I found a new snack subscription box to try this week. I don't need anymore random snacks right now, but how could I say no to a macaron box? I love macarons and I can't really find them around here. (They were really yummy btw- no regrets)

Also, I thought you ladies would get a kick out of this.

I came to this thread just now to post this. Watched it last night and was crying with laughter. There can't be enough fun made of people who believe this shit. And not only do they believe it, but they build their entire lives around it. This is (an extreme) example of why I really love gaming but will never go to something like a midnight launch, gaming meetup, or any of the informal meetups that happen at game stores around here. It must be amazing to have the freedom to go out and perform your hobby freely in public and engage with others in the community without feeling like you're literally hated and an invader. Ok, now I'm just getting wound up. Phew.

I love food subscription boxes but I can't justify the markups on them. I've rarely gotten anything that was worth paying extra for.

I get Tokyo treat but mainly because I miss japan a lot. I wish there were a more degashi focused box, but it still has some great picks and mybdaugjter loves the DIYs.

Anecdotal of course, but I've had way more positive experiences meeting up with gaming people in real life than online. Back in college I went to a gaming club and small conventions and everyone was super welcoming and nice. There were even a few other girls there too. I went to a midnight launch to get the N3DS and everyone was chill there (I think I was the only one there for the N3DS, everyone else was there for NBA 2K lol).

Honestly the biggest issue I have with meetups/gaming conventions is the BO. It's so bad it makes me wonder if any of them have ever heard of deodorant or cologne (it's the worst around Smash players for some reason?).

Just in my experience though, not saying it's the same everywhere.

Yeah ionno I never had problems going to midnight launches or expansion releases.

Then again I only did that for WoW and there are always tons of women so it wasn't a big deal.

I've had terrible experiences at midnight releases. Gross guys hitting on me, employees asking if I'm holding a spot for my boyfriend, guys questioning my taste in games, etc.

BO was always the worst thing I had to face with meetups, and I can't handle it. Most people were nice to me otherwise.

I worked at Game Stop in college and was forced to go. My boss took advantage of me being the only girl on staff to drive preorders and stuff so he'd make me work a bunch of midnight launches.

I had like...ten creepers at that job. One tried to lure me into a dark alley (I'm not kidding) because "his friend wanted to say hi and was too shy to in the open", one had no teeth and never bathed, a few awkward military guys, a deadbeat dad, etc. My boss would leave me up front with them and laughed as he watched me be uncomfortable from the monitor in the back room. I was 18-21.

Fuck that job. It made me really salty about being a girl in the gaming world.

I went to a midnight release when I was just a highschooler and met some dude from school and had a friendly convo.

He started stalking me around school and kept asking me out places :/ He was also constantly talking behind my back about me and asking my friends for pics. Later, since I was ignoring him he starting calling me an ungrateful bitch and such, per the course lol.

The worst is he knew I was a lesbian but thought if he persisted for four whole years I'd give in, yikes. Put me off midnight releases and talking to dudes about games unless I've known them a while too.

I worked at both EB games and gamestop, I had a few creepers/crushes that liked to talk to me but nothing too crazy, got a lot more hassle from other sources working for them. I had much, much worse interactions working night shifts at kinkos and 7-11. One guy told me in great detail some story about how he found out his wife was cheating on him with his boss. He'd come in every night to talk to me and finally I moved to days, and he came looking for me. Luckily during the day my coworkers could cover for me. I also had a cop hit on me and talk about how it was unsafe for me to work alone at night, and to give him a call if anything happened. He gave me his personal cell number on the back of his regular police business card.

I just learned at Aldi apparently antifa is starting a civil war today, lol.
Yeah lol, that's been circulating around right-wing media.

I think it's absolutely amazing how guys lose their shit when they see a girl in their nerdy circles. Awful, but amazing.

Like every time I go to a card shop to play Magic with my friends, I get like fifty dudes coming up to me to try to play / hit on me / whatever.

I started showing up in sweatpants so they'd leave me alone.

Oh man, some of these stories :/ I don't understand the logic of calling a girl an "ungrateful bitch" or whatever just because she doesn't want you. I mean, I get the "logic" but...seriously?

This kind of person doesn't ascribe any personhood to women. Women aren't also people, we're machines where if you gift/love/pay attention to us enough then you earn reciprocation.

Have been to a few midnight launches in the past, one for Pandaria expansion, one for Pokemon Black/White and another I can't remember off the top of my head but thankfully nothing ever awful happened and was pretty enjoyable for the most part with oogling stares and BO and the pokemon one in particular I was with one of my best guy friends so it was pretty fun. Likewise with the couple Anime Conventions I've been to though I never cosplayed either time so that might have played a factor in it. Plan on going to the local one this upcoming Late March since it's been a couple years since I last went and plan to cosplay for the first time so we shall see how that goes >_<

Not the exact same context but a couple months ago when I was grocery shopping a guy (about mid 40's I'd guess) walked by and said hello, I said hello back (I'm VERY soft spoken in person, partly my shyness, part anxiety, mostly it's just my voice) so I guess he didn't hear me and then he preceded to call me a "Bitch" because he thought I ignored him. Wasn't the first, probably wont be the last.

Fortunately at my new job we all kind of hate each other so we call each other bitch all the time and no one gets offended!

