tbh I was really impressed with DDD. There were times where I found it hard to believe this was originally a 3DS games. Worlds where big and there were plenty of enemies and things to do which was a big difference compared to BBS which I felt was really empty and small in comparison.

There's a second playable character in KH3. We haven't been told who it is. Given that DDD has such a heavy Riku focus, and it's the last full game before KH3, I kind of doubt he'll be playable again.
Honestly I think your either playing as Riku, or your playing as one (or maybe all 3) of the characters from BBS. The reason why I say Riku is probably going to be playable is because there was this theory video on Youtube and the guy basically quoted an official Square Enix Press Release that gave the general idea as to what Riku and Sora are going to be up to in KH3

Basically Riku will be tasked with finding the other keyblade wielders which I imagine will entail finding Aqua and saving Terra. Based off the last trailer where you see a glimpse of Riku and King Mickey in the Dark Margin which gives me the impression that they're looking for Aqua.

So to me at least it sounds like Riku makes the most sense to have as a playable second character since he will have a substantial role in the game's story. Maybe you'll also get to play as Aqua as well, but honestly as someone who hasn't played 0.2 yet it still pisses me off that 0.2 wasn't the prologue for KH3.

I think it would have been such an awesome way to start the game with a character we haven't seen in a very long time.
Make the assumption that KH3 only has two playable characters when KH2 had four. M'kay.

1 is a consequence of the platform. 2-4 aren't exclusive to 3D.

With 1, the platform does not excuse the game from having issues like that.

With 2-4, yes other games had similar issues, but they were lot worse in 3D, especially game balance. Just because earlier games in the series had similar issues does not excuse 3D from them. A more recent game in the series is supposed to fix the problems the earlier games had, not make them worse.

Point is, overly criticizing 3D for faults every game has had like 3D is the only one with them is crazy disingenuous.
3D is a great game people overcriticize because of the platforming being broken (which was probably on purpose?) and them cramming all the important story in the third act. Like every other game in the franchise.
My point is still that the game is overcritized. Not that it's perfect, just that it's not that bad and far from the pariah that people make it out to be.
I was under the impression that it was confirmed to only be two. Is it not?
Look at this guy, expecting things to be confirmed in a KH game. Pssh.

We didn't know Mickey was playable before KH2 was out. We damn well didn't know Riku was. Hell, I'm not sure we even knew about Roxas.

We definately saw at least a clip of Roxas fighting Twilight Thorn in one of the short trailers.

Gotta say I have no memory (hyuck) at all if Riku in CoM was public knowledge before the game was out. I don't remember it being at least.

I'm so psyched Marluxia is back. Or is it Laurium now?

He was always an enigmatic character. Unknown backstory, yet one of the strongest Organization members. Has enough gusto to organize a coup. I hope we learn more about him (and Larxene) in KH3. They're stuck in one of the lesser KH games, but they're such great characters.

Finally beat Lingering Will, so I've pretty much done everything important in Critical Mode. I dropped the combo before I could use a finish and he went into his desperation move so I would've broken down crying if that'd been the end of it.

I'll move on to replaying BBS next, but I don't know if I should go Proud Mode full clear or Critical again. This KH2FM Critical was murder.

We saw Roxas face down the Twilight Thorn, we saw nothing of the fight nor anything to indicate this was a new player character. They only ever showed him with two keyblades in the lead up; we didn't see him with the Kingdom Key. They didn't actually show him in any gameplay, just cutscenes.

And no, reverse rebirth didn't come out before, but I was talking about the fact that you play as Riku in KH2 not CoM.

I don't consider Riku a real playable character in KH2. He's like a guest character at best, only partially playable in one fight from what I remember.

When I hear "two playable characters" I presume an entire segment dedicated to that character, like with Roxas and Sora.

Hmm yeah would you recommend doing the full critical clear in KH2?

I just have the grinding left in my CoM plat, and I'm wondering if I should do 1 or 2 playthroughs in KH2 and BBS.

I'd recommend going through the game on a lower difficulty to get the trophies for the secret bosses, then do just the story on Critical. The Data battles and Lingering Will get rough in Critical when your health is half as long as it should be.

Riku's only truly playable in CoM and DDD. You only use him once in KH2 during the last Xemnas fight for one segment

Benzychenz What have you got left to do in the CoM plat?

