Hot Take: I think Ohtani will be a bust. He may be one of the better "All-Around" players in the MLB but that doesn't matter too much ESPECIALLY in the American league where he chose to play for some reason. He's a good hitter and a good pitcher, but he would be way more valuable if he were All-Star calibur in one of those two areas.

I think he could still be an all star pitcher given development

He was never meant to be a phenomenal hitter but someone who was very good for a pitcher

The Yankees were older than the Red Sox last season, nearly older than 50% of the other clubs...

And by your definition literally every team besides the ones with bad farms were rebuilding, besides the Braves, as everyone's average age was below 30, except for them which was 30.4

So your criteria also implies the Braves arent rebuilding.

look at that, rebuilding with older players than your red sucks and we still got better. does it eat away at you, keep you up nights? maybe watching a 14 year old highlight will help you.
also your definition of rebuilding is quite narrow and doesn't take into account many factors. sorry the Yankees are better at it. you may want to actually take a moment before you post.
or post the 2004 ALCS again, whatever man, gotta cling to something.

Well, I hope you just remember how well adding an MVP to an already successful team went for y'all, thinking you had an easy path to a ring, in the year following.

My favorite thing about the season starting up is Salvy somehow injuring himself moving luggage and tearing his MCL and being out 4-6 weeks THE DAY BEFORE THE GODDAMN SEASON STARTS ITS ALL DOWNHILL FROM HERE ROYALS BROS CHOO CHOO 1ST ROUND PICK HERE WE COMEEEEE

Just saw the news. Fuck.

My wife wasn't a Royals fan during the cellar days, so she's ecstatic about the season starting. I'm not sure she'll feel the same a month from now.

She merely adopted the dark. I was born in it, molded by it. I didn't see the light until I was already a man, by then it was nothing to me but blinding.

I admit I only started really paying attention to the team towards the tail end of the great dark times but I remember growing up how bad they were. I am prepared for how bad this team is going to be. Just means cheap tickets babyyy.

Depends on who's pitching. Our pen is gonna be trash, Duda's probably playing first. Whit Merrifield is a goddamn stud at 2nd and probably our best player overall to be honest. I'm hoping Jorge Soler finally has that breakout year because he's been raking in ST but god who even knows anymore. The team is gonna be hot smelly trash. Honestly I have no idea what our starting outfield is going to look like sans Alex Gordon in left which at this point lol.

The amount of people in this thread that think the American League plays baseball and not glorified slightly nerfed softball is sad to me.

Oh, favorite moment?

The American League has always relied on stupid gimmicks to forestall themselves from their inevitable trip to history's trash heap. Whether it's their historical penchant for making its clubs crappy off-brands of NL ones, using mob money to fix the World Series and All-Star Game, or just desecrating the basal structure of the game by replacing the pitcher's spot in the batting lineup with a fat 40 year old who can't field anymore, the AL has consistently been an embarrassment to the game from the very beginning. Bright will be the day when the National League of Professional Baseball Clubs is once again the most popular sporting organization in the country, the Super Bowl gets beaten in ratings by reruns of Good Times, the LeBron James Association shortens its season again, and any person who utters the words "designated hitter" in a positive context is suddenly stricken dumb and has all food turn to ash in their mouth.

Minute Maid Park should be demolished and salt strewn across the ground where it stood. Fuck that disgrace to the sport.

Every year prior to 2016 since I've been alive. There are knowledgeable Cubs fans, but there are far more meatballs. Go to Murph's and sit down and talk to a random person about Chicago sports. Most are idiots

Name me a major City that isn't? I often talk to others fans when the Cubs play them at Wrigley and/or around the bars and they are just as stupid. This isn't exclusive to Cubs fans, but in sports fans in general.

Let me clue you in to a little secret you'll eventually find out: the general population for any sports are meatballs.

I was really looking forward to watching baseball today, but oh well. I guess I'd rather the Reds call it early than get my hopes up and then there be a rain out.

It doesn't quite feel like opening day in Cincinnati when the parade isn't until Monday, though.

Opening day. Filled with optimism and happiness. Let's go Mets. It has been too long without baseball. Here's to a fun season.

Going to the Jays' game today. So much optimism. Our starting rotation is rock solid. Please stay healthy this year.

Best day of the year! Let's go Yanks.

I will be missing the game today because of work obligations but I will be watching a lot this weekend!

Boo Barves, go Phillies.

Seriously though, the team slogan this year is #BeBold, which is like the most generic thing I can think of for a team. A lot of "pundits" seem to like the Phillies this year to make a run at the wild card, and I don't see it at all. I think this team would be incredibly lucky to win 75 games, let alone 80 games. We'll see.

EDIT: RIP Rusty.

Ah the long night is over.

Even though I think the Mets are sneaky good, all I ask to be happy is Syndergaard and DeGrom arms not exploding.

It doesn't feel like baseball time yet. Feels too early even though the season would only usually start a few days later. Not that I'm complaining.

My White Sox should be slightly better than last year, but still below .500. The Cubs should be really good, even if their bullpen is shaky.
