Also how many playthroughs are required to platinum the game? The difficulty of the chalice dungeons always put me off going too far into them, but now the population is booming I might go for it.
Only one playthrough if you use a back-up save (USB or PSN) - there's an achievement for each of the 3 endings, so without that it would mean going through to the end of NG++

You need to remember not to consume any umbilical chords for this method, as one ending requires you not to use them, so back-up save before using them

I mean you don't have to go to NG+ if you can't make a back-up save. Just start a new character! The ending trophies aren't tied to one save.

My favourite music of the game so far. That lantern is awesome for farming levels if you need to, the two pigs drop 3K each. It was my fo to leveling place all the way until Cainhurst.

Any opinions on whether it's worth to level up Ludwig's Holy Blade? I'm a dedicated Hunter's Axe +7 user, love spin2win. I could get the blade up to +6 immediately.

I was running a pure skill build until I started messing with Ludwig's, now I'm going quality. Its 2-handed mode is really helping me out with some of the stronger enemies like snatchers and executioners. It also does a great job of staggering them, which makes snatchers a breeze. I'm leveling it up alongside the saw spear which I use for beasts and any quick enemies.

If the axe is a strength weapon maybe don't level up Ludwig's and instead go for a quicker weapon? Saw spear is pretty awesome for dogs, werewolves, etc.

Are you taking advantage of buffs? Because Amelia is very much not a tank boss. With a BBP and fire paper, (weak to fire is she) hack away at her limbs to stun her and she will go down in seconds, completely stun locked.

It helps to explore the areas either side her boss room and Hypogean Gaol too since they all have a nice bounty of twin shards, you can be +6 weapon before fighting her making her a bit of a joke boss tbh.

I haven't been taking advantage of buffs, that was probably it. I have been exploring the hypogean gaol though, I think my sword is +6

Ah, my favourite boss. He's the one where I realised how hooked I was on Bloodborne and then by extension, the whole Souls formula. My shout and leap of joy at putting him down was epic. I then regularly went on a Friday night to help others with him, which can be excellent - when you can get in the groove you can chain backstabs and visceral attacks as he aggros to the person who hit him last. I've got it down pretty well so it feels like this great dance at times fighting him.

Well done on defeating him - looks like it was an epic fight as well, although I'm surprised/impressed you didn't try and parry him!

Hey gang. I'm the guy that posted the "how do you play?" topic in games.

Finally beat Cleric Beast. Got to Father Gascigone (sp?), who I prior thought was the final boss, and almost beat him in one try. Can't wait until I'm like the guy who platinumed after saying "not my type of game" up there.

I was also considering going for the Platinum, but the difference is I don't think I have the patience for grinding my way through the chalice dungeons lol. My backlog is too big for that. :)

Thanks! I never got the timing of the parrying shot down so have got this far without almost ever using it. After that boss I went and finished Rom and found my way to the new part of the Unseen Village, holy shit this game just keeps getting harder and harder. That three hunter fight in the chapel wrecked me more times than Rom :D

This is where I am right now. Just defeated Mergo's Wet Nurse and I'm only missing the 2 optional final bosses, Ebrietas and the DLC stuff. Thinking of the Platinum is tempting but I've seen those Chalice Dungeon bosses you have to beat to get to Yharnam. NOPE. I'm in love with this game, but that may be a bit too much for me.

PS: This is the first Soulsborne game I'm close to beating, after being repeatedly discouraged by Demon's Souls and Dark Souls. Love all these games, but I had only ever experienced them as a spectator; I never thought I'd get this far in one of them. Wondrous perseverance!

Is there any way to stop invasions in
nightmare frontier
? That shit's annoying.

Also Amelia co-op is so fun. It's my go-to when I'm not bothered to work my way through a new area. Think I may also try to grind my weapons up a bit by shard farming in the gaol.

Yes - there is a
bell-ringing woman you have to find, kill once and then it stops. Bit difficult to explain, but there should be some videos to help!

Haha ok will give it a shot. Right now I'm having too much fun co-oping Amelia. It's getting to a point where I'm being summoned by NG+ folks because I'm getting 50k+ echoes per attempt! Good stuff.

I've only played offline, but I don't remember any bell ringers in Nightmare Frontier, so I don't think it would work to go offline - I'm guessing they only show up online??