I just wrapped up 4 out of the 5 mini game related trophies, and I just got Riku to level 96 this morning. If I really wanted to I could probably have the platinum today.

To be honest I'm starting to feel the Riku grind isn't nearly as bad as it looked when I first started.

5 enemy cards to go then just grind to 99 with both characters.

The enemy cards are a pain but it's been a much quicker grind than I was led to believe. I'll be glad to start the 99 grind though just to be free of RNG.

Personally didn't think the enemy card grind too much. It's on par with Synthesis grind from KH1 I felt.

Just finished KH2 and then watched the movie version of 358/2 Days, a few thoughts.
-KH2 is a fantastic video game, just a joy to play from start to finish.
-Roxas and Xion had it really rough, like... damn, didn't expect such a sad ending, from the DS game no less. I hope we somehow see more of Xion, although I haven't gone any further yet so for all I know she could pop up again.
-Ansem the Wise is an asshole.

Now to start Birth By Sleep.

Would you recommend Level 1 critical for a KHII first playthrough?
I've seen countless playthroughs over the years, so I know what to expect, but I'm not sure if standard critical would be more fun.

I'm looking for a fun challenge, not hitting roadblocks every five minutes. BBS level 1 critical was kinda the latter for me.

I'd say standard critical unless you are the type of guy that really wants a challenge. Of course you could always just start with level 1 run and turn the exp 0 ability off if it get's frustrating. You'd need to grind for levels afterward of course.

I also wouldn't recommand playing the game at level 1 if you play it for the first time., since it gets pretty crazy prety fast.
Critical should be enough of a challenge, espically the post-game if you care for that kind of stuff.

Ah Ok- thanks.
I'll go for 100% on critical, then level 1 on a future playthrough. Like what I did with BBS.

IIRC, Reverse Rebirth wasn't revealed until like, a week or two before the JP release (Which was only about three or so weeks before the international release.

I think you're gonna have that issue with all level 1 critical runs. That challenge is pretty much built for a pure perfection run on secret bosses. I did standard critical and it was difficult enough at certain points.

Plus a lot of the bosses in KH2 are built to kill you immediately if you don't know the fight (Sephiroth, Data Larxene, Lingering Will, etc.)

Anyone want to give me some non-spoiler tips for Re:coded?

For example, what should I be spending SP on at the end of sectors?
- Always spring for the rewards at the top of the rewards list highlighted in Yellow.
- Never be afraid to swap to statistically weaker keyblades; Most have other qualities that make up for it, like adding an ignite property to physical attacks, or giving you a passive Protect/Shell/Regen augment.
- Magnet spells are your friend. Great for crowd control. Always place Level Up chips adjacent to, on top or on bottom of each other. You'll get a stat boost (2x, IIRC?) for doing so.

Re:Coded gets a bad rap, but it's actually pretty fun, even if the game itself is mostly unnecessary.

Re:Coded is probably one of the better games in the series when you actually get to play it. But you spend most of your time doing gimmicky crap and in backdoors.

My list I'm using has 30 Heartless cards so I've only got 9 so far lol. It took me 88 white mushrooms before that card dropped, 400 black fungus before I got that card. Spent an hour and a half going for Large Body and Cresendo in Wonderland this morning before giving up and playing Dissidia instead.

Jesus christ that's terrible luck.
I got both mushrooms in like 10 minutes and assumed they had a higher drop rate.
I think the two I mentioned above would be the only ones that took longer than an hour.

My apologies, it was actually 362 Black Fungus. Felt like 400 though!

Edit: complaining works! Just launched back into Re:CoM and second battle with a Large Body rewarded me with its card.

Edit 2: Your luck did transfer Benzychenz! Just got Cresendo. 19 more to go!

Thanks!

In regard to that last part, are you basically saying I should save the Level Up chips until I have two and use them both at once?

I'm so close to this plat, but one of the mini games on 100 acre woods is a bitch and so I kinda "delayed" the plat for the time being.

Riku's level 96, and once I have that mini game done all I have left is Riku, and 500 deck edits.
Which minigame? The vegetable one was the only one that was any trouble at all for me but even that only took a few tries to get it down.

And yeah Riku grinding was much easier than I was led to believe. Save file was at 9 hours at level 47 when I started and I was at 99 at 17 hours. So 8 hours for 52 levels.
