I don't recall your names... but whoever you are, thanks for being super weird, non-blood thirsty pirating thieves. You're playing the game wrong, btw. =)
Great lil story! And nonsense... half the time i play like a steal everything our-crew-first pirate and the other half of the time i really enjoy trying to team and help as many other pirates as i can. So many ways to "play the game".

Had a interesting interaction with a group of two pirates last night... there is definitely nothing quite like this game.

Hearing stories like this makes me love the game even more! I can't wait to get home and play tonight!

I wish I could meet friendly pirates more often. Except for my first visit of a skeleton fort, all other attempts to go and only do my part in such events was met with immediate hostility. I think sloop players are more friendly than galleon ones. Obviously teams of 4 feel confident enough to take on a fort by themselves, but I'm sure a little help could be useful.
Yesterday I was waiting hidden in a corner of a fort, watching the other team battle skeletons. I see one guy having difficulties, so I thought it was the right moment to show my support. I go straight to the skeletons to help him... and he shot me. :(

Really like the idea of voting for merchant voyages, getting coops/cages/baskets, canceling them, and going on real voyages.
Did this last night to quickly pump up my merchant rank from 19 to 20 while doing other voyages. Was relieved the only other ship in the area i was operating in was a sloop that was quietly doing voyages and leaving me alone.
tumblr_p68irbtT1n1qejutxo1_1280.png

Although doing this made me wonder when merchant quests get interesting. I popped off a bunch of rank 15 voyages and they were all the same single map "Bring me 2-3 animals" quests I was doing without having to spend money when i started the game. At least give me multiple shipments to fulfill at different outposts to make me juggle my time or something

You're right, you're right! I was glad to assist them and equally glad that they helped us out. I felt a little bad though as just fifteen minutes prior we had taken on a solo sloop and stolen two-thirds of their treasure!

Why do our player characters have skeletons? When a character loads in to a game you can see they are bothering to render your skeleton for a split second. Is this for an eventual cursed chest or something?

I don't even waste my time with merchant quests anymore, I just do the other two and slowly rank up with gunpowder barrels and spice/silk/tea crates. I figure it's the one faction that's guaranteed to be reworked at some point due to how universally disliked it is, so I'd rather wait until that happens.

Very well. I personally don't have a lot of nice things to say about the store in general right now. It doesn't even have a dedicated 'active downloads' page AFAIK. You have to navigate aaaaall the way to the game to even tell if it's updating or not.
When you have the store open, click the three horizontal dots next to your profile pic. First option that will pop us is "Downloads and Updates". There you'll see items that have been updated and the status of those downloading/updating.

I've already been doing the merchant workaround as solo to grab the golden pigs. It's so much work feeding those damn things!

I want to point out that this map has saved me quite a bit. There's a few times where it's been inaccurate but i'd give it a 9/10 on being helpful.

I wanted to also point out for those doing the get animal missions + cancel is a great idea, but it does potentially leave you open to a lot of looting if you get a ton. What might be a far more economical approach is whenever you spawn into the game, make a quick trip to the nearest fort (if it's not full Skeleton cloud). There's usually a decent amount of gunpowder barrels on them (usually between 3-6) and you can bring them back and sell them to the merchant for some quick gold and rank points. It also gives you some free ammo for bad boy stuff if you want to go that route.

Watching him turn in captain chests and get a sliver of a level at 34 is just disheartening. Most people will never reach endgame and even people putting in crazy hours will take months. For a game so desperately needing endgame it seems ridiculous to have it locked behind that much of a grind. It's one thing for the grind to be like PSO where max level is more of a personal goal but in a game where cosmetics are everything and the default ones are a bit limiting this seems like an insane decision.

Merchant Alliance definitely needs a buff.
The voyages are short. You have to return to an Outpost before starting another voyage. The rewards are often lackluster.

I feel like it is an activity designed to be completed in the background of other voyages, but you cannot run multiple voyages simultaneously.

I presume that legendary voyages will have significantly higher returns, that's why pirate legends will be highly sought-after at first. In time there will be more pirate legends, and they will in turn help more and more people reach the status.

