged by this? Do you have any stats or figures or are you just making baseless assumptions? I have no information about the pick up artist game, I don't need that shit. But if someone wants to start conversation with a woman to try and impress her, how he goes about it is up to the woman in question how she responds to that. If the guy is disrespectful throw a glass of water in his face and bail out. But I am not a woman so I can't talk for them.

You are the one saying women have no agency because they cannot decide for themselves if they want to engage in conversation with a guy. As if women don't have their own minds and decisions. Come on dude.

And well so great that you as a virtuous knight are judging people from your ivory tower.

One is forced to grapple with realistic situations like, "Would I offer my SteamID to a random woman I've just met? Would this make her romantically interested in me?" There's also the part where you enthusiastically want to go feed squirrels at the park.
To be fair, squirrels are very cute and it is enjoyable to feed them.
