I saw Umbrella Corps amongst the games on sale the other day, but I don't think I'd buy it even if it were a penny. :P

For those who have yet to see it, I translated the story pamphlet for the new Samurai Edge "Albert-01" airsoft gun. It delves deep into the background story of BIO7 that will be visited in Not A Hero.

• SAVED IN A PINCH, THE HERO'S IDENTITY!
"Ethan! Use it!!"
A voice was heard clearly even amid the roaring rotors of the helicopter flying in the sky.
The voice belonged to Chris Redfield.

A man embodying an invincible hero undaunted by any foe, and through many crises has stuck to "justice" under any situation.
He's a savior always coming to the rescue of those in grave danger.

He pointed to "it", the beyond lethal steel buddy that's been with Chris through a great number of ordeals, forever its master's fangs, the Samurai Edge.
A light adapter module and hexagon silencer have been attached to its configuration and it's more than a mere handgun. The base has a familiar form...
but something's definitely different...

Since Ethan was in a critical condition desperately clinging to life, he had no room to think about it. The chunky handgun showed extraordinary potential, giving Ethan the prize of "living", standing against all odds in his desire to hang on.

Breathing a sigh of relief, Chris Redfield leaned forward and watched from the helicopter above, the body glistening with a "blue Umbrella logo."
He was staring at Ethan who'd successfully "lived", as if reflecting his own younger days.

June 1998. If that damned "Mansion Incident" hadn't occurred, what would my life be like now?
Would I still be with Alpha Team of Raccoon City's special S.T.A.R.S., division; perhaps earnestly protecting Raccoon City 24/7?
Perhaps there would've been a future where I died when seriously injured in the Republic of Edonia...
Or worse, might I have lived the life of an amnesiac alcoholic if I hadn't met the late Piers?

He was possessed by sentiment in a silence lasting only a few seconds.
Only someone involved could understand the pain and sorrow. He cut off such sentiments and accomplished his mission again.

In his hand is his steel buddy, the Samurai Edge...

• UMBRELLA CO. OUTLINE
A large conglomerate with a pharmaceutical company as the parent organization. Although it was a corporation better known as a pharmaceutical company with a proven track record in genome analysis and antiviral drugs, it also conducted Bio Organic Weapons (B.O.W.) research and development for use in battle. The origin of its name is the company's motto "protecting the health of the people." The Raccoon City Incident occurred due to the t-Virus and its underlying demeanor, developed as a means of creating immortal soldiers, is a well-known fact from many reports.
Afterwards, it was held responsible for the Raccoon City Incident-- its stock prices plummeted, sinking into a chronic budget deficit. Furthermore its illegal biological weapons development was exposed to the world through physical evidence and survivor testimonies. As a result, all the chief executives were accused of bearing responsibility for the incident and it began going under, entering bankruptcy in 2003.
Following that, it was rehabilitated via application of Chapter 11 reorganization, but the new management has been charged with responsibility for redeeming its dark legacy.
Since the company's trademark was changed following rehabilitation, "Red Umbrella" commonly refers to pre-rehab and "Blue Umbrella" refers to post-rehab.

• WHAT IS THE "SAMURAI EDGE"?
Raccoon City Special Tactics and Rescue Service = S.T.A.R.S.
It refers to all custom handguns maximizing the combat ability of each officer produced by Joe Kendo, the older brother of Robert Kendo who runs the custom gun shop "KENDO."
The base gun is the M92F adopted as standard by the U.S. military.

The name "Samurai Edge" comes from its characteristic slide shape.
A shape was adopted called the "Brigadier style" that makes the slide lock part wider so that it can withstand strong overpressure ammunition which "gives a remarkable weight to the gun body" and can only be used with this slide. It's made of stainless steel which, combined with a wrought high-precision barrel, creates a vivid dual tone.
The matte black slide with an acute silhouette and "the blade of a Japanese sword", the origin of the Samurai Edge's name, is reminiscent of combined barrels giving it a dull metallic luster.