Paired with the assumption that, legendary quests aren't going to radically give you new objectives and offer no further cosmetic upgrades, this would be the most problematic issue for the game yet. Really hoping that theres at least a new faction at legendary status.

why do gun-only skeleton waves even spawn when youre playing solo. trying to thin the herd that can shred your health in seconds isnt fun

Any news on if it's back up on game pass yet? Only night I've had to play since Thursday and it's been down all night

A friend and I spent a few hours doing some level 25 gold hoarder voyages this afternoon, we had about 25 chests or so on board. We set off for the last island before we were to go sell at the outpost when a sloop closed in on us and gave chase for a good 20 minutes. We didn't want to risk the fight and had way too much treasure to loose, but we couldn't get away safely. Running out of options, I spotted a galleon parked on the horizon and made a beeline straight for it.

I yelled out to the man on the ship for help in exchange for treasure but he opened fire on us. The boat chasing us sailed passed and took a hit or two, so I looped the island and went back around, eventually the galleon took up a proper fight against the persuer.

We got away and cashed in our loot. Was intense and risky. Felt good.

Has anyone broke down the best way to grab cash solo? I'm a pauper pirate with not a lot of friends...

Should I just suck it up and be social on the discord to get the good gold? I need those fancy hats...

This would actually be a really smart way to handle the "endgame" and really feeds into the next phase they were kind of hyping.

The reward would be actual fame.

Having a friend is helpful, but you get the same amount of gold regardless. Avoid all ships and just go at your own pace, don't be afraid of having treasure on board unless it's marauders or captains. It's not worth traveling out of your way to an outpost just to sell a couple of seafarers chests. Fill up on voyages and pop on a podcast while going island to island.

I have got as much as a skeleton forts worth of gold just doing that when I'm feeling antisocial.

I mainly play solo and id say most of my gold comes from scavenging sunken ships and looting islands I stop at while on voyages.

A good shipwreck can have several high rank items and I've come across quite a few with gold villainous bounty skulls, which are great. Higher rank Order of Souls voyages become borderline impossible to do while solo, so Gold Hoarders are typically the voyages I use, and while at whatever island I'm working on Ill search the island from top to bottom. Islands often have books, animal cages, washed up treasures & artifacts, gunpowder barrels (can be sold to trade merchant), and most importantly messages in a bottle. Messages in a bottle take priority for me since almost all of them that I have done have lead to great rewards.

Oh my god I can't play the game because Rare/Microsoft is fucking everything up with game pass. Seriously ticking me off. Microsoft Store is such a mess for games right now it's not even funny. No exclusive full-screen, a lot of important settings missing. Shit breaking. Downloads worse than Playstation Network speeds. Updates taking hours upon hours, and you have to download the entire game afterwards.

I JUST WANT STEAM. I ONLY WANT STEAM. Microsoft, if you won't even try to get on Steam's level then you bet your ass I'll stay the fuck away from everything Microsoft Store from now on.

These issues with Sea of Thieves today are affecting the Xbox and PC versions equally.

why would the incentive to seek legends be problematic? the draw of being a legendary pirate is the "celebrity" status. everyone will want to play with you / rob you, because your voyages and possessions are more valuable. that's what makes reaching the end game so special.

hopefully there are new factions, but i think it would be better if they provided content for all levels of player, but had exclusive content for Legendary Voyages.

THe windows store is always so slow for me. It has downloaded 27.19GB now of the update. I am sure the full game was only 20gb last time. Anyone able to confirm what size their latest version was?

I was doing an order of souls quest and died a couple of times while trying to fight a wave of gun totting skeletons. When I spawned back on the island I wasn't able to get the skeletons to spawn again. The game kept playing the music like skeletons were supposed to be there, but they never showed. It was going to be the 4th boss skeleton of a big quest, so I was pissed that I couldn't get him to show. There goes 2 hours...

Don't threads go to 20k posts?
It is either 200 pages or 20k posts, whichever comes first. And especially in this case of this game it'd be good to start fresh and clearer.

Edit: Actually it seems best to keep it open for longer, I've noticed some other recent OT's going to 20k posts instead. I'll just update the OP with some clearer videos and info from past launch :)
