So what kind of "builds" are you guys going for with the perks? What are the priorities?

I'm thinking about waiting to have enough points to unlock the holster asap cause I hate to only have 2 weapons but other than that I don't really know where to go... Too many perks I want!
Ditto on the more guns perks, also went for more HP, more medkits, reduced weapon sway for rifles, and the utility items like parachute, wing suit, and repair torch.

Final weapon build will probably be similar to what I used in 4:
- Scoped AR that can go full auto
- Sniper rifle
- Grenade launcher side arm
- Either a bow or heavy machine gun

Man I love Far Cry games, just pure dumb fun. I've recorded so much and laughed my ass off more than a few times already.

Fuck me, I didn't know quests were missable in this game!

I was mainly exploring the map a bit and doing the roster missions/prepper areas and then I got a message that Falls End took back their town.

I REALLY wish I knew this could happen, I didn't want to miss out on a MAIN mission because I got sidetracked, it's bullshit too that you can't simply reload an earlier save, sigh.

Anyone know why I cant drive in farcry? I only ever go at like 5 mph. I can reverse just fine though.

Even dropped a new car in arcade and get the same result.

This is the third time my character has been stuck in a downed position because he can't be healed. Gotta love Ubisoft games.

Speaking of driving, how can I throw boomer in my truck? I feel like running over cultists with him riding shotgun

When Ubisoft said it would take 25 hours to beat the main story alone... smh

I imagine it's a much longer game for the vast majority of people, i still have a few main missions I can do and I managed to really optimize my playstyle early on.

I didn't skip cutscenes or went out of my way to only do story missions I just flew around the world with the wingsuit doing missions, liberating outposts, doing stunts and finding hidden stashes.

I still have a fair bit left to do, preying my game isn't glitched when launching it again tomorrow.

Might be your controller, had the same issue with ghost recon wildlands, cars wouldnt "kick" into the next gear, Rt trigger is probably going (i assume its RT in farcry i dont own it yet).

One of my favorite things to do in this game is opening doors by kicking them in, smashing the glass. The gun merchant of Fall's End is gonna have to get used to it, cause it's my main move.

Thank you to the Ubisoft people responsible for the doorkicking.

Are you me? Because that also very quickly became my favourite thing to do after discovering it early on.

Although my new method right now is throwing melee weapons at doors to open them and catching them midair

Don't sleep on the shovel people, it's pretty much a spear if you throw it

I'm taking my sweet time, and lounging about every time I spot an arcade machine. I got up to level fourteen and about a dozen and a half maps in that mode, last night. Lots of people being goofballs and picking the shittiest maps, and everyone still having a good time of it. A couple more I enjoyed, the DOTA-esque one, where there seem to be lanes and bases, and creep camps of bears you have to steal weapons from. It was awful, but I like the idea. Also fun, the jail riot one. People running around shanking, batting and clubbing each other in near dark and fire. Back to the game proper, I liberated Hope's Falls and got abducted once, and that's about it for story. Map screen shows a ridiculous amount yet to do. Most of my focus has been spent recruiting sidekicks and vehicles. I hike everywhere and avoid the roads, with mostly Boomer or Jess by my side. I'm going for bow/silenced weapons as my first play focus. Fishing is pretty fun.

I impulse bought this game just now, I couldn't help myself- I honestly feel like its been years since I played a straight FPS game (as in, one that's not an immersive sim or RPG).

The flavor text on all the items is pretty great.

Why is a bear skin rug always in a sky diving pose

At least you can see the damage. It's the damage we carry on the inside that's the real problem

I'm dying so fast in this game. There are cultists everywhere, I get shot like 3 times and I die. Jeez. Doesn't look like theres much hunting which is very disappointing.

I was expecting a game up to the quality of AC:O, but this is so far below in every aspect.

