Started episode 1 of the new season and I'm right back in this shit again :D Can't wait to get through this.

Consensus seems to be it's better than the Aloha season (which I skipped because of the reception)?

Yeah. Aloha is the worst season in TH's history. You won't miss a lot if you skip it tbh, there's only 2 or 3 interesting people in it.

Opening New Doors pretty much destroyed it in like 8 episodes.

You should watch it. People make a big fuss about the differences but to be honest it feels like any other season of the show, just sunnier.
Thing is, I don't have too much time for long shows like that, so I'd rather it be good and also I'm more interested in the Japanese perspective and Aloha sounded like it mostly had Americans in the cast, no?

There's 3 or 4 non-Japanese members over the course of the season, but it's not even the problem. It's the complete lack of chemistry between a lot of people, and an overall uninteresting location.

I've been watching the Boys & Girls Next Door fansubs and it's kinda funny how when people start leaving they get genuinely hyper upset as though the departing housemates are dying because the format is still new and they don't know if they'll ever see each other again.

I mean, it's not just Slow Down (which is the highest priority), but the new song that plays during "Fuji Television presents" is garbage too.

Intro music downgrade. Also why'd they reuse the Taishi music from aloha for the out tro lol

Thoughts so far...after two episodes.

Yuudai panda thing is weird. I suppose it's better that he got that out of the way first though lol

Ami...Total mean girl act in that scene with her college friends.

Shion seems like your glasses nice guy hot friend from an anime lol

Old guy. Don't really see him dating any of these girls. He's giving off that big brother vibe that guys like Eric and Han-San has in previous seasons.

BxG Next Door should really be called "Boys x Girls really love alcohol" some of these people get black out drunk lol

And I really like Momo.

Edit: Rie is so thirsty for Makun you can see her heart break when he talks about leaving the house lol

I feel that having Rie there was a mistake. I understand the publicity stunt part of it, plus not everyone goes to TH to find a partner, but having someone, who (almost) can't be in a relationship no matter what was kind of a buzzkill and felt like a wasted slot to me after a while.

Agree. The show feels very experimental, so far, in these first 12 episodes. Since I've heard good things about this first series I'm guessing it will find its footing pretty soon.

She was way into him though, and its pretty obvious lol. I kind of feel sorry for her because she knows, and we know, she can't do anything about it.

Also, I feel like Tecchan is, what Yuudai should've been, if he wasn't a psychopath lol

Why is mizuki crying. I know yuudai is clueless but...So confused.
I think she was drunk enough that she'd have cried about anything (unless I'm remembering it wrong).
So do the commentators ever come to be a part of BxG Next Door or did that start later or something? I think I'm on like episode 7.
Yes:
Triendl joins at Episode 14 and the rest of the panel at 26.

Blew through the first set of Opening New Doors. Thankfully we got Yuudai to make things cringe and awkaward otherwise this would be a boiling season so far. Also Shimon is the Japanese Paul Dano.

I went from "Yuudai is alright he's just a kid he's gonna be fine" to "How the fuck did this guy even survive in life until now" so fucking fast.

The wait for the next batch of episodes is going to be hard.

I turned on Yuudai after the outlet trip. I so related to Mizuki's outburst.

At that point he went from "immature kid that never had to take care of himself" to "spoiled brat that doesn't want to take responsibility in life."

I'll be honest, when they showed his meeting with his mom, I expected her to be totally different than she was. For someone as spoiled as he is, I expected her to be more stereotypical, she looked almost like the kind who would just let her kids fend for themselves. I wonder if its the father who spoils him.

Edit: edited post because it might have been a little spoilery.

I bailed on Aloha State midway through and watching OND is like a breath of fresh air. Just finished watching ep 3 and this season is like a goddamn anime. I almost spit out my drink when I saw the one girl's friend had an eyepatch. I always thought that was just some moe shit, but turns out it's a real thing I guess. Also, mad respect to Tsubasa's dad, raising two daughters by himself while running his own soba shop. Tsubasa is the team captain who only has one year left to lead her hockey team to victory.

Also - they changed the opening theme and it has made me irrationally upset. >:(
Also - is it just me or does Ami have an annoyed look on her face at all times? Maybe not annoyed, but almost anytime there's a group shot if you look at Ami she's completely expressionless like she's doing everything she can to just tolerate these people. It could be that's just her natural resting face, but given how she dunked on everyone in the house with her friends, I'm reading it like she can't stand the other people in the house.

Yeah, Ami really rubs me the wrong way.

On another note, Shion is Aizen. Like, when they showed him modeling, without his glasses, yeah. He's Aizen.

Looks like terrible house got an eviction notice.
Whelp, that's that... Maybe they shouldn't have touched OND. I doubt Netflix would've cared much if they just stuck with fansubbing the Fuji TV ones.

But thanks for reminding me to get this week's episode!

EDIT: D'oh, the no new ep this week? Boo this!

she's lucky that yuudai is in the house to distract the housemates from this

I presumed it was due to an injury? Haha.

Ami's eyepatch friend made me have the same reaction. I just yelled "ANIME IS REAL!" and my girlfriend was so confused. My girlfriend's reactions to this show have also been entertaining because she has had little to no exposure to Japanese culture/entertainment

OND has been great so far.

I think Shion looks like superman. Everytime I see Shion, the model, it reminds me of superman clark kent from Smallville.

Yuudai reminds me of myself when I was 20. Atleast Yudai is brave enough to ask girls out or go into random restaurants to ask for job openings. I'm too shy to do that in my 20s.

I think she just can't emote. Her face is always just "whatever," whether she's annoyed, happy, or actually indifferent.

No, but assuming around the end of May, since there's four more episodes to air in Japan during the next month, and it took a month between ep8 in Japan airing and Part 1 releasing globally.
