If it really only adds a single extra attack, then there's literally zero reason to ever bother using a weapon that has 30% less or more attack power over your primary, even at 100% zing. Not only will it do overall less damage, it also becomes mana inefficient.

Also, despite the game being pretty easy, I'd suggest unmemorizing all but one or two skills from the party members that are in your group, but that you rarely (if ever) manually control. It stops them from wasting so much mana on stupid shit all of the time.

Yeah it's more annoying to constantly remember to switch weapons for a special attack when everything's pretty easy to begin with. It would be better if each character could use different weapon types that change how they fight but using 3 swords similar in attack strength is pointless.

The game really does get more fun when you force your MC to use the worst weapons and armor (I still enjoyed it before, but the combat left a lot to be desired). To me, the issue seems to be the game shoving all of its systems onto you right from the get-go, rather than you receiving them as the game got more difficult. The Zing system should feel like this clutch thing that you can only get the most out of every so often, rather than basically spin attacking your way to victory. Seems as if they over-corrected from some of the feedback from the first game. Hopefully they'll hear the noise and patch in a "hard" mode, or better yet, a lot more options a la Persona. But other than that, I like it quite a bit. The voice acting stuff doesn't bother me at all because I tend to hate long cut-scenes with spoken dialogue I can't skip (looking at you Kingdom Hearts).

The lack of audio is seriously starting to grate now. How can there be so many damn scenes that are just SILENT? Starting to think they have a DLC audio pack incoming that includes all the voiceover work currently missing...

Game is great though, 6 hours in and i just hit chapter 4: lets get some kingdom building in!
Sadly the first was like this.

Its annoying to me too.

Never played the original, but liked the look of the game enough and bought it. I just finished chapter one, but thought it was a bit of a weak opening but maybe that's just me. I really enjoy the combat though! I was surprised to see the camera zoom out when moving around the world too.

I hate this DAY ONE EDITION!!! stuff :(

The only version I can find of this game locally has a huge golden "Day one edition" logo on the front of the box.

I just got to Chapter 4, and I'm entertained enough to keep going. I do hope the combat difficulty provides more of a challenge going forward. I do kind of miss the guard mechanics from 1.

I switched out Evan as soon as I got Tani and the combat became much better. Tani is actually kinda weak and some attacks in the forest takes half your hp. I also try to never use the higgledy in combat (I also always forget).

I think Evan is simply over-tuned in the beginning. If all the heroes felt like Tani then it would be way better balanced.

Roland is also extremely overtuned. But I have to keep one :(

How long does it take for this game to get good? I just finished chapter 1 and I'm not feeling it at all--but I realize I'm still VERY early.

I have the ability to return it, so no money wasted...

Why isn't the title of this OT "The Battle of Evermore?"
I'm at chapter 4 now and battles are now taking more than 10 seconds to complete. At least the one purple bad guy on the map I attempted did completely flatten me, so I know there's challenge somewhere.... but man those first hours were easy.

is there a weird gap in levels for the army battle mode? feels like my last quest was ~25 and the next one was ~39

I did not play the first

Ni no kuni 2 is good . Not the biggest fan of the combat so far, definitely just button press and its easy, and I'm surprised the overworld looks chibi. The characters and story, and look of the game are good, but so far it has not stick with me yet. It is missing that wow factor, or that click.

Hopefully it does come with time, since I still have a long way to go.

Last rpg I played was xenoblade 2 and that one clicked from the get go. I was hooked since chapter 1. Maybe kuni just needs more time to warm up to me.

Been busy with other things so I've had my Kingdom Builder running in the background. Same thing happened with Merc Missions in Xenoblade 2. Love these timer systems.

Really enjoying doing skirmish battles.

I love how we can recruit new units with diferent skills for the Skirmishes and thers a nice degree of strategy to be used in these battles.

So, I'm in the middle of chapter 3 and very disappointed by the characters thus far.

The story is incredibly basic, which is considering the first game, expected, but no character except Evan has a personality. Roland is probably the blandest character I've ever seen. He acts like no person would, after the very beginning and does absolutely nothing afterwards.

Well it really is a very good game. Story isn't but everything else works. It is even pushing me to do side quests because I want to build my kingdom and get my upgrades but I need more money and to get more money, I need more people.

Story is just so basic and characterization and motivations are weak. But I am enjoying the game part too much to care

Yes, when I was enjoying the game more, it begins to put this shit as mandatory story quests.
Ok so the dog girl wants me to kill 3 monsters for no reason and then she will come to my kingdom? At least try to make it interesting Level 5...

I like the ones that need me to fetch a piece of wool or some shit.

Yup, at least with the item fetch quests I usually have them already since I'm borderline OCD about picking up all the shiny stuff everywhere. But they put like 0 effort into these side quests and it's just a shame.

I'm enjoying building my kingdom more than the main story.
The game is kingdom building. If you don't enjoy that aspect of the game the most then there won't be much here for you. I'm at about the 13 hour mark and it's building a path to me going to the water city. I've seen enough to know that this game will never be what I want it to be. I can accept that. I wanted a kick ass main story that dived into the hard decisions a king has to make and I wanted the kid to grow a bit. I was also hoping Roland played some type of significant role rather than just a side advisory.

None of the characters I've picked up have changed in the slightest. They are exactly who they were when I met them and they are no deeper than their stock tropes. It's kinda sad because there was an interesting story to be told but to this point the developer seems content with making the story an excuse for the kingdom builder rather than a main feature.

Most of the kingdom builder is "I'd love to join your kingdom but I need you to kill 10 monsters, kill this mini-boss, or go get me this material first." It just has been boiling down to a bunch of bland mundane task such as hunts of fetch quest.

This game comes across to me as a Tales game without the entertaining comedic skits and party banter. With a better art style and a more defined structures sidequest system. Tales games typically have barely acceptable stories but are usually carried with a few quirky characters in the cast and the skits and banter. Maybe the next 2 party members I get will address this because the ones I have now are alright but it feels like I'm just going through the motions at this point.

Speaking of the kingdom building, apparently a late game objective requires the weapon shop to be level 4, which by all accounts will take a while if that aspect of the game is being neglected by the player. So yeah.

I dont understand how this game received such praise..does everyone not have a basic understanding of good sound design? The music is loud and annoying/in your face and if you put it on low or disable it, you'll find out why. Theres almost no ambient sounds at all, like just some wind and other basic stuff. I'm literally standing in the gambling town with the music off and theres only the wind. What the fuck is this shit?

I don't understand why battling/kingdom management are separate from battle.

This is why Dragon Quest 8 and Dark Cloud 2 are so great. The big minigame is tied into what you're doing so you collect monsters or resources and it's all a part of everything.

I hear people keep saying they're enjoying the kingdom aspect more than the story and that's a problem because this part of the game should make the other part of the game more fun.

Got the new character. The drippy equivalent, so about 4 hours in.

One complaint, and I'm not sure if this ever gets solved.

This game is STUPID easy.

Like, laughably easy. I just beat the Gorilla that proceeded the Drippy character, and my God. That might as well have been a random enemy with a bigger HP pool. Nothing has been a challenge in this at all. Literally nothing. And they just gave me a tablet to make the game even easier.

It's still stupid easy several hours on from where you are. As long as you equip the best stuff you find and are about a level or two ahead of what you're fighting, you will never die.
