Hopefully but I doubt it. If you're still on 11.1.2 or lower you can jailbreak and install a tweak that does this. It will unlock automatically unless you have notifications or there is media playing.
Is that actually true about JB up to ios 11.1? I'm on 10.3.3 still on a 6 and I've been checking every couple of months and read they still can't even JB past that yet

I can't deal with my 5s anymore. It's so fucking slow and laggy, and the battery is a mess. Whenever I leave the house, I have to put it into power saving mode. And if I intend to actually use it, I have to take a charger with me anyway. It drains like crazy. And I'm talking exclusively about normal usage, no videos or gaming or anything like that.

The thing is, I originally planned to wait for the successor to the X to they could iron out some kinks. But I can't keep my 5s yet another six months. I'm just sick of it. So..
1) I could get the X now and the X2 in Fall. No, I'm not gonna spend that much money.
2) I could get a different model now (6, 7, 8) and the X2 in Fall. Well, it's still a lot of money.. not sure about that.
3) I could get the X now and skip the X2.
4) Android.

I'm tending towards option 3, but I'm gonna be really pissed if the X2 turns out to be vastly improved in some way (e.g. Face ID). Anyone in the same boat?
I have an iPhone X. I'd say either:

1) Get an X now
2) Get an X and sell it for an XI
3) Get a OnePlus 6 which will basically be an iPhone X Plus on Android for much lower cost. Probably better if you're not tied to the Apple ecosystem.

If it doesn't have a notch, the 2019 iPhone is the one to wait for, not the 2018 one, which is more of a stop-gap.

Wonder if I'm screwed cause I never updated to early 11. I'll check the Reddit. Thanks I always forget about it and just check redsn0w and a couple other blogs that don't do other people's jailbreaks

The 10.3.3 JB (Saigon) isn't bad though and has Cydia installed. You could get most iOS 11 features via tiny tweaks anyway.

I'm looking forward to this. I've always wanted a notification light like the one I had on BB and Android.

Should work great on OLED screens. Although I would have preferred the other design I saw of the colors around the notch.

Unless they can hide the entire FaceID/front camera apparatus behind the display without impacting its speed and accuracy (which I *highly* doubt), I'd rather they keep the notch and pack more and better sensor technology into it. Faster and more accurate FaceID > hidden-behind-the-screen-but-same-capabilities FaceID.

So 11.3 beta 6 has vastly improved RAM management on my X. Time will tell to what extent, but just cycling through a handful of apps shows a night and day difference for me so far.

I've got the silver one. Looks closer to the space gray of old. It would be the first iPhone which I would pick up with a red or blue back considering the face is black. That always bothered me about the colored versions.

I tried an app that does that with my current Android phone (a Motorola with no notification led), but even with the OLED screen it drained the battery and made the phone super hot when I got up in the morning.

Not saying a better version of it couldn't work, and it would probably work better if I had been rooted, but eventually I just got used to not having an LED, which will make my eventual transition to an iPhone X (or X2) a bit easier.

This screen is picking up scratches at an incredible rate. And I'm someone who is generally very careful and rarely gets screens scratched much over their lifetimes. For the price the lamination feels pretty damn poor.

Yup. I didn't use a screen protector for 3 years on my 6 and barely had any scratches. The X has visible (but not deep) scratches fr the first month.

Most screen protectors suck because they don't cover the whole screen and the edge is visible on the screen. That being said, there's a few full screen protectors that go to the edge, mostly by no name brands.

Spigen recently released it and I just bought it to replace my last one that cracked. They're really hard to put on perfectly though.

I think I'm gonna grab the space gray model. The stainless steel band of the silver one is ugly as hell. Then again, neither model looks particularly hot, especially compared to my beautiful 5s. So for the first time ever, I'm gonna buy a case too. Any recommendations? I'm looking for something minimalistic. Single color. Black, white, or red. Dunno about the material. I'm browsing both Amazon and this thread at the moment.

edit: After watching a few comparison videos, I still can't decide on the color. I'm gonna have to take another look at the store. Damnit.

