continuing to progress and I've opened a few shortcuts in old yharnam. the level design and environments continue to impress. like, damn. I've played through a good bit of both dark souls and dark souls 3 and there's just something about bloodborne. and the vibes. this game can be straight up frightening. where dark souls seemed to have this overwhelming sense of dread and melancholy bloodborne is frighteningly tense. upgraded my axe to the point where it needs twin blood stone shards and bought the kirkhammer and upgraded it twice. been leveling vitality, dex, and strength mostly.

loving it. even though this game is a from software ass from software game I was not prepared for how much I'm loving it

defiled amy is a fucking bitch

I was stuck on this asshole for over an hour yesterday. Focusing on his two front arms and not his head is what worked for me. Kept strafing either left or right to bait him to do this move where he drops his two front arms to the ground. They will stay there for a few seconds, enough time for a few hits to land. At around 30 percent health when he breaks his two back arms, I just stayed underneath him and focused on the legs lol. He kept trying to stomp me but he's so damn slow. Just don't panic roll when he jumps up.

A huge reccomendation over the normal wikis that pop up: http://www.bloodborne-wiki.com/p/index.html

This is honestly the most respectful and passionate wiki I've ever seen for a game and has way more neat stuff than a normal wiki would, it's amazing. (Even has an entire section dedicated to distant landmarks seen from different areas)

Circle the small spiders and they are no problem. However in the second phase with all the meteorites it gets tough to clear out the small spiders first.

Just met Ludwig for he first. Time. Nope.

Thanks! I managed to get the boss down to 25% without killing the small spiders but then it got out of hand, so I take it I'll need to kill them. The NPC is super helpful.

I have to try and listen if there is an audio que for the meteorites since the camera is all over the place

I don't think you should bother with killing the spiders besides the first part where Rom is passive, with a summon I feel the spiders are going to be distracted enough

When Rom raises her body, the meteors fall from the sky, and when she rolls over and faces upwards, the meteors rise from the ground. Roll towards her when they fall from the sky, and away from her when they rise from the ground. Although when she raises both her head and rear, it means she's going to do an AoE attack, so roll away from her when that happens as well. Controlling the camera manually is much better than not keeping lock on, if you're using it.

I find the fight easier after taking care of the small spiders, but whether ignoring them or killing them makes it easier is up to you.

Anyone available to play the first part of the DLC with me? Still need the gattling gun and seif before killing Ludwig.

Level 81 right at the start of the map.

Nvm now stuck in the cathedral thereafter.

Yeah I'm going through another play through right now and it's been pretty easy breezy until that fuck. I knew it was coming too. There hasn't been a play through where I don't get stuck on that guy.

For the first time in all of Soulsdom I feel bad about summoning to kill a boss- the Lady of the Watchtower. She's just too damn elegant, I now actually regret having a friend help me wreck her. That second phase was giving me so much frustration! I just wanted to see what else lies in the DLC 70+ hours into the game.

Alas, I now actually feel bad about co-oping her. That's what NG is for though!!

Forbidden Forest made me feel like a rat in a maze. I actually got lost multiple times. At least Tonitrus made the place a bit more bearable.

Forbidden Woods I remember annoying me a lot on my first playthrough, mainly because I was still getting used to the game and then I was handed this rather large and dense level to get through, as well as all of the poison and snakes. Now, it's definitely one of my favorite areas and one I almost always look forward to with a new hunter.

So I finally managed to kill that Father G character. I don't know how many times I had the fucker down to 10% or lower and still ended up dead. phase 1 and 2 of the fight I got a good enough handle on, but phase 3 was just too hectic, and I kept getting stuck on the environment, and could hardly if ever get a parry in. Seriously, that encounter had me fuming... Ended up dying on the attempt I killed him anyway, but at least I won't have to do that fight ever again.

Thanks for the pointers in this thread, I ended up farming blood stones to upgrade the saw blade to +3 too, I'm sure that helped with the last few % of the fuckers HP...

I will take this one moment to pile on to a poster's self-shaming about the game's difficulty! SHAME ON YOU! Maria is a legit top 5 boss in the entire Soulsborne series, and one of video games' best bosses.Just about everything about her is done perfectly. Her look, moveset, combat phases, arena, intro, dialogue, lore, and by god that music, are all sublime. Personally, I find her difficulty is just fine-tuned so that it was never frustrating to fight her. You don't have to be a total Souls badass to get into a groove to destroy her, but it's also very easy to slip up against her and get totally owned. It never feels like a battle of attrition, and she doesn't have one-shot attacks that aren't telegraphed or require superb timing to avoid.

Having more than one player in that fight really kills the tension, especially since she's very easy to stunlock.

I love-hated The Forbidden Woods the first go around! I think it's the only Souls level that From actually conveys the feeling of being lost in the woods. Darkoot Garden is a lot of narrow corridors and flat expenses. Shaded Woods is video game-y af. The part of Road of Sacrifices before it turns into a swamp isn't very dense either. Forbidden Woods is just great to get lost in the first couple times through. I don't get the feeling anymore because I've ran through it so many times already, but I still appreciate how sprawling and complex its layout is.

Decided to start going through the Chalice Dungeons as I never have before, despite beating the game a few times. I just beat Watchdog of the Old Lords for the second time there and had no issues with it at all, despite others saying it's a tough fight. There is definitely some hitbox issues though.

That's the Defiled version for the second mandatory time, yeah? If so, good job! That half-health handicap frustrates a lot of players. If you don't have your Vitality leveled up adequately, it's very easy to get two-shotted. Its running charge attack is also pretty much a one-hit kill.

