I'm up to chapter 5 and the game is still really easy. I just go around collecting drops instead of fighting while the AI mops up everyone else.

5 hours in, I don't need the game to get hard but a step up from braindead would be nice. I've never played a game where bosses die this fast. It's especially jarring coming off of XC2.

I feel the exact same way. The game is boring me to tears because of this.

The graphics and music are awesome, the story is serviceable even if simple and the comabt mechanics are really cool...but I finish battles before being able to put some of them to use.

25 hours and chapter 6. I've gotten my Kingdom up to a great speed, most of the level 2 buildings have been built and many building are upgraded to max level. Getting 30k KG / hour. I'm still lacking in suitable workers tho. I don't have anyone suiting for fish markets for example.

Battles have been a bit more challenging lately. Lost to the "witch" in the side quest you get from Hydropolis. Been acquiring new spells, upgraring Higgledies and brewing new ones. So much to do.

So just got to Chapter 6, confused as hell at the end of Chapter 5.

Sooo... The figures of Hydropolis agree to the marraige and then the guy joins my party and goes to evermore? What the hell that doesn't make sense. Him permanently joining the party makes absolutely no sense.

This game isn't selling very well on steam at all. From the preliminary results on steamspy im guessing it will drop in the 50-75k launch sales. The steam board is also full with people not owning the game asking questions.

Seems to me this game has a piracy problem. Tales of Berseria and Sword art online did far better.

Oh the piracy card again? You did see their regional pricing right: https://steamdb.info/app/589360/
A price of $66.24 in India for example is absolutely ridiculous, ppl can't buy what they can't afford, regional pricing exists for this very reason. These ppl wouldn't have bought it if the game had Denuvo either simply because they can't.
Also the game is as niche as it get's it's a very cute looking easy JRPG.

My view on piracy is that at least a moderate portion of people who pirate a thing never had the intention to pay for it in the first place. So counting those as lost sales is a flimsy scapegoat for missing targeted sales numbers.

In this case, it could just be pricing, as you said, or even that interest in JRPGs has waned. I know I don't buy as many as I used to.

I haven't had much time to play this weekend but my town is in the exact same position as yours from the sound of it and I'm in the same chapter at this point. Have you turned in tokens from the side quest dude in each major town for people to recruit to your town? You get a lot more just from that alone.

I agree. It's incredibly stupid. I actually really dislike the story in this one. It may be my least favorite story in any jrpg I've ever played. I'm not over exaggerating either. I'm not into it what so ever and am not even enjoying the banter between the characters. I'm not vibing with anyone of em. I'm a little intrigued how Ronald got there, but the fact he doesn't seem to care is annoying in and of itself.

A whole bunch of reasons actually! His queen and ruler was attacked by the big bad guy that Evan is building an alliance to take down, it's a HUGE deal that their kingmaker strand was stolen, HUGE. So he needs to help take him down to get the strand back as well as take him out of the picture so it doesn't happen again. They also specifically mention Leander is only going with you while preparations for the wedding are made, this is a limited time thing since THE WORLD IS IN PERIL. Once the crisis is over he's going back to be king of Hydropolis after all!

Yeah, outside of those SquareEnix ones, JRPG in general has been and still is very niche on Steam.

We really can't compare it to console audience and especially here. Ni No Kuni 2 has been consistently voted as one the top 10 most anticipated games in 2 consecutive years in this forum (and the other one, assuming that the users are mostly still the same). While on the other hand, Divinity Original Sin 2 was pretty much out of the conversation here (it was #26 most anticipated game), for example. Steam numbers are showing a total opposite results as well. Divinity peaked at 90k concurrent players at launch while NNK2 peaked at 10k. Divinity sold 500k copies within a week, and I believe NNK2 will settle at 50k. It's just the way it is.

Quick question: how good is the japanese dub compared to the english one?
I'm sure this was discussed before but the thread got sooo long.
For Xenoblade Chronicles 2 I switched to japanese after the first hour and never looked back.

That's fine, but the fact that it's not even going to do half of what Sword Art Online and Tales of Berseria were doing is worrying.

I don't want to call the piracy card as much as anyone else, but this game should sell more, different regional pricing or not.

Tales of Berseria (and Zestiria) was actually doing more or less the same as Ni No Kuni 2. I remember that Berseria sold like 40k copies in its first week. Even the peak concurrent players were lower than this game. NNK2 is comparable to Zestiria with 10k peak concurrent players.

