Thing is, it had a portable version. I don't recall, did we already have on Switch a port of a game that had a portable version, and if so, how did it perform? Maybe Switch ports of games that had a portable version will perform less well (at least in Japan)?

And before anyone says MK, that was MK7 on the 3DS, not MK8.
so a game that went console -> portable -> then switch.

DQH, but it was Vita and not 3DS.
Captain Toad will soon come, but that's simultaneous on 3ds and switch so it's different.
And DQ11

but of games that are out I just got DQH at the moment.

When I look at DB games like Xenoverse and FighterZ, I always wonder why Japan don't like DB as much as the west, then I look at the mobile chart. Yep DB is still kicking in Japan.

You mean just as games, right? Because with manga, anime and merchandise is actually way bigger with it's numbers.

Kirby is coming to kick asses and take names.

I'm really curious to see how he'll do FW and LTD in Switch

I think the Xenoverse games did very well in Japan honestly. FighterZ not as well in comparison, but I guess that's to be expected since it's a 2D fighter.

I think Xenoverse 3 on PS4/Switch could even do better than Xenoverse 2 PS4/Switch.

They did mediocre in Japan considering they came st the height of DBS anime popularity. WW it was phenomenal.

Xenoverse 2 was a decline from 1 WW so I expect a further decline with 3 WW. SW port won't save that.

Well one has to remember anime merch and manga aren't as receptive as products as they are in Japan.

Video games are hence why we see such large sales overseas.

Is it just me, or does it feel like VC isn't receiving all that much marketing? I didn't even see the demo on the PS store until I went to look for it ...

Somewhere. I think.
Since we were discussing it a few days ago following the Direct announcements, Nintendo is making some changes to Splatoon 2 to go with Rank X:

- from Ver. 3.0.0 onwards, new weapons will not be released on a weekly basis anymore. Instead, all the new weapons for a given month will be added at the same time, at the beginning of the month. This seemingly doesn't change the number of new weapons, just when they're added (so they're not slowing down support). Same for stages, they will still be roughly 1 stage per month, but now it will always be on the first day of each month
- basically, Rank X was designed so that players keep playing even after reaching the max rank, instead of focusing on just climbing ranks. Every month, there's a "reset", and players below a yet-to-be-defined threshold (presumably changing every month) will be demoted to S+9.
- more at the link (in Japanese, but I assume English post will come soon) > https://www.nintendo.co.jp/switch/aab6a/rank/index.html

I feel those are pretty important changes, clearly focused on the long term.

Don't think the new release schedule for maps/stages will change much sales-wise, but the focus on making sure players keep playing as long as possible definitely will have a positive impact. After all, the more people play a game, the more people are talking about it, streaming it, etc.. There's a reason multiplayer-foused games have much better legs than SP-only ones.

Wait, i don't understand. So every months, even if you reached the X rank and stay consistent you'll go back to the S+ rank anyway?

It might be true but your wording doesn't help at all, if anything it's just another of these poor baits that could make the topic worse.

You could just make you point without being passive agressive, here below an example

"I don't think it's related at all, looking at trends and past sales of various Dragon Ball entries accross systems this decade the age of DB games being million seller or even half that is long gone.
Switch might help to revigorate things, as XV2 late port sales showed us, but it's not some kind of messiah that will bring back the environment that allowed for such sales two decades ago.
So I feel like it's completely unrelated, we have enough reasons to praise the switch as is so there's no need to somehow bring back every single topic to it"

To seriously respond, I wasn't trying to claim Switch is a savior that is going to have console games reach mobile heights- I was making what I thought was an uncontroversial observation that Switch versions going forward will likely make the console games sell better, given Xenoverse 2's performance. I don't think that's really controversial, since the year old port is going to outsell the original version.

Hunh, well it'll be interesting to see how the My Hero Academia game will do in the West, it may get a boost from the superhero theme. That and it'll be interesting to see how the game turns out with the Gundam exvs team behind it