Before S.T.A.R.S. adopted this Samurai Edge it was applied in experiments by S.T.A.R.S. acting Captain Albert Wesker, Barry Burton; a former S.W.A.T. member with countless experience and extensive firearms knowledge, Jill Valentine with her superior bomb disposal skills in addition to combat ability, and the team's best marksman Chris Redfield. In the tests it cleared various checks with high scores and was adopted and provided to S.T.A.R.S. officers. It's called the "Samurai Edge Standard Model" and on the left side of the slide is a carved seal of "S.T.A.R.S." and on the right is a carved seal of "Mod.SAMURAI EDGE LAW ENFORCEMENT USE ONLY."

The special specifications of the "Samurai Edge Standard Model" include performance far surpassing the M92F, but of the four who tested it the harsh opinion of "basic = average" also popped up with the assumption of Special Forces use, and following adoption, they requested Joe to add customizations individually. Special customs factoring in gender, physique, habits and technical prowess later appeared in the news media and became a big talking point.

• FURTHER CUSTOMIZED "SAMURAI EDGE"
The Samurai Edge Standard Model was a basic model (still wonderfully custom-made) and based on it Joe Kendo adjusted four of them together for individuals, producing the "Chris Redfield Model", "Jill Valentine Model", "Barry Burton Model" and "Albert Wesker Model." The letters "Custom Kendo Shop" are engraved on the slide's right side as certification. The great success of each gun is as everyone remembers, displaying their performance in many historic cases. In these customs, it's said that Joe and Barry Burton's relationship as old friends greatly influenced them.

• DIFFERENT "SAMURAI EDGE" THAN JOE KENDO
"Samurai Edge A1 Jill Valentine Model"
Former S.T.A.R.S. officer Jill Valentine later became a B.S.A.A. agent.
On this occasion she received the "Samurai Edge A1" developed by agent and technical officer Quint Cetcham, who could be called the longest-serving from the old B.S.A.A.
It's the "Samurai Edge A1 Jill Valentine Model."

"Samurai Edge Barry Burton Model Ver.II"
Barry Burton heard the story of the "Samurai Edge A1" developed by Quint Cetcham and asked him "Now make me a new Samurai Edge!"
The "Barry Burton Model Ver.II" was perfected to be able to draw out the maximum capabilities of Barry's present figure and physical strength.

• WHO IS ALBERT WESKER?
The man named Albert Wesker is now widely known as an ever-cunning schemer.
From his sharp powers of observation and insight as well as his extremely composed cool, he prioritized an abstract way of thinking over emotions with no qualms using or betraying anyone for the sake of his own objectives and profit.
As a result, he even considered his own body a tool and didn't hestitate transforming it either. He clung to an ambition of "standing at the top surpassing humanity" and his encounter with the t-Virus led him to believe he could realize his ideals.

While adoring the t-Virus' prominent bioenhancements, he envisioned situations involving "facing t-Virus equipped enemies" and explored countermeasures, embodying the nature of a schemer. As many research findings were confiscated from his personal effects after his death, among them the study of many "physical weapons", it became clear once more that he was a schemer.

So what were his anti t-Virus thoughts?
Imagine the development of high-powered weapons, armaments and viruses surpassing the t-Virus-- this way of thinking is merely a cyclical arms race and it seems he chose not to sit around waiting for the malaise in present society, though that's our speculation. His research findings hold an abundance of sublime countermeasure tactics against a variety of viral weapons, defining an imperative total neutralization. Then he considered not only neutralizing one side's viral weapons, but also situations where each of their viral weapons were neutralized. The essence of his seemingly contradictory research on physical weapons and total neutralization was to prepare effective countermeasure weapons under any circumstances-- in other words his goal was to mitigate the "contradiction."

We can vaguely imagine Albert Wesker emphasizing the development of physical weapons and arms for the reasons above. It's officially assumed he would've always been thinking of anti-B.O.W. weapons for his own profit rather than for the profit of his ascribed company.
It might've been the ultimate egotist's idea that only he hold the countermeasures.

