I did, the main issue for me was actually getting the exploit to work. And yeah, Keeping your console disconnected from PSN will keep you from getting banned. I think there's a way to remove the ability to do that without jumping through a bunch of hoops, but I haven't done it myself.

Thanks.

I'm not interested in playing any games online so that's good. I'll just keep my PS3 unplugged. Updated Zone of the Enders 2 beforehand knowing that going in so otherwise I'm good.

Go Shiina's going to be the musical guest for the first day of the Tales Festival this year. As far as I can remember in the past they just went with one of the bands/singers they've partnered with over the years over any of the composers. You usually can't figure out what will or won't be announced just off the guest list, but it'll be kinda interesting to see if he was also chosen because they plan on announcing something he's involved in.

Usually stuff like announcements and trailers for big titles are scheduled for the first day, and extras like mobile games and anime are saved for the second day.

It'd be pretty hilarious if Shiina leaving the company lead to him being more involves in the series lol. Not that I'd complain, of course.

Also, after thinking of things I would like to see added to the games to make them a bit more interesting, I ended up thinking up an entire new battle system too and ended up bumming myself out knowing that it would never be one that I'd have a chance to make...

Did they ever do announcements in conjunction with the concert of the day? Tales of Festival 2015 had a Sakuraba concert on the first day (http://tof.tales-ch.jp/festival2015/cast/) and that wasn't combined with any sort of announcement. The curious part about Shiina is that he may be the first music artist to not play any instrument or sing at the live concert (I don't even have any idea if they make it a band or small orchestra/ensemble concert, but with Shiina's luck so far it will probably be a big orchestra with choir instead...).

Can I ask you another question? I know you're not supposed to use your main account on a modded PS3, but what I did was go on PSN to download games I purchased onto my new fat PS3, and then I signed out of PSN to do the modding. Am I safe as long as I modded while signed out or did I just screw myself?

Ah so Sakuraba did do a show. I had this feeling that he did one before but will admit I was lazy and didn't want to dig through all the Festival sites to figure out which one it was. Turns out it wasn't that long ago. :P

Berseria was announced on the first day of the 2015 event, but as far as I know it wasn't aligned with Sakuraba's appearance that year. A lot of the VAs on the first day so far are from Legendia and Zestiria, so I assume they're doing some sort of orchestrated performance of his compositions for those games to match the theme.

Rule of thumb is that your account is safe so long as you do not log into PSN while on CFW. So yes, you're safe.

If I just finished up
getting the therion from Velvet's village
how much longer do I have left in the game roughly?

I want to see this through but I'm starting to want to play another game, and if I don't finish this now then I'll never come back to it.

Currently going for my Berseria plat and it's making me hungry for some new Tales. Really hope we get some news in the next few months.

I managed to get back into my Hearts R NG+ that I sort of dropped a while back, and just got through the volcano area, and... uh...

Is it just me or does it seem in extremely poor taste to have jokes with characters getting set on fire almost immediately after Peridot and Pyrox die in a volcano? Also, that scene in question was really poorly done. I saw some clips of the DS version that showed Chal without his Soma, so he wasn't able to fly over to them and save them, whereas in this version the volcano just conveniently starts spewing out a wall of fire preventing him from getting over to them...

Edit: And then a hot spring scene immediately after where Kohaku is literally just like "Too bad about those two, huh?"

Yeah, the presentation is pretty poor overall too. And I feel like if they didn't try to to any action heavy scenes, it wouldn't seem nearly as bad but they were clearly trying to do more with this game than they were capable of in some aspects, probably because of both budget and talent (since this seems to have only been 7th Chords 2nd game with 3D models, the first being Innocence R as far as I can tell).

Also, I feel like a minority when it comes to sub only games, but a dub would have really helped my enjoyment of this quite a bit. Despite only having a weeb level understanding of Japanese (basically just being able to recognize a few words here and there) it's pretty easy to tell that the text doesn't match what's being said a lot of the time, differing in either the actual words being said of the tone of it. I actually turned the voices off and that made it a lot better, although it makes battles feel kind of lifeless.

Got back into berseria recently.

I really enjoy this cast.

Glad they rebounded after zesty.

I think I'm near the end.

Hearts R makes me mad because that fucking balloon trophy prevented me from getting my damn platinum. And due to losing my save, I never will RIP.

I finally beat Beseria.

Overall it was decent, the cast was easily the best part, but everything else was pretty mediocre.

The battle system is needlessly complicated for what amounts to something that is rather shallow.

The environments are incredibly lackluster, repetitive and tedious.

They missed a huge opportunity to do more with the pirate aspect of the game too. Sailing amounts to watching the ship icon move across a 2D map, when they could've gone back to having an overworld that you could navigate and explore. The expeditions don't require anything beyond sending them out every 30 minutes. You get a hideout (briefly) which could've been a cool mini base-building thing, but is just monotonous every time you go back.

If the next Tales game isn't a really big improvement then I can see myself skipping out on the games for a while again.