If you're going to put it in a case it barely matters. I remember going crazy deciding the color, and nowadays, even though I'm happy with the Space Grey, I both don't care nor do I get to see it often.

Apple silicone case is the bomb, exactly in the style you're looking for. I have both the Apple leather case in saddle brown and the silicone case in white, but I can't take it out of the silicone case! Other colors for it look fantastic too. But white gives it that lovely panda or storm trooper black and white combo look.

Prior to getting it I was thinking the silicone wasn't a worthy material for a phone like the iPhone X, but I got intrigued by a youtube video that shown them so I pulled the trigger and haven't looked back since. Would probably trade my leather case for another silicone case color.

I was using the Apple leather case since launch but really wanted to see white color on the back. So last week or so I got the clear case from Caudabe.

Really like it. Much slimmer and the color back is awesome to see.

That's true, but still..
And I can't decide on the color of the case either. I'm considering getting the space grey phone and the white silicone case, but the black and red cases look pretty sweet too. I'm gonna head to the store tomorrow after work to compare them.

edit: The Spigen Ultra Hybrid case looks pretty slick. I'm thinking space grey + red case or silver + black case.

edit 2: On my way home from the Apple Store. I spent half an hour comparing the two and still wasn't able to choose one. Sigh.

edit 3: Space Grey. I just ordered it.

I'm happy with my silver. Stands out, more uniquely Apple as Steve Jobs wanted all iPhones to be white, and nice stainless steel borders.

The phone arrived. This time, I think I'm gonna set it up from scratch instead of restoring my backup. Can't hurt to start from a clean slate after so many years. It shouldn't take too long, I hope. Most of my apps are cloud-based, but not all of them.

edit: No, wait a minute. I would lose my text messages, wouldn't I? Damn..

Install the public beta for 11.3 and use iMessage iCloud sync to backup and restore your messages. It does iMessages and sms.

So, installing the beta on my current 5s, syncing my messages (and hoping it actually works), waiting for the final release of 11.3 and then updating my X, right? (I'd rather not install a beta on my brand-new device right on the first day)

That could work. I do know that messages merge so any new messages on your X will probably be sync'd once you update to 11.3.
Do you have any other iOS or macOS devices? You can check if your messages sync'd through one of those or go to iCloud.com and check your storage, Messages should be pretty big if it worked.

11.3 is pretty stable at this point so you probably wouldn't have any issues installing it on your 10. You can always downgrade if you do have issues.

Hm, I can see the messages when I check the storage from my phone, but not on iCloud.com.

Vellum Wallpapers. Oh my god. Just gorgeous.

I wish iOS had a feature to periodically change the wallpaper, just like macOS.

Huh. Background App Refresh stopped working today. For instance, I don't get notified of new WhatsApp messages until I open the app. Likewise, if I read the message on my computer after having opened the app on my phone, the Unread badge doesn't disappear. It's the same for Telegram and Skype.
Background App Refresh is enabled for both WiFi and cellular data and Power Saving Mode is off. Strange.

Very strange. Push notifications should still work with background app refresh totally disabled since they run off their own service

I don't believe background refresh has anything to do with push notifications. Apps that don't support background refresh at all still get notifications as far as I'm concerned.

I had a suspicion, and it was just confirmed: I got the phone on Friday, set it up at home in the evening and spent the biggest part of the weekend at home. Push notifications were working all the time. Today at work - where I don't use WiFi - they didn't. I just arrived at home, and when my phone connected to my WiFi, a bunch of notifications suddenly arrived. So the issue is that I don't receive push notifications when I'm using cellular data. Weird.

edit: It seems restarting the phone might have fixed it.

Thanks, I wasn't aware of that.

I bought the X thinking the X Plus would be much more expensive, if it turns out to be $999 I'll be kind of annoyed.

Based on current rumors that would appear to be the case. Just the curse of being an early adopter. By overpaying in the first year you make it more affordable for those who follow.
