Rex, subscription spending is tracked via our consumer panel. Title level revenues are not allocated in a subscription service. Game Pass is really no different than titles in PS+ or GwG in this way.

Thanks! So you do track subscription revenue and accounts then? I assume this includes PS+ and XBL Gold as well. It'd be nice to get more info on all of these digital subscription services but I'm guessing that these probably won't be a part of public disclosure.

It's good that the industry at large has access to the information though. I think it's impirtsnce as a source of revenue will only grow in the years to come.

What I wonder is, at this point in the PS4's life, how many more "system sellers" does it really have?

Yes, this is an assumption, but I would think that there's a big overlap between those who are excited for the new GoW and those who also would've bought a PS4 for Sony's other first party output like Uncharted 4, Bloodborne or Horizon.

I feel like the system will be selling based off of it's fantastic library as a whole at this point, and won't have or doesn't need big "system sellers" anymore.
You can bet that TLOU2 is a system seller. People got a PS3 just for that game.

Clear that X1 took March, Switch lost momentum and PS4 is up YoY.

  • Spider-Man (the worlds most popular comic book character)
  • Red Dead Redemption 2 (PlayStation has the marketing)
  • $199/€199/£199 ($199 has only happened once for a few days...)
And that's just in 2018.

PS4 is quite the amazing box from a sales curve perspective. And Sony has a lot of tools in the ol sales toolbox to influence those sales in the coming months and years.

I have a question that is somewhat irrelevant to the discussion taking place at the moment... it's about Horizon: Zero Dawn. We got a report that it sold 7.6 million globally about a month ago, and the only markets where we have concrete numbers for the game are the UK and Japan which account for a bit over 10% of the game's sales. UK numbers in particular indicate, in my opinion, that Horizon's sales skew closer to God of War (biggest market being US by a large margin) than Uncharted (Europe being its bigger market by a large margin). Of course, that's not to say that Uncharted didn't sell gangbusters in the US or that Horizon hasn't sold a lot in Europe, but I always found the fact that GOW couldn't sell as well in Europe as it did in the US intriguing. Could you provide any insight on the matter without divulging specific numbers, since I know you wouldn't be able to?

I'm pretty interested to see how GoW's split across US and EU will change. Will the US portion drop somewhat while the EU portion surges? Or will it be that both have a considerable uptick? I'm leaning toward the latter.

Horizon sold really well in the US. It's already pretty much sold what God of War 3 did on PS3. The difference this time being that Horizon has much larger sales in Europe and Asia than God of War ever did.

I'm guessing tracking for it right now is looking pretty good. This is before the reviews and that last surge in marketing right before it hits.

Edit - Ah, posted above.

Do we have any hint so far about March other than Kirby going really well?
FC5 gonna be the other big talking point for March. Outside of that, I'm not sure. Oh, MLB will do good as usual too.

Benji Can you enlighten us on the stock situation of some Switch games ?

Zelda and Mario Odyssey went out of stock multiple times this month on Amazon.com (Zelda is still OoS) and after a great month, Kirby is facing these issues too.

I wanted to know whether it was a widespread issue or not.

God of War real test is Europe, Playstation juggernaut nation never really cared about it like US did.

Game will be massive anyway.

I kept seeing random Youtubers in my stream making it sound as though WWII was doing terribly. Looks like it's doing very well.

I am really curious now to see how well God Of War does.
Just anecdotally speaking, previous God of War's never really had much buzz amongst the gaming communities I interacted with. Most of which where UK based. This time around it feels more like an Uncharted release in terms of scale.

I myself have never played a God of War, but after the previews, this has gone to the top of my 'Most Wanted' list. Well, at least until we hear more about Spider-Man and RDR2.

Sorry, that did come out unfiltered. I meant to ask if the US made for a bigger-than-usual percentage of Horizon's WW sales compared to other Sony first-party titles.

Horizon sold really well in the US. It's already pretty much sold what God of War 3 did on PS3. The difference this time being that Horizon has much larger sales in Europe and Asia than God of War ever did.

We know that GOW3 sold 2.8+ million in the America region as of 30 May 2012, so this is really impressive!

Glad to hear GOW is gearing up for a massive debut! For me personally, the first three mainline games were good but not mindblowing, and the new direction seems very exciting, so hopefully they get rewarded for it.

It'll be interesting to see if this style of game has a bigger attraction on the European market than the old GOW games did. I think the TLOU style that this game possesses could make it a bigger success relatively than older games have been, but we'll have to see.

GoW should do very well, particularly month 1. But being SP only, linear and self contained, I'm more curious to see how the tail looks.

Spider-Man was, at one point, one of the biggest franchises in gaming (Spider-Man 1 and Spider-Man 2 back in the PS2 era). Don't know if the new one can return to that, but the potential is there. Perhaps it's like COD:WWII, people may be drawn in by the nostalgia and make sales pop. I don't think it could hit the sales of something like Arkham City being an exclusive and all, but maybe.

Uncharted has also done quite well, but I think some may think it a bigger seller than it actually is. Shrug.

Sorry, that did come out unfiltered. I meant to ask if the US made for a bigger-than-usual percentage of Horizon's WW sales compared to other Sony first-party titles.

I don't know. I don't have ROW data, just Americas.
