Platform: PC Steam,GoG, Humble Store (PS4 and Xbox One - Early Access right now - will release later in February 2019)
Genre: Singleplayer RPG action-stealth adventure

About this game:

Ghost of a Tale is an action-RPG game in which you play as Tilo, a mouse and minstrel caught up in a perilous adventure. The game takes place in a medieval world populated only by animals, and puts an emphasis on immersion and exploration. It features stealth elements, disguises, conversations with allies and enemies, and quests.

You'll be able to explore the secrets of Dwindling Heights Keep and navigate its dangers. Tilo is not much of a fighter, so stealth and nimbleness are your allies when confronted with enemies twice your size. Talk to the characters you meet and leave no stone unturned in your quest to find Merra, your true love….

About the team:

Ghost of a Tale is developed by a very small team. Lionel "Seith" Gallat (Dreamworks animator) does 90% of the art, design and coding. Paul Gardner is the game's writer and an experienced game designer. Cyrille Paulhiac does coding and develops tools. Jeremiah Pena is the game's composer, while Nicolas Titeux is responsible for sound design. Jerome Jacinto (Tooth and Tail, Armello) takes care of the 2D game art.

Some characters:

pkdbtd.jpg

TILO

We are Tilo, a minstrel mouse who ended in prison along his wife Merra because she commit sedition. We must find our wife and escape from the Keep's Prison.

jurfcn.jpg

KEROLD

This Pirate Frog will be the very first character we'll be able to speak to. At first he's a bit grumpy and won't help us too much. But maybe he can help us more in the future...

oykzom.jpg

ROLO

This blacksmith will help us finding items and giving us clues about what to do. Unfortunately he's a greedy rat and its valuable information will require some florins in his pocket...

swggqu.jpg

GUSTO & FATALE

These two mice will be our way to get out of the Keep. We'll have to assist them in some tasks so the prison break can be successful. TRIVIA: GUSTO and FATALE names are very similar to the game title "GHOST OF A TALE".

Thanks for putting the thread together. Looks great!

I'll be waiting on the final console release but very interested to hear PC impressions in the meantime.

Really liking this so far. It has some charming design decisions that have really surprised me. Like the footnotes during dialogue (similar to Pyre but more in depth). There's a surprising amount of world building, actually, that I wasn't expecting. Game looks beautiful, too! Too early in to comment on the gameplay though.

Game is delightful. I love the interactions with everything... picking up bugs, climbing on stools to get places, going through drawers/desks .... Also the npc's have surprisingly large amount of dialog options, some neat little moments hidden in some of them.

I'll mirror what Dancrane212 said.

Glad to see this get an OT, and nice job, but I'm probably gonna wait for the PS4 version.

Curious to see how the end product reviews and what people think of it.

I spoke with the developer on his site and we talked about the Xbox and PS4 versions. It will release a little later because he wants to make sure the game can be as good as possible on the two platforms. Hoping for X and Pro support.

Bought this a while ago in EA because it looked fantastic, guess it's time to check it out.

It looks really good. The stealth focus kills it for me though. I'd rather it had melee sword-based combat.

I love how... in character everything feels, like having to hide into closets and stuff to be able to save.
Also Chromatic Aberration in here must be used really subtlety because it hasn't annoyed me at all so far (good that it can be easily turned off anyways).

Just started downloading a 500MB patch, I wonder what it fixes.

I picked this up in the christmas steam sale, played for an hour, thought it was great, and decided to hold off playing anymore til the full release. Looking forward to trying it out, even in EA it was one fo the most charming titles ive come across

I'm in whenever they get around to releasing the console versions. Been interested from the time I first laid eyes on this, what, 5-7 years ago by this point?

Still undecided, waiting on some reviews, as it looks good but the gameplay feels extremely below average from the videos even though I love the stealth genre(I'm very critical of stealth gameplay).

Holy shit, this is the "mouse game" I forgot about because I´ve mistaken "Moss" for this.
Thanks for the OT! Going to pick this up today.

Played a little. Seems awesome. Very polished. Very adventure game style in the initial parts at least. Can't wait to play more. Also controls great with the mouse & keyboard though I'll probably switch to a gamepad (if that works great too).

Anyone else was scared to open the screaming gate thinking it'd wake the guard up and trying to figure out how to first lure him away (and failing, you can't do much at that point)? Lol, it doesn't, it's just a gate, doh.

Almost hit the buy button but wanted to ask you all first what is the gameplay like? Is it full stealth? Action adventure? What type of gamer will enjoy this game??

It's essentially an adventure, with stealth as main mean to move around. It's all about finding items required to accomplish specific goals, talking to characters, gathering parts for new outfits and unlocking new areas.

Seems a shame that there are no official reviews yet - weren't any review copies sent out? Or did it go from Early Access to Release so fast that the main gaming sites simply haven't yet had a chance to review the final release yet?

I was waiting for this game to get out of early access. I've enjoyed the little I've played so far. I did notice one bug where I opened a chest with hornets in it, then after reloading my save the hornets remained on screen.

Overall, the performed is pretty good. Seems to be running 60 FPS at 4K on my 4790k/1080 TI build.

Played it for 3h now and it's absolutely gorgeous. I also really like the fact that you don't get any quest markers or anything and have to figure it out on your own.

How "linear" is it ? Is it an open world actually ?

I played about 3 hours and so far it`s more open level, like Resident Evil 1 and 7.
The game is brilliant btw. I`m surprised by the good writing and quite deep lore.

This looks absolutely incredible. Holy crap! I think I remember seeing this a few years ago but it completely fell off my radar. Hoping the console port is good. This is 100% my jam.

I wish this game was getting a LOT more attention in the media, it really deserves to be high profile.

I backed this!

Playing the final version, I really love the character designs. Tons of personality in the animations too.

It's a shame that they couldn't afford voice acting ,because some characters like the pirate frog and the two thieves mice would probably sound absolutely hilarious if handled by a good actor.

Their writing is excellent.
