One of the "pirate codes" says something like "All disputes are to be handled at sea"

Rare allows me be shot on neutral ground like an outpost. I think this should be changed.

I pulled up to the skull island and left my sloop and got on a galleon's crows nest. I hear them. They took my ship and lined it up to shoot at the enemies on the island. As they were another sloop pulled up and started nailing their ship. They are thinking the two sloops are teaming up, but I have no idea who the other player is. They have taken off from the island afraid of "us" and I am in disbelief this is happening. ROFL I might start recording and drop down from the crows next. hahaha

Highlights for tonight's Sea of Thieves run:
Getting in a massive sea battle with two other ships
Laying out a bunch of skeletons
Getting a pig as a pet
Running to the end of the dock to play music to a crew that was leaving, them stopping, and us all playing sea shantys

They have to get a use for the brig on a sloop. Maybe a capture bounty where you have to transport some pirate to an outpost have other players notified so they can either try to steal or kill the prisoner.

Well, I caved!

Just bought a Xbox One S.

Had the original One but ended up giving it away since it sat under my bed for 2 years.

Can't wait to play with a few of my friends!

The pirate code is overall community guidelines, both in-game and out of game for the community. The intent of that one is that if you have a dispute with someone, you won't be an asshole outside of the game to them. For example, if a player steals another player's sweet loot, they won't harass them on the SoT forums, hurtful XBL messages, etc.

It doesn't literally mean that you should only fight people on the sea. While it may suck getting killed or your stuff stolen while at an outpost, there's a variety of ways you can handle that. Circle the outpost on your ship before you land. If in a crew, maybe leave someone on the ship, or go in groups so you're less likely to die in an ambush. Putting in safe zones goes against the idea of the game completely, and would really ruin the tension and feel of the game if you knew there was no way anybody could kill you when at an outpost.

So for achievements that didn't end up popping, is it like other Xbox One achievements and they'll pop eventually? Or do they have to be done again? At first I thought they only pop when you return to an outpost, since that's the only time they popped for me before, haha.

Rare said they are all being tracked, will trigger later (I think they said the achievements should be fixed as a part of the client patch early next week).

Matchmaking put me on a random a ship that had a stronghold skull. They were on their way to the outpost and got attacked by another ship and sunk nearly instantly I grabbed the skull before it went down and headed underwater. Swam my ass off killed a shark and delivered. 4k. I was the hero.

So i did some digging on Rare forums as i wanted to provide feedback about firing pigs/chickens out of cannons, found this:
  • Buying pets will be the first thing that you will be able to spend money on
  • Parrot, Cat, and Monkey confirmed so far
  • You will be able to fire them out of cannons
  • It will fit the style of the game and be more fun and silly than cruel
  • If you buy a pet other people will be able to mess around with and experience it, too
  • So if you have a parrot, you will be able to pick it up and run around with it, but someone else can also pick it up and then drown with it (no worries it will come back to you)
http://crewofthieves.com/sea-of-thieves-february-13th-news-summary/

Anyone tried this yet?
That's coming in the first big patch in three months time but who knows it they push it earlier.

Just did my first skull fortress. We spent about 40 minutes clearing waves of skeletons and finally got a key, then another galleon came and took it from us. They were all dressed in nice gear and we were basically penniless. We tried chasing them down twice but they took us down both times. All in all we spent about 2 hours and they got away with tens of thousands of coins while we got basically nothing for the effort but grief. When this game is fun it's fun, but goddamn nothing is more demoralizing than already cooler looking pirates getting richer off your hard work.

I understand why you think it would screw things up. That being said, if they don't actually intend to enforce the codes, there is no point in allowing us to read them at all. I actually like the idea of possibly defending someone from taking our ship down knowing we may also be getting closer to an area where they won't be able to do anything.

All of my achievements that didn't register at first did so a while later. I killed a guy with a blunderbuss shot to the back last night and it took almost a half-hour for it to pop up on my screen, and I didn't even know that was an achievement. Your mileage may vary, though.

I was pleasantly surprised to see a fellow galleon join us at a fort, offer to split the treasure 50/50 afterwards... and actually do that! One of the things we were splitting was gunpowder barrels so you know it took extreme effort on all our parts not to easily backstab each other by simply shooting at a barrel when each group was taking loot back to their respective piles. We even met up at the outpost afterwards to get a few achievements that required multiple crews. Wahey!

I love that. The uneasy truces you form can be just as tense as a ship battle or a boss fight. Last night I cracked and murdered a (probably) innocent pirate who was just playing music on our ship because I had him at gunpoint and he put away his instrument. I didn't trust that, so better a murderer than a dead man, I figured.

Awesome, thanks!

I remember getting Titanfall 1 achievements two weeks late once, haha, I guess it's a matter of time.

I matchmade with a nice fellow this evening. We found a skull, stalked a sloop and got one shotted because we had gunpowder on board. An hour well spent IMO

apparently if 2 players do the "make friends" emote at the same time they add each other as xbox friends automatically?

has anybody done this in the wild?

This game is a ton of fun, but it's majorly missing content and variety

It's too repetitive and needs a higher variety of missions, enemies, weapons and tools

I know the content isn't as varied as I would like, but I just love this game. It's so relaxing, refreshing, and fun. It's magical being in this world.

Rare has something special on their hands, and once it evolves with updates, features, and the like then the initial skeptics may find a game worth getting as well.

"More featured" and higher praised games have been built on much crappier foundations than what Rare has with SoT.

