The hate for CDs is overblown as fuck

They're disappointing relative to what they could have been, and I think it's silly that it's a big part of the lore but yet we have to pay for psplus to access it from the hub. That said, I've put in an ungodly amount of time in them and done every chalice imaginable... I've seen things.

i think they were a bold concept and understand why it didn't end up as good as it should. I just hope the negativity towards it ends up resulting in a "ok, we are gonna try it again and make it better" and not in FROM completely dropping the concept. It is a much better post end game content than NG+. And I like it's connection to the lore.

Also, if you summon an NPC or fellow hunter it actually makes the battles harder.

I would definitely level up a bit more, what weapon are you rocking?

Oh interesting did not realize that. I'm using the Slaw Cleaver with +3 upgrade with the Blunderbuss. Have the Gascoingne armor since that seems to have the best poison resistance from what I have. Guess I'll try leveling up some more and taking another crack at it, since that helped a ton on the Cleric Beast.

Edit: Got up to Lv 32 now. Killing the werewolves outside the boss area really gives a lot of echoes. Gonna try the fight again later today to see if this helped.

This game is fucking amazing.

I've never played anything like it before in my life, not one Souls game, barely any RPGs. I would've laughed in your face before if you'd told me Bloodborne would become one of my favourite games of all time, but I haven't even finished it and I'm already shilling it hard. I'm not even usually the kind of person who gets a kick out of harder difficulties or overcoming challenges. I was going through three other games before I started this, now they've all been on hold for the past few weeks because I don't want to play anything else. Not only is this thing seriously captivating, but it's maybe the most satisfying game I've ever played. I'm already a changed man tbh.

I'm in Cainhurst at the moment, after trying ten thousand times to get through all those spider ladies (their loot was so not worth it, but didn't want to just run past). These bat enemies that blend in with the statues are so great.

Very salty that I accidentally screwed myself out of getting all three umbilical cords, though. I only needed one more.

Did you kill Iosefka and not send Arianna to the chapel?

Glad you're having a great time, Spinky! Don't worry too much about the cords thing, if you are gonna do NG+ (or a new character) anyway, you know what to do for next time. I missed the cords my first playthrough as well:
sent Arianna to Iosefka, not knowing she was a fraud, and I killed fake-Iosefka when I came across her since it was pre-Rom

Here's the video for the first DLC boss fight I did with my BL4 character.

You can see right where I start losing my cool as I get closer to the end haha.

Nicely done.

Of all the bosses in lvl 4 that I've beaten this one was probably the hardest, or at least the one where I spent more time.

I couldn't finish all of them though since I reached a point when I felt completely drained (I think it was after beating the headless bloodletting beast in the last pthumerian chalice).

Still missing:

Laurcence from DLC

Last bosses from chalices:
Loran Darkbeast (fuck the camera in this boss)
Ebrietas
Yharnam Queen

Maybe one day I'll get back to it.

So, Rom.

That was kind of a joke. I mean, I almost died a few times, but I honestly don't know how/why. This is either one of those fights that's super easy, or super hard and I just got super lucky. If there were any mechanics in this fight, they totally sailed over my head.

Byrgenwerth as a whole was kind of disappointing. That whole area just exists to house Rom. With how much it was being talked up in the game leading up to this, I figured it would be much more rewarding lore-wise.

I guess at least now the Blood Moon is out and shit's starting to go down. Fucked around in Yahar'gul a little and enemies come back to life??? I put my controller down to check my phone after killing the first two enemies in the zone only to hear them come back to life and maul me. Managed to get away luckily, but this changes things. A lot...

Agreed about Byrgenwerth. Don't get me wrong - I still had fun in the area, enjoyed the atmosphere, the
hunter fight on the stairs
is good. But it definitely feels half-baked. I know pre-DLC, most people were thinking that area was going to be the most expanded; kind of upset that wasn't the case. There's really not that much lore to extract, either.

Wow, what the hell is this guy's deal??

That had to be the toughest fucking fight so far. This guy has so much health and damage, it's ridiculous. Got him my second try, but for a while I didn't think I'd make it. Whew!

That was an awesome fight - you were so lucky the parry and visceral near the end didn't kill you! He's generally considered one of the hardest fights in the base game - especially as they patched out the easiest way to cheese him (he used to not notice the Chikage was damaging him, and so would let himself die from it!) There are still ways to cheese him but well done for taking him on in a fair fight. Always bugs me though that the hunter enemies have infinite ammo and items though...

