You're better off without Oreo. Nothing to write home about. And if you're unlucky the install could fuck up your battery life or slow down your shit.

Liking my new S9+, but I'm still getting used to the screen hight and heaviness compared to my Moto Z Play.

Bxactions is nice to make that Bixby button useful, but it has a bit if a lag. Haven't tried connecting it to my computer yet to get the double and triple press actions working, so maybe that'll help.

Screen is gorgeous, feels super smooth (even on the 70% limited CPU battery saver mode at full resolution), I'm happy to have Samsung pay again (but if I use Google pay 1 more time I get $10 play credit, haha), having wifi calling again is nice too, and I'm still playing with the features I haven't used before (making gifs, the super slowmo, etc).
Force touch home button with the nav bar hidden might be my favorite new thing. I know it has gestures for back and recent apps, but I'd love for it just to be touch sensitive on the bottom right and left.

My firstphone with a back finger print sensor too and I'm still not 100% used to that. I use the face/iris sensor more even though it's a tiny bit slower, but I'm sure I'll get used to it eventually.

Also nice to be using a Spigen case again (Neo Hybrid). Love them and they just feel right to me, was a shame when I found out the Moto Z Play wasn't supported by Spigen.

Everything is fixed once you enable the the adb options. I believe you have to pay to unlock the double and triple press actions... So worth it.

I set holding volume buttons to skip tracks, press bixby button to set change sound, and double tapping bixby set it to "do not disturb". Because of this button/app, my phone is now enhanced.

I seriously have like no complaints yet other than both speakers not being used for calls and Samsung's processing on selfie photos. Everything else has been a clear upgrade and I've gotten use to the size. It would be hard for me to go back to anything under than 6 inches.

Embedded Twitter stuff on Resetera doesn't seem to be loading on Samsung Browser with my S9.

Worked fine on that browser on my Moto, so is there a setting I need to set to get then to appear?

Got a new Pixel 2 XL on deck. Blue screen issue fixed for the most part. Goodbye Samsung bloat. Will miss that screen though.

ERA, help me.

Contract is up in one week, have the S8 right now. It's okay, but it's way too big for my tastes. What phone shall I get? I was thinking the A5, but the A8 is coming to the UK this month I believe, and that's the new version, is that right? I've googled it, and it looks like it's a lot bigger, but the screen is only a bit bigger, and the bezels are smaller, so I don't know if I trust the random photos I've seen are correct.

I'd like to be able to use my S8's charging pad, I'd like a headphone jack, I'd like water resistance, but nothing is a deal breaker except I want something small.

EDIT: No fucking notches.

Been really back and forth between the S9 and Pixel 2. Just give Google software on Samsung hardware.

Base Pixel 2
Cheaper
Apparently lasts longer during the day
More consistent updates

S9
Headphone jack
Bigger and better screen
Headphone jack
Expandable storage
Head phone jack

I definitely CBA with base pixel 2. Looked too much like my Nexus 5x with the huge bezels. If it has to be base pixel 2, then go with the s9.

Samsung software is better tho, the split screen and pip implementation is night and day

Samsung updates their phones. They're pretty slow but they update it quite a lot.

And for some Pixel 2 exclusive stuff like the Camera, chances are they'll port it to the S9 anyway so it's not much of a deal breaker (albiet slower to process than the Pixel but still works quite well)

Hey guys, dunno if this is the right thread to be posting this but I figure it's worth a shot. I have a Samsung J7 Perx just sitting around doing nothing and i'd like to give it to my mom who's current phone is breaking down. Problem is the phone is locked to Boost and she is on ATT. Any place I take it to say it's going to $70+ and would take about two weeks to unlock. I've been researching how to do it myself if possible, I've come across a few websites that claim to unlock for about $20 but I wouldn't trust them without a recommendation, they seem a bit shady. Anyone help me on what I should do?
check the unlockers on XDA

God damn, I forgot how much glass screen protectors suck for the S8+. I regret taking off the plastic film protector it had.

Edit: forgot that the film screen protector was matte, so I was wondering why I could see myself now. Fuck.

Wife's contract on her iPhone 6s runs out next month, and she's ready to finally make the move over to Android.

She wants a new phone as soon as she's allowed to upgrade, and likes her friend's Note 8, but isn't sure she'll use the stylus much. Performance/battery wise, is she better off with a Note 8 (even if she doesn't use the stylus much/at all) or an S9+? Let's pretend cost doesn't matter.

Been taking a bunch of live focus shots on this Easter Sunday. They look excellent. I want to compare this to the portrait mode on the Google camera port once that's available

the GS9 has 1 sensor too...

Yup... but It's a little bit confusing because in their last versus linked in the article it was S9+ vs Pixel 2.
Anyway, the S9s are up there with the P20 pro and the king Pixel 2

Multiple Galaxy S9 reviewers have noted that its images tend to look washed out. My experience agrees with that critique, with this image ably demonstrating the slightly desaturated, slightly too bright appearance of the S9's photos. Looking at the same pictures on the S9's hypersaturated screen, they look just about perfect. So this might be a case of Samsung toning down the saturation of its camera to offset the excess saturation of its screen. Granted, the phone's display is the most likely screen on which the S9 photos would be experienced, but that doesn't make for the best possible photos.

lol

I had a dream last night that LG innovated again, and put a gesture sensitve touch strip on the back of their phones, flanking the back power button. No volume buttons(just tap the left/right areas for volume up/down), swipe for back forward music tracks, or even use it as game buttons to clear up the touch screen. Or something. It was bizzare I tell you.

The Notch Wars have begun.

Im a goddamn hypocrite now that I can see the design philosophy better on a laptop screen rather than a phone, fuck the mobile notch.

--

So theres no intro stuff so Ill keep it brief:

- Just copped a Pixel 32 Blue. Impression is honeymoon. TouchSensor is snappy, That slight bubble screen is magnificent. Clean as a whistle Android, boot rom has nothing there. Good stuff. Battery life is being monitored, notice its going kinda fast, estimated for about 9-10 hrs on full, but after moderate use going to 7-8. Camera is excellent, Sun makes this thing amazing.

- Nvidia Shield Tablet is like one of the last few decent options for an Android Tablet. Its actually great at what it claims, gaming.

- The Nvidia Shield TV is a badass device

- I love chinese android boxes

Yeah, notch on a laptop is actually better. Widescreen movies and shows always letterbox so I have no issues, and if you place the taskbar on the top of the screen than the bottom, everything should work out fine.

I always put my taskbar to the left, and if I was to put it on top it would still not work since I use it as a make-do dock for all the most common apps. That abomination has no place in the PC world, just make it stop.

Here's the thing. Samsung has actually already designed a better idea before the botch even came out on mobile.

That being said in Windows land the XPS is king, but it still has it's own issues. Bottom bezel is chunky, and the cam is worthless down there. It essentially means the lerson your say skyping with is looking up your nose.

This actually might be better than the current XPS design.

Yeah, gotta say I think I'm okay with that laptop notch. It makes the screen look stunning, but I think it might fuck with all my tabs in Firefox, and that would probably get old really fast.

No phone notches though. I'm glad I bought a phone when I did, hopefully this trend will be over by the time I upgrade.

Anyone get the Wear24 Android Wear/WearOS watch? Thinking of "replacing" my Hwuawei watch with it since it's all on clearance (I know I won't get updates with it)