I'm pretty happy that after giving up on this game three years ago I beat BSB on my fourth try solo and Amelia on my first. I switched to the Kirkhammer and it's reminding me of the massive club I used through all of the last half of DS2.

Is the best way to get Ritual Blood 3 just to return to the two dungeons I have completed? Need it to create the third fixed dungeon, Lower Pthumerian Labyrinth

Oh man, I feel so stupid. I always thought that enemies scale with your level, so I've just been tossing away sets of 300k+ echoes by not using them before difficult areas (falling down the Healing Church Workshop, boss fights, etc.) in my restarted NG+ playthrough.

After 30+ tries over 4 days - I reached my Bloodborne epiphany.

Laurence was resolutely kicking my ass - summoning Valtr allowed me to get to stage 2 of the fight (crawly crawly) but when he dies I just couldn't do enough DPS to take him down. Solo I was annihilated, sometimes in the first 30 seconds of the fight. And then, for the first time consciously, I tried to learn the patterns. After 10 attempts I started being able to get him solo into the second stage of the fight, and then - it clicked. I knew, 60 seconds into the fight, this was it...

*boom* dodge, *swipe swipe swipe* dodge..

It was never in doubt and down he went, with no trouble. Much relief, but no trouble. This game - that was the first boss I really struggled with and it MADE me play it properly - no cheese, no jank, just get good. Fantastic.

If you're in NG+ that's not many echoes. After a certain point I just use them to buy blood vials and bullets

Yeah, you're right. Still, it feels bad to lose any amount. But I am maxed out on vials and bullets since my first playthrough. I just wish you could buy blood stone chunks and/or madman's knowledge with echoes, as opposed to having to pay with insight. I wasted a bunch on the beast cutter, only to find out I didn't care for it and would rather use the whirlgig.

A good way to get insight is to find a boss that a lot of people summon for and use your small bell so you get summoned. It will let you get insight and echoes.

I just need 5 more trophies for the Plat. Need to beat the Queen, get the two other endings (having had the true ending in my first playthrough), and then do the Hunters Essence and Hunters Craft.

I'm currently Lvl 74 with Vicar Amelia down, Shadow of Yarnham here I come!

did hemwick lane, beat the witches, did some stuff in the cathedral ward, killed the two hunters where one had the electrical mace thing and the other was a quick dodging pain in the ass, ran into that big ass room over there and kept dying to that thing that would pull me into the air and slam me. would go back to get my echoes and then die right after. happened a few times in a row so I went to the hunter's dream and spent some insight to get down to 9 and got my echoes back. not sure if that's what did it but whatever, I got them. started leveling up blood because I want to use that katana whenever I get it (thanks to that sunhi gif lol). got to the forbidden forest and progressed a little bit.

loving every bit of this game. loved hemwick lane a lot, such a tightly designed area. that one NPC that just screams near the pulley short cut creeped me the fuck out. this game does creepy better than any game I've played tbh.

OMG this frenzy monster in
nightmare frontier
is such a pain in the ass. Died to him 5 times.

If you have Deep Sea Rune, it's a great help. Also, swap into frenzy resistance improving clothing, and equip sedatives. There are only two of those enemies afaik, and once you get past them you can open the shortcut and never see them again in that area.

Seems I missed the Powder Keg Badge when I didn't loot Djura's corpse after I pushed him off the ledge (if he even landed on the ground to begin with, didn't bother checking since the other hunter below was still alive and said screw that), meaning no buying oil urns, rope molotovs, or the spike/pile bunker weapon for me... crap. Had no idea that befriending him by killing the Blood-Starved Beast first and heading back his way without him seeing you to start shooting at you was an option, either.

Egads I did not expect Laurence to be so difficult. The first time I fought him was NG+ so I figured that is why I struggled so much, but holy crap he hits like a truck even in NG. I'm struggling with him more then I did Ludwig at this point. I forgot how insanely tough the Old Hunters bosses were.

A good strategy for them is to parry them and use the i-frames you get while you're performing the visceral attack to make yourself immune from the frenzy damage.

Although you'll have to time it depending on where the bar is.

If you exit the game and reload, the badge will be on the tower where he usually stands.