SAO is like a different beast due to its franchise. The game also sold 50k copies out of the gate thanks to the pre-order bonus tiers. One of the best selling JRPGs on Steam, Nier Automata, only did 22k concurrent players peak at launch which is not even close to PC RPGs.

After all is said and done, I believe NNK2 will be selling as much as Berseria, 250k copies in a year.

I almost feel bad for writing this, but am I the only one who just isnt feeling this game? Maybe its the easiness, slightly generic story and not very memorable characters... cant put my finger on it. Something just feels off...?

So close to the 100th citizen. Need to grind my army troops and finish all of the dreamer's doors and then finally I can upgrade my kingdom to level 4... hopefully. Excited for the true endgame content, there's so many sidequests and things I can't finish right now because I need materials that can only be found in the endgame dungeon.

Btw Anyone know where to find Smelly shoes?

You haven't read previous pages, huh?

I'm on the last stretch of the game. Debating on recruiting all citizens or just power through the last chapter and do rest rest post game.

Have you gone back to Capstan recently? Between checking out all of the old cities and the errand merchant to trade for tips on new citizens, you should find people soon.

To the person above, smelly is a random prefix on loot. Delve into the dreamer's doors and crank up the equipment drop rate in your tactic tweaker.

One question to the players who reached the Sea city...
The game improves its pacing by then?
Because I'm sick of the casino town, the last hours have been doing the quests for accessing the bookhouse and exploring the worldmap around the city.
No dungeons, only revisiting places and recruiting people in the same city...

Alright, at least the final dreamer's maze provides some challenge. And apparently enemies go above lvl 100.

Yeah, it opens up a bit. You´ll get more freedom choosing sidequests and managing your kingdom instead of hanging around in Goldpaw.

I don't think it is a quest because that is a yellow triangle with star. I am talking about when you open the map you see locale then you can go out further for an overview of entire world.

I believe those are your fast travel points on the overworld. The trip doors that don't correspond to a specific map point just get blue arrows to indicate that you can fast travel there.

Some of the text in this game is annoying small. I wish at least dialogue text had a unified (and more comfortably legible) size. Very unfortunate.

I have to agree. The story is lacking. I just got to Capstan upon Hull, though, so I'm expecting it to ramp up. Skirmishes are meh...I like the kingdom building and citizen recruitment parts of the game, though. If they didn't exist, I think the game would be lacking. Dragon Age Inquisition should have used this kind of system.

The skirmish near Goldpaw where you need to run after the guy was frustrating as hell. Took me 6 tries with my lv16 crew (recommended level was 19 I think) but I finally did it!

So no one is having HDR issues on PS4? Posted it earlier but no responses
I think there's HDR issues with the game. There's been a few times where the screen will randomly dim. I'll go to the ps4 menu and it'll be dim. I'll go to my TV menu and it will be fine. Messing with the TV settings don't do anything. I can fix it by turning HDR off and on again in game menu. Never had this issue with other HDR games. If it keeps happening might just keep it off.

Picked this up at launch but I'm going to wait until 1) I finish Ni no Kini 1 or 2) my PS4 Pro gets here. I preordered the GoW one so I have about a month to finish. Love the story but f the first one but I'm not a huge fan of the combat. So still looking forward to this.

Shame it isn't selling well, but yeah, some of their regional pricing is a joke and will be a factor.

Of course piracy would have hurt, but most pirates never intend on buying the games anyway.

Ok, are there only like 4 Higgeldie skills or so? They all have the same, just a different combinations, element and character.

I have no clue what role the character plays. The tutorial tip said to "balance things out" but I have no clue what the up/downside here is. What elements should I take? Is it only relevant for the skill-boosting charge? (why would anyone use that to begin with)

Yes I have. Got over 10 people that way. Side quest requirements are getting harder, still haven't been able to find poisonous fish for example. But money is at least pouring in - 65k /hour

It might be a found only item, but it could also be something your fish market produces at rank 3. Although I still have no fucking clue as to how the gathering/what items end up in your stores works. Your production facilities also seem to influence what appears at the general market, although I don't know how that works either.

Just got the game. Fuck that stealth section, I hope that's the only time for it. The dialogue subtitle is too damn small and disappeared before I even got a chance to read it. It's like a flash. Also the hint below minimap is so annoying and there's no HUD customization. Other than that I quite like this game, especially the music.