Yeah seriously, he kept healing himself and I was like when is he going to stop doing that?? The first time I fought him he parried me to death, so I made sure that I was always topped off around him. Still, I got hella lucky at the end there. That 10% HP rune coming in handy!

Also, when you say hardest in the base game, does that mean there are harder fights in The Old Hunters? Because hot damn, this fight is right on the borderline of what I consider a fair challenge... :)

A couple of the boss fights are considered pretty hard, and then there's the

shark giants down a well. They are hard as nails.

Finally beat Blood Starved Beast with the help of my pal Alfred. Stocked up some antidotes and leveled up vitality and stamina and the fight was way more manageable.

Clearing bosses feels so satisfying in this game. I wind up recording a video each time I defeat one just to commemorate it, and it's surprisingly fun to rewatch them just to relive the moment.

But it definitely feels half-baked. I know pre-DLC, most people were thinking that area was going to be the most expanded; kind of upset that wasn't the case. There's really not that much lore to extract, either.

to be fair,
parts of byrgenwerth have been transported to the nightmare, specifically the lecture building.

Yeah seriously, he kept healing himself and I was like when is he going to stop doing that??

the bloody crow of cainhurst only heals once, but yeah, i'm not a fan of his infinite bullets that can kill the average player in one to two shots.

it's still very much possible to cheese him with poison knives. how i beat him with my bl4 character lol.

oh yeah i'm up to the third boss fight in thw dlc. second one was still easy. this third one doesn't feel like it'll take me forever again. feels easier to get it to the second phase.

Alright can anybody help me figure out where to go (and what I was doing?).

I have three stones I can interact with at the hub:

1st Stone:
  • 1st Floor Sickroom
  • Central Yharnam
  • Great Bridge
  • Tomb of Oedon
  • Cathedral Ward
  • Grand Cathedral
  • Old Yharnam
  • Church of the Good Chalice
  • Graveyard of the Darkbeast

2nd Stone:
  • Hemwick Charnel Lane
  • Witch's Abode
  • Forbidden Woods
  • Forbidden Grave
  • Byrgenwerth
  • Moonside Lake

3rd Stone:
  • Yahar'gul, Unseen Village
  • Yahar'gul Chapel
  • Advent Plaza
  • Hypogean Gaol
  • Abandoned Old Workshop

Now I don't have the last stone unlocked. How do you I tell if I killed Margo's Wet Nurse?

Now for stats:

  • Level: 63
  • Blood Echoes: 287
  • Insight: 3

  • Vitality: 29
  • Endurance: 11
  • Strength: 32
  • Skill: 28
  • Bloodtinge: 6
  • Arcane: 7
I was using the axe you start with, usually go to it or Ludwigs blade. How am I? What do I want to work on?

For where you should go, you need to go to Advent Plaza where you defeated a boss. If you walk past that boss area, you'll see a NPC you can interact with and this will take you to a new building and the endgame areas. You're close to Mergo's Wet Nurse, but you've missed a couple of bosses on the way. As for stats, it looks like you've got a quality build - Holy Blade is good for that I think. I would work on your endurance - 11 is pretty low!

Have you got any Coldblood Dews to pop?

Can you mention and spoiler tag? I honestly don't mind it in a soulsborne game. The last boss I fought was some
two story boss with bubbles
.

Amgdalya - you get to him by checking you have a tonsil Stone in your inventory, then going to the Church down a hill from the Cathedral where you fought Amelia - you get to a whole new area!

You might have fought - not sure - the pair of bosses in Upper Cathedral Ward. You're description sounds like Ebreitas.

Friends and fam just come round for Easter lunch, so if you need I can write in detail later!

Yea I fought neither of those I believe. When I actually get back to playing (finishing other games) I will really check. btw I think it was
The One Reborn
.

Actually I think I have killed these:

  • [*]Cleric Beast
    [*]Father Gascoigne
    [*]Vicar Amelia
    [*]Blood-Starved Beast
    [*]The Witch of Hemwick
    [*]Darkbeast Paarl
    [*]Shadow Of Yharnam
    [*]Rom the Vacuous Spider
    [*]The One Reborn
Also I should get 20 END is enough right?

