Finished it. Some thoughts, no major spoilers, but talking about who is/isn't in the series, so I'm gonna spoiler anyway...

An interesting problem is that while JJ is an amazing character, this show suffers without both Luke and Kilgrave. The use of Kilgrave is clever and crucially isn't overused (and I love the nasty, lingering idea that 'he's always there' inside her that's left dangling), but it perhaps underlines that they shouldn't have killed him last year - or they needed to find a foil as good, which the villain - if you can call it that - isn't this year. Luke is better in JJ than he is in his own show, and his influence is definitely missed, though I'm guessing if they go to season 3 they're going to have to have him there (or bring JJ into LC season 3). Trish is the only other character who really shines, but they sure made some interesting choices there, geez.

You know I really am wondering now why they don't just make Netflix Marvel movies every year instead of these awful 13 episode shows? The writers are obviously straining to tell a coherent story over 13 hours, but I'm certain a 2 hour Marvel superhero movie is not only easier to write but would be as successful as the other Netflix exclusives like Bright, etc.

Because the division of Marvel that makes TV is different from the division that makes the movies, and the movie people seem to want to play in their own toybox without the TV people, which is why we're never gonna see these guys cameo in the MCU, basically. Netflix's deal presumably restricts them to TV shows.

Well it would be TV movies, Netflix exclusives like the current TV shows and not part of the MCU. All they'd be doing is shrinking down from 13 episodes to 2, essentially.

DO IT NETFLIX/MARVEL.

I mean, I love the idea, but contracts are rarely so flexible. Marvel also would surely want to avoid any confusion, and with Netflix now doing brand-new cinematic releases like Bright... well, is Bright a TV movie, or a movie? In terms of budget, cast, perception and marketing it's certainly a fully-fledged movie, right? So the line of what is a 'proper movie' is being blurred by the digital services... and what I'm saying is a Marvel Movie on Netflix would be broadly regarded as a Marvel Movie on Netflix, which would lead people to associate it directly with the MCU, and this is where the contracts seemingly get very restrictive. The MCU brand as a whole is obviously incredibly valuable to them and they want to keep that 'pure'.

Finished Episode 11.

Was one of the better episodes. Damn this is incredibly gooooood!

I'm definitely enjoying this more than Season 1, and Jessica Jones S2 is up there among the best MCU products. Not as good as Daredevil S1 and The Punisher S1 but it's up there.

There's so much great character work here, and I'm surely feeling for a lot of these characters.

worst fuckin season ever for a marvel show....finished the last episode just now...the only thing they managed to get out of me was pure cringe....1st season was much better than this garbage, this season..they didn't know what to with it..there's no true villain, no interesting subplots, nor fighting..well rarely. hopefully netflix sells JJ to Lifetime soon.
the only good parts were

Kilgrave scenes

Before watching S2, this was my ranking of Netflix Marvel shows:

01) The Punisher
02) Daredevil S2
03) Daredevil S1
04) Jessica Jones S1
05) Luke Cage

Did not and will not see Iron Fist or The Defenders. Just finished S2 of JJ, and I'd rank it #1, sliding The Punisher to the #2 spot. I think episode 8 was my favorite, because I feel like it encapsulates all that is best about "street level" Marvel productions.

I would watch this if it was 8-10 episodes. As it is, I really don't feel like wading through the filler. And I enjoy the character.

I did not think it was possible to despise a character more then Danny Rand but Trish is terrible at every level

Finished the first two episodes.

Big bunch of meh so far.

Watched the first two episodes myself and not feeling it either. Loved the first season, but there was motivation and depth to the downward spiral JJ was dealing with. Now it all feels forced and unconvincing. Tack on this mystery of her being a lab rat as some central plotline and ugh...

To be fair though, you can imagine I have the same reaction to your opinion of the show. I've just chosen not to comment on the negative kind of impressions since I've long known how such things goes in threads like these. I'm just glad that I've been enjoying it and had a good time. I'm sorry you didn't have as good a time as me, but maybe with some other show we can both have it good. :)

Preach. This is why I left the Arrow thread. Can't surround myself with hate when I'm enjoying it.