I also didn't have that hard a time with it when I was going for the platinum, but it really helped that I watched Brad Shoemaker from Giant Bomb bang his head against it for hours before I got to it. Haha. The last boss for that Defiled dungeon though! That one was more of a struggle.

I co-oped the bosses the first time around through the DLC when it came out. Now I'm trying to beat them solo. So glad the lamps are super close to the bosses and thank god you can get 5 blood vials super easy in front of the the accursed horse guy. It took me quite a few tries but by the end I was dodging and weaving through the first phase pretty smoothly. I couldn't figure out how to dodge that giant arcane cone of fire. He does an AoE blast then just coats an area in damage. If you get caught in it I don't think there's an escape. After a couple times I was like wait I can just haul ass like a mother and get around him and he's open for like five hours. The key was to not try to dodge through it will quicksteps but just to run balls out around him. He does a little bit of tracking as he casts it but once it's down he's stuck and ready to take damage. Second phase is a hell of a lot easier than first. Living Failures I just called the NPC hunter because I had already done it solo and it's an easy fight. Definitely wanted to fight Clock lady solo this time around. You feel bad in co-op because you just demolish the fight but solo it's like a proper duel and feels great. Now trying to beat OoK. Might make a save state so I don't have to farm blood vials all the time because this dude hits like a truck. I'm going to be so over-leveled for the last bosses of the main game.

I almost got OoK my first time then my brother came over to give me muffled advice through my headphones which did not help. Maybe I messed up but I will blame him.

Old Yharnam is really stressing me out. What a horrendous place. Doesn't help that the first shortcut takes you directly through a kill zone with a Gatling gun and a hunter. Ugh.

Use your cloud storage to make a save in cyberspace, for example right in front of a boss room. When you want to give it another go you can use that save to overwrite the current one locally stored one. Here's one way to do it. Speed runners and similar type players will use it to practice bosses while preserving the resources they have collected. It's not super necessary because you can just do a run through Yharnam and get a million vials but sometimes you just don't feel like walking. I wouldn't do it if you want the purest experience because it allows you to play fast and loose with limited resources in certain areas like fire paper.

Yeah I'm sure it dilutes the experience but honestly I'm hardly ever motivated to do the boss runs more than a few times, so this might actually get me to play the game longer before getting annoyed and dropping it.

You're clearly circumventing the game's design that way, but if it keeps you playing and you're having fun, more power to you!

And I'm not really one to talk, since I used save states to see all the endings for Bloodborne and Dark Souls III one after the other! The only thing that eases my dumb conscience about doing that is I legit beat both games multiple times afterwards with different characters and NG+ cycles.

So I'm hearing the DLC bosses are crazy strong on NG+. My bloodlevel is stupid high (like 165+) can i still summon?

You can, but you might be waiting a while to get help naturally. What you can do is set a password and drop it here in this thread so you can get help from us! Level range doesn't matter if people use passwords.

If it's a "time back to boss" kind of thing. It probably takes longer to load the save state than to sprint back to the boss in most cases. Like I said before if it's not a quick sprint back, look for a shortcut. If it's to preserve blood vials then do it lol. After playing DS I like the estus system more.

Finally beat Loran Darkbeast in Lower Loran Chalice the other night. Still baffled that this shithead gave me this much trouble, I've already run through the entirety of the dungeons once before. Aaaaanyway...what a horror this thing turned out to be. The only way I was able to even start doing some damage was with the lock-on completely off and even then I felt like I was fighting the camera more than the actual boss. I'm definitely not one to blame cameras and so on for my own shortcomings, but yeah, this was definitely the fucking camera.

I think it might be the easiest of all the Souls games - I forgot to make a back-up save before eating the youknowwhats - which is a stupid mistake, so I have to go in to NG+ to get the final trophy on this playthrough, otherwise I would've got them all just through regular play in NG, except the weapon one, you need Gerhman's weapon.

No jumping through hoops or needing multiple boss souls like the other games.

It's a few things:
- Sure the run back is quick, but often I'm having to dodge attacks on the way. I got flattened by the Cathedral Ward giant on the stairs whenever I ran up to Amelia, causing me to waste a vial. I don't need that. Just put me back in front of the boss fog and let me try again
- I'm too worried to use consumables because what if this isn't the winning attempt? Then I just lost those items and have to grind them again. I'd rather not waste my time doing that
- Once I feel like my time is being wasted, I'm more likely to summon help than attempt the fight solo. I ended up summoning help for Amelia and we destroyed her in 30 seconds flat. It wasn't fun

I know myself, and I know I'll enjoy the game more with save states than without. So it's nice that I have the option!

Despite being decently knowledgeable about everything in the base game and DLC, i have no understanding how Chalice Dungeons work. How do you do Fetd/Rotten/Cursed? I did the Isz Chalice you get from the late game boss, but it gave me no option for rites? And when I did have an option for a rite before, it only let me do Fetid, and not the other two.

Me either. I suppose the easiest thing to do would be to go through each one, while collecting whatever items you need to, and just proceed like that? I don't know why understanding how they work is so hard for me to grasp lol.

Yeah if the save states save some frustration then go for it. I think co-op can trivialize the game too much like what you experienced. But all said, it's your playtime so don't let anyone tell you how to play. In the end all these things are just tools to use, abuse, or ignore.

TIL you can destroy treasure chests.

I'm in a Lower Loran Root dungeon and there's a small square room with two entrances - one is a 'does not open from this side' door and the other is blocked by a large treasure chest (the type with a rounded lid that you push off) - In the room are a smaller chest and a bunch of enemies including one of those bell ringers that attract the attention of others - I can't get in the room, so I just hack away from behind the chest at the enemies and I end up destroying the chest, thankfully this isn't DS2 and you can still pick up the item. You live and learn!