The gameplay loop is still satisfying, but this game just lacks personality. It's fucking dry, like Wildlands

I'm enjoying it so far, but I've only played for 3 hrs. The biggest issue I'm having is with the aiming and seeming lack of noticeable aim assist, Xbox X. I just feel like I'm spraying all over the place and getting jacked up as a result. I'm a seasoned FPS player, so it's coming as a bit of a shock. Anyway, I'm having fun, and it certainly looks really good, if not quite up to the X/4K hype I have been reading. Good stuff.

Kyrat is the only FC location I haven't liked. Traversal was a massive chore.

That said, if FC 6 could be located in a mountainous area of Japan ...

If you don't hunt, you won't have much money to spend.

At the rate I'm getting perks and money I'm gonna be way OP and have everything good by the time I'm done with the first area. I don't really see anything worthwhile to spend money on that can't just be found in the world

This game is bananas.

Stayed up to 3a last night and skipped work today and still working through Johns section. Bow FTW.

Loving Boomer as a companion, mildly hate the plane controls, love the gameplay, especially the Prepper stash puzzles and implore Devs to patch the constant enemy road engagements.

Game is mindless fun with endless Ubi things to get distracted by. It literally took me 6 minutes to fight and land my first trout.

Interesting that you found Kyrat a more enjoyable location, I actually feel the opposite. Montana may now be my favorite Far Cry setting. The rolling fields, dense forests and streams really do it for me. In contrast I found Kyrat somewhat bland visually and found the mountainous terrain made traversal a bit of a chore.

I'm actually curious what other people think of the Montana setting.
Ubi's depiction of Montana is gorgeous for sure. I'm finding that I don't have any "WOW" moments, outside of the game just being a technical and artistic marvel in general.
Coming out of AC: Origins' vast desert landscapes, I feel a bit underwhelmed. The map actually feels small to me, although I wonder if I'm just spoiled by how huge Origins and GR: Wildlands are.
But then again, after cruising around 2/3rds of the map, I can't help but feel everything feels a bit samey.

I got attacked by three wolves at once, seems pretty true to life. Felt bad killing them :/

So my friend is raging because apparently if you're playing co-op, it only saved for the host player?

Is that true?

I believe so yes. It seems like a huge oversight. A game like this, you should be able to play the entire game with your friend.

Speaking of missing out on story missions, I don't think I'm going to get Hit The Gas to trigger for me.

It's the mission after The Widowmaker (which was great fun) but here's the thing, I had already liberated Holland Valley from John Seed so I don't think those cult tankers are driving around anymore. And usually I just blew those fuckers up anyways. The mission is to bring back two gas tankers to Falls End but the game is deciding it can't process the mission due to the lack of an imminent threat.

So I'm currently at 49/52 missions in the valley. I still need to do the fetch quests (lighters and comic books) and this Hit The Gas mission but I'm just gonna toss my hands in the air and move on to Faith's district.

Perk points and crafting etc will carry over to the co-op persons game but missions and stuff aren't affected. It goes back to where that person was before co-op.

That makes absolutely no sense. A massive design oversight.

Going through Jacob's final section is hands down the most compelled I've felt playing a Far Cry game. It's head and shoulders above the rest of the game for me so far, mechanically, tonally, and thematically, especially in how it took a purposefully rote narrative and mechanic design that the game otherwise suffers from and tied it into Jacob's character specifically. It executed and clicked with me in a way that a shooter hasn't since Spec Ops: The Line. It's fantastic. I am calling it now that it will be the primary narrative take away from this game when it is referred back to in the future.

YgeClDd.gif

It's baffling to me how much the section stands above the rest of the game-maybe even the series in general-and it likewise solidifies my opinion that FC5 serves as more of a sequel to Far Cry 2 than Far Cry 3, not only in gameplay but in tone, setting, and theme.

If you're still browsing here, Karak, I'm going to guess Jacob's section is what you alluded to as standing above the rest of the story in your review.

Played a bit more with my friend last night, and it just works so well in co-op. We've been having so much fun, and a big part of that is due to the gameplay. It feels really fun to control.