It's all fine. Now put on some good movies and share your impressions, cause they're good and I enjoy reading those over in the movie thread. :) man, I should probably clean up my apartment so I can get back to watching more films and shows too.

Dropped after 1 episode. I'm getting old, I don't have time for mediocrity. The problem with these disappointing seasons lies entirely with the showrunners who dictate the direction and tone of these shows, and whoever hired them in the first place. Daredevil was great because it didn't feel like a conventional TV show, it felt like a breath of fresh air and an attempt to transcend the medium. But everything since feels very stale TV-ish. Replace all the showrunners.
Daredevil S1 remains the only show that was endlessly gripping. No fat, all forward momentum.

Jessica Jones Season 1 was by far the best thing that Marvel had put on television. Season 2 is enjoyable, but the villain doesn't capture the same gritty insanity of Killgrave that make the show so great.

There really isn't a villain in S2. It's conflict is more internal to our characters.
Alisa was definitely a physical threat, but one that Jessica could never hope to defeat. Not just because Alisa was so much stronger, but because it was her mom. Or at least it sounded and looked like her mom. I'd argue her real mom died in the car crash. There wasn't any room for ambiguity with Kilgrave.

I appreciate that Jessica isn't used as a blunt instrument just because she's super strong. She's smart and cerebral.
Its great we didn't have the big boss battle at the end.

Agreed! Just finished ep 11 and loving it! I can see how certain people won't - it's a different kind of show than what we've been seeing, but it's definitely my cup of tea.

It's good to see a full recovery for Netflix Marvel after Iron Fist and Defenders shitted the bed.

I liked this season overall, but I found it emotionally exhausting. I don't really have anything to contribute that hasn't been said, but I will say I agree with Trish's decision at the end. Alisha murdered that cop and there is no defense for it. Jessica had snapped her out of whatever rage she was in, she was completely lucid and she fucking killed that cop. She had to be put down and Jessica couldn't do it. Trish made the tough call to save her best friend from herself.

They don't want to watch a TV show. An 8-hour TV show. That's their decision.

And yes, if they want to spend their time doing more important things (or even things they deem more important), they can.

You watch it until you decide you don't like it. You don't have to watch them all. No need to let the internet make your decisions for you.

This season was better than s1 for me. I enjoyed all of it.
-Trish going through all of her problem stemming from her having lack of powers getting addicted to Will's combat enhancer.
-I really like that she hooked up with Malcolm but didn't like that she fucked him over in the end as I legit wanted to see them as a couple
-I probably should of saw this coming maybe but I was legit shocked that Jessica killed someone again although it wasn't intentional just figured with how she reacted in the first episode when that lady brought it up. I won't be surprised though if it's brought up in s3
-Malcolm came a long way from how he was in the first half of the first season and was legit getting shit done.
-Trish killing Jessica's mom was definitely necessary even though it sucks because it appears that she was gonna turn herself in however it did work out for Jessica because she got to at least take credit for the kill and clear herself.
-That had to be the weakest hint at having power when the had Trish catch her phone with her foot. Literally anybody can do that if they get lucky lol
-Loved the episode in which Killgrave was in and he was hilarious as usual.
-Jeri's storyline allowed Turk to show up and that's okay by me
-The last episode was brilliantly done IMO and the feels were real after Trish killed Jessica's mom also episode 7 where we learn about a boyfriend she really loved and her reaction when she saw him dead was indeed heartbreaking and maybe it wasn't all Killgrave that lead her down this path
-Lol at Trish having a minor pop career.

All in all I enjoyed it a lot. What's the next the MCU netflix wing.

Not America
Series still has the best music and second best intro (DD is still the best) in Netflix+Marvel verse.

Regardless of how I felt about this season, the performance of each artist was top notch.