And if they wanted to do a battle Royale mode... they could make it an area you can go to. As ships enter, they could be entering from any which way, and the last one surviving gets the treasure. The ships would replace the plane. I can see that working although I don't think it needs a BR mode but tying it into the world would be awesome.

I haven't put a huge amount of time into the game (10-15 hours), but I still haven't seen the kraken. :'( Hoping to see those beautiful tentacles this weekend!

Played a couple hours with a random crew tonight who, after I joined on them and didn't hear chatting for a few minutes, invited my to their XBL party. We got in to all sorts of shenanigans and I had to force myself to get off to come to bed. I haven't played much with random folks in many years but now two nights in a row I've had very positive experiences with strangers online playing this game. I feel pretty good about it.

With that much cargo I would sailed around the outpost a little just to be sure that Galleon was far away. What I have done is basically think how long will it take to unload what I have and is that other ship far away enough for me to get that done. If I don't think I can, I sail around a bit until they are far off. It has worked a few times for me and worth a shot. As a solo pirate, being vigilant and overly cautious is the only way to survive and ensure you get the payout for the work you have done.
They had actually gone past a point where I could make them out, like to the point where you think you see a shuobut when you look through your telescope it's just rocks.

I have only played for a handful of hours, and the flaws are very evident, but Sea of Thieves has already given me some memorable, enormously fun moments.

Just some minutes ago matchmaking put me in a battered ship with a well-meaning crew. I wasn´t using my mic, so I tried to help as much as I could by communicating with gestures. Just as we were returning to an outpost with chests and skulls, we were attacked by a very aggresive galleon. Out of cannon ammo and out of wood for repairs, they chased us to a little island where we eventually outmatched them in hand to hand combat and with swimming / boarding strategies. The inter-crew voice chat was intense, to say the least.
I even managed to fire myself from one of our cannons into their ship and killed two of the them. The "landing in an enemy deck" achievement hasn´t unlocked for me yet, though.

I still fear for the longevity of the game but I consider that Rare crafted a unique, very enjoyable experience.

Some potential ship changes and upgrades that wouldn't be completely unfair.

Allow people to customize their cannons, by choosing different types of shots, wouldn't be unbalanced as they have varying functions. (Ammo for some would of course have to be limited, or be much slower to fire)

Not all of these will make sense or be grounded in realism, just ideas.

Chain Shot: Causes the sails to collapse/roll up. Or generally just "Slows the ship" there's different ways you could handle this. Causes very minor damage, can kill pirates.

Smoke or Venom cannon balls: Obscuring shots, blankets an area with gas, smoke or poison. On the water or otherwise (Generate clouds even). Either obscuring enemy vision on board their boats, or on the water to attempt escape/boarding manuevers.

Spear shots?: Tether style shots, stay until they're cut or shot helping to tie ships together. Slow ships etc.

Fire/incendiary: Shots made less for hull damage, and more for crew damage, incendiary rounds if landed properly will burn crew for small amounts of continous damage along the deck. (Maybe add water barrels on decks, so people can scoop water and put out fires at will). Basically an attempted CC shot.

There's plenty of possibilities. But that's a few that would really spice up the game at least.

Tried playing again with my brother tonight and the game was basically entirely busted for us. Wouldn't load our gold, voyages, reputation, models, our ship would sink as soon as we loaded into the game, and all the NPC shops couldn't load. We tried remaking the game a few times and nothing changed. Anybody else run into this?

Did a solo run for about an hour or 2. I swear this game is trying to make me hate it.

Did a find a skull mission and my boat randomly took on water and sank. Had to leave the skull and warm back to boat then retrieve skull. While doing this i came across a message in a bottle mission to dig up a treasure chest. Did that and my boat sank again?! No enemies around. Respawn and collect my chest and skull then set off for a outpost. Get trapped in a storm for about 15 mins while frantically keeping it from sinking all the while struck by lightning.

Finally made it to the outpost and turn in my items for about 600 gold.

1. Ships fill with water in the rain.

2. Make sure your ship is not moving when you disembark. Hitting the island will make a hole.

3. Map room holes are tough to spot and hear. They make a distinct sound when water sloops in. It's a lot slower.

I do think they need to adjust some mechanics for solo players. They already make sloops fill with water at a slower rate. They also have you dig up treasure faster.

The merchant quests for sure need work. Pigs die too easy without feeding them. I had one on my ship, it died as I was looking for snakes on Wanderers Refuge.

Speaking of snakes.... they need to stay charmed longer if you are solo. Super frustrating.

I think they should lower the number of snakes tbh, I swear, I was exploring a mid-size island and there were like 10 snakes in the island, it's annoying because you need 5+ hits with a sword to kill them

I gave up fighting snakes for that reason. I apologize if you already know this, but playing music makes them docile and you can just walk by.

So I got raided while on lagoon island.

Killed x3 and the guys stole all my shit (12xchests, 6xskulls and two tea crates) and then got smashed by another galleon while I was watching from my sloop during repairs.

The other galleon saw me and came over to the island, jump onboard to raid me and asked if i just got raided by another galleon.

Told them what was stolen and they gave me three captain chests and a gold skull and set off again.

That's badass. I look forward to seeing different factions of players like noble thieves, bounty hunters, and sea police form organically based on the decisions of the community.

Gunpowder is your best friend. On sloops it's damn near necessary. Me
And WesleyShark were duo slooping and tried to be friends with some people, galleons and sloops. They didn't feel like returning the favor. So a quick explosion and boarding dispatched them quickly.