• THE PROJECT DEVISED BY JOE KENDO
Although we've written about the special customs incorporating the strong passions of each of the four individuals tested prior to the standard issue adoption of the Samurai Edge in S.T.A.R.S., only Albert Wesker produced a concrete plan and sent it to Joe Kendo. In those days he had another face while positioned as acting Captain and was also acquainted with the members' commitment to their guns. He knew each had requested a custom from Joe and, always assuming being either the attacker or the attacked, perhaps he shallowly and superficially thought he was obligated to superior countermeasures.
He mentally envisioned everything including arms, tactics and strategy, things he conjured as if they were his own thoughts, so finally it's safe to assume he always held the upper hand. An overlooked point is his way of thinking shining through when he asked for a silencer, able to kill secretly. It seems he told Joe the silencer was essential in principle as he had many secret operations.
He ordered the frame of a 20mm rail build to equip a light module and such, having envisioned things to direct his own areas of speciality-- the matters of killing, containment and jujutsu in enclosed spaces or darkness etc-- in a battle the other side could never win. Can't help but be surprised at foreseeing the arrival of the standard Picatinny rail at the time.

Despite digressing, he was cunning by placing himself within the police, I think he got the safest hideout. A malignant tumor, it seems it was only an elaborate provision for him to hide his ambition.
I think the inordinately detailed research vis-a-vis each of his squad is telling; that even his own men made him uneasy rather than hostiles. His elaborate scrutiny was futile and his squadsman Chris, absolute justice made flesh, ended up being a big miscalculation.

A lot of products and experimental data left by Albert Wesker were once again inspected in-house by the rehabilitated Umbrella Co. and were extremely effective in redeeming most of the old Umbrella Corp.'s dark legacy.
The anti-B.O.W. research results in particular mesmerized the researchers. You could call the fruits of that research the ultimate handheld weapons.
The results of basic research into renouncing biodiversity are included within, but we've excluded them in this document.
Part of the research envisioned combat in an unaffected state; alongside much conceptualizing of practical use by skilled combatants not equipped with weapons of mass destruction like viruses.
In a paper among his personal effects, he argues that weapons of mass destruction don't necessarily lead to improving the situation.
Unbound to the old regime, the "Blue" researchers have summed up those research results and are conducting development based on mass-production; to be supplied for testing to anti-biohazard units such as the B.S.A.A.

Who the hell takes 10 hours to beat RE2? My first time though was like 3.5 hours, and on the PAL timer.

Thanks News Bot, i'm very glad to see you here!

I already read the translated version that you sent on Biohaze, but it still leaves me very intrigued to see what type of context they'll bring up on Not a Hero and the path they're bulding in this new arch. Even that being the most weird thing i'll say today, Umbrella Corp is basically the skeleton for this "new Umbrella" revival and even some interesting inside info about what they're doing behind the curtains. It's important to keep the fans informed, i appreciate that.

Who the hell takes 10 hours to beat RE2? My first time though was like 3.5 hours, and on the PAL timer.

I mean, i played RE2 last year for the first time (without knowing anything about gameplay, just the story) and managed to get at least 7H from it. Similar thing from REmake as well, i got 8~9H, comparing to RE7 which was 11. They are more focused and narrow games, but they have enough content and variety (debatable about RE7) to keep you playing for hours. If you see how simple RE1 was before Rebirth you would be surprised, there's enough material to make a whole new version inside RE2, and if they decide to use it, from scrapped ideas like 1.5 for an example.

Yeah, most of the classic games are pretty short once you know what you are doing or just have a knack for these type of games. I saw one of my friends took about 15 hours to finish REmake and was like damn they must have got lost a lot lol.

I think Albert Wesker is the Tom Riddles of Biohazard with possibly a mix of Dr. Brenner from Stranger things. Wesker is coming back in BIO 8 because horcrux. Also someone revive Steve. Chris is obviously Harry potter but like a million times more badass. Jill is like Hermione except not really.