I do kind of wonder if they'll ever do another game in the Zesteria/Berseria world, since you could see from the expedition map that there were a shit load of areas beyond the continents you were able to explore on foot, and the ending kind of implied that despite the different geography, you were still just exploring the same landmasses as in Zesteria. Of course I wouldn't want them to do it right away, maybe back off from this setting for a while before going back like Destiny 2/Symphonia.

Just beat berseria.

Fun game. It's one of the better games in the franchise history.

I'm a little miffed about Eizen though. Was expecting some post credit scenes with him regarding his zesty fate.

Did I miss something? Is there more that I should be doing?

No, they et you fill in the gaps. Now, we just need a game that follow Eizen as the protag and how he met that fate....

That or watch the anime "Tales of Zestiria the X". They deal a little with his fate there.

Really hoping whatever that game is supposed to come out on Switch ISN'T a full on new game. I'm already rubbed the wrong way with how Namco Bandai has oversaturated this IP, similar to Nintendo and Fire Emblem. It's really one of the two last IPs they even give a damn about anymore.

You think so? They've actually slowed down quite a bit compared to the ps2/psp/ds days. Nothing will ever top Rebirth, Legendia, and Abyss all coming out in the span of one year. And that's not even counting the slew of escort titles that came out in the time when the games weren't being localized, when all they really have now is Tales of the Rays and I think one other mobile game. Might be misunderstanding what you mean by overasaturated though.

I don't think the series is oversaturated, but I do think the quality of the games has gone down since Xillia, and they've yet to change the design flaws with that game all the way to Berseria.

Used that 20% off coupn to get Berseria and the classic Tales outfits. I wanted to get the high school outfits, but jesus fuck that shit was $12. Completely ridiculous!

Man does Zestiria pick up? I just received the fire party member and exploring the dungeon right after, but man none of the characters are interesting so far and I'm not feeling the gameplay.

Wait till you get all 4 elemental party members on your team. If you're still not feeling it, then drop it.

Yeah, costume DLC for JRPGs have been freaking ridiculous this generation. P5 and the Trails series are just as guilty of this. At least Berseria has a decent amount of in game costumes. More than I could say about the Xillias and Zestiria.

Just got an in-game notification that Bandai-Namco is shutting down the worldwide version of Tales of the Rays (iOS/Android) on May 29. The game came out last summer, so it won't even be a year old when it goes offline, not to mention they just shut down Tales of Link like yesterday, too. It looks like they're keeping the Japanese version of the game running, so I guess they just don't want to bother with the western audience.

god that really sucks since rays was awesome, but I can't imagine either game was pulling in a lot of money, rays especially since you're not even pulling for characters, who the hell is gonna pay for swords and mystic artes

So I want to play a Tales game and I have 2 options easily available to me. Tales of the Abyss 3DS and Symphonia GC (pal version).

I don't want to base my purchase on which is the better game cause the opinions differ greatly. I just want to know which of the two is the better buy when considering these drawbacks.

Symphonia:
50hz/50fps, 576i (supposedly doesn't have 480i 60hz option).
Used game.
More expensive.
Dual disc inconvenience.

Abyss:
Lower framerate port (30fps battles).
Long rpg on uncomfortable handheld inconvenience.

Or should I just want until I build my pc (summer) and get Zestiria or Berseria on there?

What would you guys suggest?

Generally speaking, I would always recommend Symphonia before TotA.
That said, with the scenario you've presented, I'd recommend TotA if only for the convenience it brings.
That, and you might as well get Symphonia HD instead of the GC original, once you've built your PC.

The 30 fps in Symphonia HD really doesn't matter too much, I would just wait to play that

I think Abyss is a better game than Symphonia though, and the 3DS port is pretty good

Guess I can try JP then while they're doing anniversary stuff.

Really odd considering they are moving all of Link's story over to Rays to make up for the former's closure. I guess it's just not profitable enough for them outside of Japan.

Yeah, it was a shock to hear.

At least Tales of Link had the excuse that it was shutting down worldwide (so WW and JP servers) and they completed the main story arc. Rays only shutting down WW servers stings way more considering it didn't even make it till it's 1st anniversary and Tales of Link fans were just starting to migrate over to Rays.

Wow, so westerners won't even get to touch Mirage Prison? Suck for those that liked Rays, but I found I could never get into it. Tales gameplay doesn't mesh well with gacha style mechanics, and whenever I played I kept thinking about playing RM3 instead.

this is basically the only answer

Thank you. I think I'll get Abyss right now then. I'll probably get Symphonia HD later too. I just hope that the older battle system won't feel like a big step back at that point.

Going from Abyss to Symphonia isn't that huge a transition since, aside from movement, they play somewhat similar in regards to battles.

The gap would be a LOT larger if you were to go from, say, Graces or Berseria to Symphonia. Speaking only for myself, I can barely play Symphonia anymore after the improvements from Graces/Berseria.

How early does free run unlock in Abyss?
