Picked this up yesterday as soon as I heard they had added VR support. Had an absolute blast playing it, have been wanting Wipeout in VR since I got my my PSVR and it does not disappoint. As with all racing games I have played in VR it makes the game so much easier to which is a huge bonus. I played a bit at first without VR while waiting for it to fully install and then promptly destroyed those times once playing on the PSVR. Such a great experience, can't remember the track's name but it has a vertical straight up and being able to look ahead as you approach it and spot the boost pads was great then coming down the other side wow. Being able to quick check your sides as someone is trying to make a pass is amazing, can't wait to play online tonight.

God damn, I'd love to try this some day. I remember being blown away by the first Wipeout on the ps1 demo disc and I imagine this would feel like playing Wipeout for the first time all over again.

Bought this game just for VR. But ended up selling my psvr shortly after realising that currently it's not worth it for me.

Just tried this quickly (Anulpha Pass, both a Venom race and a Zone, standard PS4) and HOLY SHIT. It looks pretty good on the standard PS4, the cockpit interior looks cool, and they've got this running in VR where it doesn't cause any motion sickness until high speeds / zone 40 and above. Even then, I was fine until crashing out at 56.

It feels like you have so much more awareness of where the craft is on the track.

I won't spend much time with it, but this is REALLY impressive.

Loving these impressions! I bought the game when it first came out, but I can't wait to get into the VR mode this weekend. Sounds amazing!

That feel when I already bought RE7, Wipeout OC, Battlefront and got Bound, Rush of Blood and RIGS from PS+. Might have to finally get PSVR one of these days since I got decent bunch of compatible games already.

The game is great in VR but I was disappointed that your/the pilot's hands never move in relation to what you are doing. They are completely static and that's immersion breaking, IMO.

That would require using the move controllers to mimic the motions of your hands which is doable but doesn't sound ideal for this type of game.

VR was made for purposes like this, 20 years ago we played it on the ps1, Now were experiencing the whole game just like RE7. You played as Chris 20 years ago, Now you're the one walking around the mansion. Wipeout does the same thing, Really put's you inside the futuristic racer and it's just insane.

RE7
Skyrim
Farpoint
Arizona
Moss
Wipeout

All genre's covered.

And the fact you can get the headset,Camera,Moves,Skyrim for £350 is such a bargain.

Honestly this is something I had to actively look at, which is totally distracting during a race, to even notice.

It's not a huge deal, but frankly I would prefer they not model a "body" and hands on the controls if they aren't going to move along with the action. It doesn't affect the gameplay, but immersion is a big factor in VR games.

That would require using the move controllers to mimic the motions of your hands which is doable but doesn't sound ideal for this type of game.

Nah, I'm not asking for anything fancy like that. Just that when I press "Left" on my stick, the in-game pilot would push the control stick left. Most games of this type do this (if the pilot's arms/legs are visible at all). I can't imagine using the move controllers for this, I figure most people will just use the Dualshock with this game anyway.

I remember that game made my roommate sick just watching me play it on a 27" tube TV. And here I am playing it in VR 20-or-so years later being blown away by it all over again.

Any zone past 50 in VR is going to be some sick ( in a good way ) experience.

Damn i want to experience it too.

What control layout do you guys use?

I find having weapons on square is just too hard to use while having to hold down X to accelerate, especially using cannons. I moved it to L1 and put "look behind" on square and it' s so much easier to use, but now I have to take my finger off of my right airbrake to fire weapons.

Welp! I have this game a PS4 Pro and the VR headset. Thing is, I unplugged the damn thing once I realized there's no HDR pass-thru when it's all connected. Being that I love HDR and play PSVR ~5% of the time... Disconnecting it all was an easy decision to make.

But I want to play this! Is there much of a performance loss when playing on the OG PS4? I don't have an HDR display connected to that one.

Only thing I would change is make the pilot in the cockpit react to your control inputs.

I already wanted to play Moss, Rez Infinite, RIGs and a bunch of other things that escape me right now, but this is seriously selling me on PSVR right now. I've always had a soft spot for WipEout and this sounds like the best implementation of virtual reality yet.

I think I'll bite this Black Friday.

Only thing I would change is add a window in the bottom of the ship so you can see where you're going after a huge jump. And maybe have a setting for "lock view to pilot EXCEPT barrel rolls", haha.

Nice little feature.

When you hold R2 at the ship choosing menu, you could watch the ships very close and turn them in every direction.

Yeah, there are definitely some blind jumps that could mess you up if you weren't familiar with the layout. It's clear the tracks were not designed for a cockpit view, but if you hit a blind jump the best plan is to go straight and don't make any adjustments in the air.

Speaking of jumps, is there a way to soften landings in this game? I seem to recall earlier versions of Wipeout (or might be confusing with F-zero) allowed you to pull back on the stick to "soften" landings after a jump.

THIS is the KILLER PSVR App.

Holy shit.. first game in forever that gave me that same feeling as when you first tried VR.

Also, damn it's easier in VR as well.

There is limited nose-pitch control which can affect speed a little and *very slightly* alter the effects of a landing. But it's not as pronounced of a tool as in the games you're thinking of. Barrel rolls are the primary airborne maneuver that they focus on in this game.