I played through Resident Evil (GC) on Halloween night. I was playing a little haphazardly, and got into a situation where a handful of Crimson Heads roamed the mansion, and I had no ammo. It was interesting having to use routes that I don't normally take very often.

I'd have liked to play the PC version, but those backgrounds are awful. Any word on whether someone is going mod in the (GC) originals?

Huh? Aren't the vast majority of FEmale HD's backgrounds the same as on GC?

No dude, they are going to bring back Wesker Sepiroth style, with disciples/worshipers to revive and turn him into a god like being to strike back at the earth. That's got to be the end game with all surviving linked characters making a final stand as their personal responsibility with this event.

The upscaling method and filters (sharpening in particular) they applied looks awful.
Oh, really? I actually thought REmake HD looked really good. Not as good as Zero, mind you, but still pretty good overall. Far better than the GC/Wii versions on an HDTV, at least. I should note that I primarily played in 4:3 aspect ratio tho. The widescreen mode seems to have an adverse effect on the image quality of the backgrounds (perhaps just because it zooms in so much).

The Aqua Ring made me want to vomit. It's a blurry sharp mess. Some areas looked absolutely horrendous. Others didn't suffer as much. It's a shame that there were only certain areas they actually remade (like the Crypt and the room next to Kenneth's body) because they look amazing in comparison.

It does suck that they lost the original files for the backgrounds. I would have loved to have seen REmake look as good as RE0.

I usually play it on Dolphin. If someone is able to replace the backgrounds of the PC version with the original GC files, then it would probably be the definitive version.

Correct. But I'd much rather have the backgrounds in their original form, than their attempt at applying Photoshop magic to them.
OK, we'll just have to agree to disagree on the merits of REmake HD then. :p (I'm one to talk, tho. Most people prefer CVX's HD remaster, but I hate what they did with the lighting, and prefer playing the PS2 version, lol).

Yeah, I'm glad they released the PS2 version on the PS4 PSN a few months ago. I didn't like the changes they made in the remaster.

Yeah, I was pretty happy with that as well, and I was pretty impressed with Sony's HD emulation on PS4 too (shame there are so few games available). The only thing that sucked is that there was a new trophy list, and being the OCD RE perfectionist that I am, I of course had to play through that accursed Battle Mini-game and get an A rank with everybody all over again. Ugh, lol.

I might as well ask here. I think I might play Resident Evil 2 again sometime soon. Is there any consensus on which version is the best? I was going to play it on Dolphin, though I'm open to suggestions.

I don't think I could ever be bothered to do that lol, maybe one day.

I always really liked the Dreamcast version, it's also the one I grew up on, didn't find until later that it was one of the best versions of RE2.

Remake: the trick is to have a small tv and not notice lol.

The only problem with the DC version is the controller's dpad. I found myself pivoting while attempting to shoot dogs...

The GC version you seem to be gravitating towards worked fine for me on Dolphin. I'm not sure about where it falls in the overall ranking of versions, but it'd probably be easier to emulate than the Dreamcast one, require less in terms of compatibility workarounds than the PC one, and not suffer from the compression drawbacks of the N64 and original PSX one.

I should try the GBA version at some point.

Capcom's Financial Results for the second quarter of 2017 is up, here's the results:

TZCBk.png

The Platinum hit's sales were updated as well. RE7 now sits on the 8th position with the amount of 4.1M copies shipped worldwide. I think RE6 got bigger as well, but i'm not sure. It now sits on 7M which is very impressive:

RE4 and RE5 becoming 1 million sellers with just their PS4 and XB1 ports is impressive as well. RE6 got a little bump in that department too.

RE6 also did reach 7 million. So it's finally reached its expectations now.

Awesome! Glad to see the best RE's doing well! That should give hope for more over-the-shoulder Action RE (and the standalone Mercs game I want so badly) in the future. :D
