Just finished the Ersatz Elevator. Man, I'm so happy this show exists.

This is the first time I've seen Ken Jenkins in anything since Scrubs went off the air and it's insane. I couldn't even recognize him until he yelled and then I went "BOB KELSO!?!?!"

My inner twelve year old was freaking out during those two episodes, that was always my favorite book but I thought it'd be kind of tough to adapt on screen. They nailed it though. Plus Tony Hale as Jerome was genius casting.

Klaus is really, really good this season. He really leans into his straight man role to comedic effect.

I had to pause part way through the first half but will be finishing it up soon. Something about Olaf saying the phrase "In my country young children do not interrupt married couple and forgein man turning tricks" made me laugh obnoxiously for a few minutes and then die a little inside... This is going to be a good season...

Quick question.

Was any mystery ever resolved in the books at the end and or prequel series? I'm left with so many questions...

To my limited knowledge, the show tends to be introducing tidbits that are not in the original trilogy but have popped up in the ancillary material. So I am led to believe that season three will be more emotionally satisfying than the book finale.

That's an evil cliffhanger to end the season on.

Really enjoyed it. Obviously doesn't feel as fresh as the first season but it maintained its momentum well and I was consistently cracking up. The production quality is also so impressive; even the bad CGI isn't that grating because it kinda suits the show's kitschy tone.

I laughed out loud at the How I Met Your Mother reference in Episode 9
"I was on TV for 9 years and look where that got me"

And great to see Lucy Punch getting high profile work like this. I've been a fan of hers since her Renford Rejects days back in the late 90s lmao.

Just watched the first, good to have this back and as everyone else has already pointed out Carmelita was literally perfect. Literally. And Sara Rue as a sexy librarian is a nice plus.

I THOUGHT IT WAS HIM.

IMDb hasn't been updated so I wasn't sure, but that crackling yell is so distinctive.

I actually thought it was Jim Broadbent at first because of how wide-eyed they always had him look and the shadows from his hat kind of obscured the rest of his facial details, but yep - Ken Jenkins. I thought he retired!

Lucy Punch is having so damn much fun shooting this show. Pretty much perfect casting for Esme.

Completely? No. You get enough bits and pieces that you can figure the rest out yourself, but there are some things that you're left completely in the dark about, with or without ballerinas digging a pit in the park.

Most of the mysteries were solved in the books. The prequels are picking up a few loose threads and there is more of them on the way.

This was really good. I watched the first season when it came out, and I did the same again with the second.

As far the
season cliffhanger is concerned, at least there was a warning about it

Could Count Olaf capture Sportacus?

Could Robbie Rotten capture the Baudelaires?

I'm in the middle of the Vile Village, but I'm really loving this show. It's the adaptation I've always wanted based on some of my favorite books as a kid.

Really glad to hear that they're going to go through all the books.

The casting has also been very spot on. Carmelita and Esmé stole almost every scene they were in, and Nathan Fillion is a great addition.

Also, Sunny just rocks. She really does.

Places
Neil Patrick Harris was born for this role. I can't think of anyone else that could pull this off. Maybe a younger Jim Carrey before he got depressed. Or David Tennant.

Derp, there was the movie with Carrey, most have subconsciously remembered.

Just finished season 2, and while still amazing, I'm left kinda disappointed. The Vile Village and Carnival episodes felt really lacking, the carnival especially when it came to style. Compared to every other arc, it looked really bland and was kinda boring, in comparison to the book which was one of my favorites in the entire season. That coupled with no finale musical was a big let down :/

I'm excited for season 3 as this is where my knowledge of the series pretty much ends, though

I loved "That's Not How The Story Goes" so much

edit: spoiler for books

Is that supposed to be Kit Snicket at the end there as the old Madam Lulu? Cause that pretty definitively disproves the Jacqueline/Kit theory

Completely forgot that the second season was coming out! I think I'll rewatch the first season before I start the second just to refresh my memory, and because I don't have anything else to watch right now.

They do a decent job catching you up to speed at the beginning of the first episde; but definitely at least watch the last episode of season 1 again before starting. The way it picks back up makes it ideal for having just come off finishing that episode.

Just watched the first season this week. I loved the books when they came out...

I'm glad they're reserving enough time for the last few books.

I'm sort of mildly curious/hopeful that in season 3
The End will be less ambiguous, and just say if they die or not in the end, it always annoyed me about the book that.

The musical numbers in this season were rather weak in comparison to last season.
Gunther's song in particular I thought was bad. The Welcome to the House of Freaks song was ok
but still came nowhere near That's Not How The Story Goes or It's The Count from S1. Oh well the season was still really great overall.

And yeah I think that was
Kit at the end, especially considering Lemony's "reliable sources tell me it's someone I know very well" line.

I'll be honest, the build up to Gunther's song had me totally convinced it was going to be It's The Count with just slight lyrical alterations. I didn't enjoy it nearly as much as the season one songs, but it still had a catchy sound to it and I unintentionally laughed rather loudly at each one of Olaf's dead pan "Ow"'s.

House of Freaks was a legit good, but still not as good as anything from season one or the title song... It's The Count and That's Not How the Story Goes are fucking perfect for what each one was going for...

The musical numbers were so bad in this season I legit forgot they existed and had to remember them when you mentioned them lol and yeah, more just a small disappointment than a full grievance and the season was spectacular

And thats even more exciting!
makes me super curious where they're gonna take Jacqueline's character

After this series finishes can we get the same team to do Percy Jackson, Eragon, or Artemis Fowl?

Those second two, definitely! Eregon absolutely deserves a second chance and I've been waiting for a good Artemis Fowl adaptation since middle school... Percy Jackson needs to just be forgotten. Though maybe having to sit through the movies with classes whose teachers decided that was the right thing to leave for them instead of a lesson when they're out has just poisoned my entire outlook on the series...

The series seems almost as devoted to shutting down explanations as the books were. "We've got this notebook/book/footage/person explaining literally every-whoops it's gone." I'm hoping they'll realize that the level of ambiguity in the books won't fly as well for a series, especially since there were accompanying books that offered more clues to help explain things. There's gotta be some level of payoff higher than "Then they all left the island, the end."