Regarding BO, there was one year I assigned this guy to help staff a client's booth at a convention. A few hours into the show, the client called and complained about his BO. We had to go out and buy spray deodorant and have him use it.

I also had a cop hit on me and talk about how it was unsafe for me to work alone at night, and to give him a call if anything happened. He gave me his personal cell number on the back of his regular police business card.
Wouldn't his work number, if you need him, just be 9-1-1?

911 is for emergencies only.

I guess I'm either lucky or super unattractive because I've never had issues at midnight releases or even the few times I stood in line for amiibos. People leave me alone and I ignore them. I've actually wanted to have someone assume I don't understand what I'm looking at so I can make them feel like an idiot. Maybe they can sense that?

That's why I tend to just try them for a box or two because, yeah, they are pricey for what they are. I like trying all the different things I wouldn't normally, tho. The only one I've kept for an extended period of time is my graze box because I really like the snacks and they're kinda unique overall (plus they're the perfect size to keep at work to have some healthy snacks on hand).

I have a serious case of resting bitch face so they don't even have to put in the effort of talking to me to decide that I'm stuck up.

I'm actually very friendly though :(

I'm staying at a house with a dozen guys for Blizzcon this weekend and one guy thought I hated him because I looked at him weird. I felt bad when I learned that.

Ok that sounds amazing! There's only a few places locally that have those and I love them.

Also hello everyone! Didn't know this was here but kierwynn told me this was where the cool ladies hangout.

I've very soft spoken too and most of my life I've had people tell me to speak up. I had a similar thing (although nothing really to do with gender but whatever) with one of my neighbours a few years ago. As I was walking to my house and he said "hey" and then I said "hey, you orite" or something, but he didn't hear me and then started muttering to himself something like "hey how are you? Hey, I'm orite, thank you!". I was like geez lol.

I feel if I talk any louder I'm just shouting, so meh.

I'm generally very bubbly/smiley when first meeting people to try to make a good first impression and it's misinterpreted a lot :( I do have a rbf when not actively talking though haha. So many of my friends thought I looked mean and quiet.

Pretty much what sabrina said, great explanation. In context, he had bought a PS4 and some games I liked so we'd have common ground and I was still shutting him down any time he'd try to talk. I guess he just felt shitty he spent so much money and I didn't magically like him, haha. Who spends hundreds of dollars on girls they've talked to like three times anyways??

Ok, this is intriguing. Are you doing this for work or as a fan? How do you know the people you're staying with? Do you all go to the con together? Are you comfortable giving a range of how old you are? I'm old and always looking to live vicariously through youngins. I wish there had been cons and such when I was in my 20s -- maybe I'd feel more comfortable participating in stuff like that. I follow a lot of really young (to me) game industry people on twitter, and I just love seeing their photos and reading about their incredibly cool lives. If I could rewind back to being 20 right now, my life would be SO DIFFERENT.

Oh, and RBF people unite!

Okay funny story. I don't really play Blizzard games but my brother's WoW guild was going and he invited me. I'm a very casual Overwatch player so I said sure because it sounded like fun. So I actually didn't know any of them besides me brother. (They all turned out to be fine, if very nerdy, people.)

We all went to the con together but since we were all interested in different things we were split up most of the con. I mainly watched the Overwatch tournament and a few interesting panels, but I will admit that I just had to buy some plushies even if I didn't play the games :V

I even did a random chance coin prize and won some stuff (the guy next to me was so salty about that xD) so I say overall I had a good time.

I'm 24 but the ages in the guild ranged from 18 to mid 30s.

I do work in the video game industry depending on how you define it. I have technically released a game.

Oh that reminds me I once was at a WoW midnight release and someone was trying to explain to me how the game worked (while my bf was right there).

He was really, really sweet and nice so I didn't give him any shit and acted like I was super interested/impressed, but I remember lol-ing about it with my then boyfriend after in a "oh yeah obviously I don't know how the game works right haha" way.

Hi Ladies!

Just a question for the general female RPG audience- do you guys get annoyed when a majority of the women in RPGs get referred to as "waifus"

The whole "waifu"/fanservice "culture" should be thrown out and burned with the flames of a thousand suns.

Oh that reminds me I once was at a WoW midnight release and someone was trying to explain to me how the game worked (while my bf was right there).

I remember I went to the Wrath of the Lich King midnight launch and felt out of place despite the fact I played WoW A LOT.

You're making game devs happy too. Physical copies have massive overhead to them compared to digital so more digital = more profit = we get to keep making more games. YAY! Also, don't ever buy used if supporting the devs is something you care about. It's basically the same as pirating since we get no money from used sales.

Regarding the treatment most (probably all?) women experience at the hands of dude gamers, FUCK. ALL. OF. IT. AND. ALL. OF. THEM. As well as anyone else who harasses anyone in gaming spaces. Y'all should be confident in the fact that these people are the enemy of game devs because their behavior results in less people playing our games on top of just being shitty people. We look down on them with disdain.

I'll never forget the time when I went to an event to play the first Assassin's Creed for the first time in London. Jade Raymond was there. A dude behind me in the line openly confessed his desire to break up with his girlfriend and kidnap Jade if he could. I had to give him a WTF stare but wish at the time I had challenged his rape-y creepiness.
