ZzzzzzZzzzZzz...
Solid isolation shot of Lewis adjusting his junk before settling in, lol.

The halo makes the car onboard shot a little distracting. It'll just take awhile to get used to I guess.

I've really tried to stay positive but some of those onboard shots are like 75% halo...

At least I get commentary on all FPs for the first time

Mercedes seems to be on a tier of their own again.

Now to see if Red Bull has really cut the gap between them and Ferrari.

I cant wait for quali and hope for no rain so we can finally see where they all really are.

Haas has my attention, after Grosjean was on a lap that would only have been a few tenths behind RBR.

Though you're not necessarily wrong right now, this is a bit much to leap toward and panic about after less than one practice session.

The onboard video is awful with the halo. Need some different angles. I also don't like the hiding of the drivers behind the screens in the pits due to the halo.

Fuck that halo for aesthetic purposes. More safety is cool though.

I do like the SkySports feed on ESPN.

I wanna be the first to congratulate Lewis on matching Fangio's five world championships.

It's amazing being able to watch a legal stream of the Sky feed.

Props to ESPN for at least streaming all the practice sessions.

I did not mind the Halo, visibility on on-boards was fine.

The all-red Ferrari looks so much better now.

Glad to see Red Bull so close on a high-power track. This bodes well for the rest of the season.

Finally, loving the new graphics, though some tweaks are needed. The red is sometimes hard to read during the intro, RBR blue in the sidebar is unreadable and the team logos there are too small, even on a 55" TV they are barely distinguishable. Other than that, it looks great. Brundle being allowed a camera on trackside now is amazing, love that, get rekt Bernie.

Those Haas look promising, and McLaren seems to be up there with them, but still far from Red Bull which should be where they are aiming since they both have the same PU.

Honda is still slow but at least they seem super reliable now.

Just watching practice for the first time and like a few others have said the onboard looks terrible, well the standard onboard is not too bad.

But the lower angle onboard which I loved looks terrible now.

Also just a small pet peeve but I'm not a fan of making the graphics bigger and having more on the screen, everything is bigger, the lap time is a much bigger box and the team radio instead of a small line now is a box showing the drivers face. I also preferred having the time pop instantly instead of it sliding in like it does now, not as snappy as it was. But anyway, it is what it is, will have to get used to it, just happy F1 is back and hopefully Red Bull is back in the mix, love their drivers.

As a counter, I like the new graphics. But I can see what you mean.

Looks like we have a 3 way fight team wise this weekend with RBR looking stronger than expected at this point. Bodes well as RBR usually have strong in-season development.

If the McLaren doesn't explode they look like solidly 5th team wise behind Haas, who look like they are massively improved from last year. Looks like Renault haven't made the progress they promised, Force India mixing it with Williams and STR instead of the top 4 and Saubers are still awful.

So Haas looks stronger this year after all, but I'm not so sure they can develop the car throughout the entire year.

Interesting comparison to P2 last year.

While I think Hamilton set a bit of a faster lap (he was 0.5s quicker than anyone this time last year) he was still 0.3s quicker than last year.

Comparing the best of each teams times to last year reveals fuck all and are as follows:

Ferrari pretty much the same, RBR 0.5s quicker. Haas 0.8s quicker, McLaren 0.8s quicker. Renault nearly the same, Force India 0.2s quicker. Williams 0.8s quicker, STR 0.9s slower. Sauber 0.4s slower.

Only 3 teams outright slower and the worst is the team switching to Honda. They may be reliable now but they've not made any progress up the grid. In fact this time last year Sainz was 7th at this point.

The worst part about the halo isn't the halo itself, but how seemingly no thought has gone into making it blend to give it a nicer aesthetic for TV viewers. The on-board shots look godawful now (mounting the camera in a way to hide the halo would have been preferable), and you can't see the driver when they're sitting in the car in the garage because the teams have had to come up with a shitty workaround for their monitors. I can accept the halo on safety grounds (until something better comes along), but it just seems so, I don't know, half-assed...

Codemasters must be in a bind with the halo - where does the camera go now? It would be amazing if they could get permission to remove it in the game.