20 is - you've also missed Cainhurst Castle - look it up if you want; it's a great area!

Ebreitas and the Celestial Emessary boss are in the Upper Cathedral Ward - go into Oedon Chapel and have a look around!

Seriously. Byrgenwerth had me so excited, I expected a large college building (or multiple buildings) with sprawling grounds and tons of lore. I was so thrilled to have arrived there initially, and then so incredibly disappointed that it was basically the size of a rich persons lake house. And then to top it off, Rom was one of two walls I hit in the game (the other being chalice Rom lol).

I was hoping Brygenworth was going to be basically the Lecture Building but ten times larger and with some outer environments. It had the potential to be the most interesting location.

They really should have cut the slog that was the Forbidden Woods in half and then go all out with Brygenworth. Explore and old, abandoned college campus with a dark secret behind it. Spooky and shit.

Not sure wtf just happened but I was in the forbidden woods. Making tons of progress when the game just booted me back to the main menu automatically. I think it may have just said I disconnected but it was so fast that I have no idea.

Man the more I play this game, the more I think to myself... I can't wait for the 4K 60 fps remaster on PS5. The game is dope and the art style is fun but it's technically just so bad. I can't stand how blurry and jagged the whole image looks, especially after playing Dark Souls 3 maxed out on my PC.

You can just keep it offline, in the 150+ hours I've spent with the game a majority was offline, only went online the first couple hours and recently to try the cut content, apart from that I much preferred the offline experience.

Wow, way to go Bloodborne! It basically autosaved right where I was anyways. I was terrified of doing the forbidden woods again (Honestly, you cant convince me that design is good - I love BB but they really need to separate some colour palettes so its not grey on grey or green on green).

I summoned two people for the
Shadow of Yharnum
fight lol - Loved it. What a gank.

i don't think i've ever felt this happy and relieved in forever

i finally beat the third boss of the dlc with my bl4 character after spending all of yesterday trying to beat it and was close to resigning to the idea that i just wasn't gonna be able to do it. that my brain just wasn't fast enough to react in time and that i just couldn't keep my cool long enough to not panic.

but yes, i did. oh god. i need to lie down.

The Forbidden Woods is fine, it's actually one of my favourite areas. It's pretty straightforward to navigate once explored, and the elevators help with getting about.

Yeah, I also really dig the Forbidden Woods. Already said my piece about it in an earlier post. Like it more than any of the other forest areas in the Souls games.

Anyway, here's the video of me bumbling my way to victory against the third DLC boss with my BL4 character:

What I like about Forbidden Woods is the fact that, out of all the areas, it's still the one that makes me feel unsure of exactly where I am and where all the loot is - that's pretty impressive!

Well done Young Liar - really impressive!

You need to port back to the Advent Plaza and go straight up the stairs (opposite the way you entered) and press X on the skeleton in the chair. For Upper Cathedral Ward you need a key in the Unseen Village and for Nightmare Frontier you need the Tonsil stone. Those two areas are optional. You'll know if you killed Mergo's Wet Nurse because the Hunter's Dream will be on fire it is quite apparent.

I'll put some instructions on how to get to the optional areas.

Upper Cathedral Ward: The key is on a body in the first half of the Unseen Village before you get to the Hypogeon Gaol. Port to the Yaragul Chapel lamp, run up the stairs behind you where the amygdala shoots a laser. Along the fence to your left there will be a hole and an area to drop down. Drop down, enter the building, kill the Bell Maiden, drop into the cage and grab the key from the body. The entrance to the Upper Cathedral Ward is at the top of the Healing Church Workshop you already cleared. Instead of going down to where the Abandoned Workshop is, go up the stairs to the locked door. For reference you port to Odeon Chapel and go right up the elevator to get to the Healing Church Workshop.

Nightmare Frontier: Talk to any of places with people in them after killing Vicar Amelia and entering the Forbidden Woods. You'll get a Tonsil Stone. Since you killed Rom the only NPC that will get you this is in the Forbidden Woods, after you enter the village but before you reach cannon part there's a house by the dog cages but before the gate that some dude closes. After getting the stone get grabbed by the Amygdala you encountered outside the Unseen Village, right after killing Rom.

Ebrietas was a dope fight. The music was fantastic and she was challaneging but fair. Rom in chalice was a wall for me. Beat him on the second try in the lake.
