Good for ubisoft but i still don't think it will be able to surpass mh:w

It's going to substantially outperform Monster Hunter World in the West.

Japan obviously though will skew hugely in favor of Monster Hunter. Will be interesting to see how they shake out overall.

Also just a 52% drop for Sea of Thieves is an outstanding result.

Indeed. It's almost unbelievable!
Along with PUBG doubling its physical (LOL!!!) sales compared to last week and Forza 7 breaking into the top 10 again the champagne corks must be popping at MS.

We looking at Ubisoft's biggest launch since AC3 possibly?

Looks like launch week is bigger than Assassins Creed 3, smaller than The Division.

Possibly on track to be the second biggest launch for any Ubisoft game ever.

Assassins Creed 3 sold 3.5 million units WW launch week. I fully expect Far Cry 5 to be ahead of that

There should be a shrine for Yves Guillemot. Such a great CEO to have in the gaming industry.

Guessing Detective Pikachu is having a positive word of mouth?

It's launch wasn't huge to begin with, but still, its a nice little title.

I'd also hazard a guess that it wasn't really advertised all that much/well in the first place and it just sorta crept up and people were caught out, at least even I was surprised when I got my dispatched email about my preorder of it. Not sure how common this circumstance is but yeah I'd mostly agree that there were people sitting on the fence who have been satisfied by the game's reception from day 1ers. It is as you said a good game indeed.

"It also happens to be the most successful game to ever launch during 'week 13', beating the previous record holder - BioShock Infinite."

Which I find kinda interesting considering they share a writer.

Damn, it seems like this gen breaking records for all sorts of franchises isn't it in the UK?
Far Cry best debut
Uncharted best debut
3D Mario best debut
Zelda best debut
Pokémon best debut
With new IPS such as The Division, For Honor, Wildlands, Horizon Zero Dawn, Bloodbourne, Splatoon, and ARMS killing it.
Sheesh
God of War will probably have its best debut worldwide too.
Sony, Ubisoft, and Nintendo making bank lol

Honestly the industry is arguably more healthy than it's ever been WW

Is it though. Don't usual AAA releases have much larger openings thus higher percentage drops. This game opened up to lower end sales. I guess you can say the percentage drop is better than normal but first week wasn't typical for a big release.
Percentages are relative and the usual drop for AAA is in the ~70-80% range. A ~50% drop is pretty good for Sea of Thieves in relation to how the rest of the market performs, in addition to the other methods consumers have to play the game.

I mean its Insane how crazy the industry is right now. A Kirby game that had mixed critical reception and didn't do much too drastic is outselling it's counterparts on far bigger userbases.

Like I said God of War will break franchise records next. Hell, I could see Crackdown 3 break franchise records, this generation is over performing for the best lol.

No estimates for WW yet. We know Steam is well over 500k, and with Uplay PC total might be at or close to 1 million.

We know Far Cry 5 physical is higher than Bioshock Infinite so over 130k physical in the UK.

Ubisoft are probably wanting a full week of sales before putting out PR. I would suspect we will hear the shipment number for Week 1 sometime between Monday - Wednesday next week. The game is smashing so Ubi is going to want to put some PR out there for it.

It's a monster, this is gonna sell above 10M units.

Edit: I deleted because of inaccurate data.

I will try to find out the biggest Ubisoft launches on an individual format in the UK.

The thing that makes this even more impressive is the rise of digital, it still being above every previous Far Cry.

Far Cry 3 surpassed 10 million sales a little less than 2 years after launch. Will be fun to see how quickly Far Cry 5 will pass that number.

It's not surprising, imo.

I've always believed that with some very rare exceptions, franchises that are still growing in popularity and reach at a >10% scale will grow retail sales ALONGSIDE digital.

It's why I never really shared the view of sequels that under-performed by 20-30% in retail sales as some sort of pat-in-the-back just because digital sales presumably made up for the drop. Growth will happen in both sides of the spectrum if the game is truly able to grow its audience from the previous title to its sequel.

Good question. Both are huge sellers. If we look at the most recent entries in both franchises though it looks like it's going to be Far Cry 5 > Assassin's Creed Origins

In terms of UK data not sure where it will rank but overall WW FC5 should he the 2nd largest Ubisoft launch.

1st is The Division and the 2nd fastest as far as I know was AC3 at 3.5 million week 1, and 7 million by December 12th (about a month and a half of sales)

Edit - Actually it looks like Watch Dogs beat out AC3 for 2nd fastest selling Ubisoft game at 4 million units week 1.

Assassin's Creed III (Xbox 360) - 196,000
Watch Dogs (PlayStation 4) - 190,000
The Division (PlayStation 4) - 149,000
Assassin's Creed III (PlayStation 3) - 136,000
The Division (Xbox One) - 124,000
Far Cry 5 (PlayStation 4)
Assassin's Creed Revelations (Xbox 360) - 120,000
Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood (Xbox 360) - 114,000

Far Cry 5 (All Formats) ~ 200,000-210,000 units

I don't think I am missing another Ubisoft title that may have sold more than the top 5 I posted.

Far Cry 5 at 200k+ is the estimate? I thought we only knew more than Bioshock Infinites 130k

Because if its over 200k, with digital stronger now than ever thats an insane launch especially for this time of the year

The PS4 version is the 6th biggest launch of a Ubisoft game on the individual chart and accounts for 60% of total sales. Since it slots between AC Revelations (360) and The Division (XB1), Far Cry 5 sold at least 200K in total.

Interesting.

So FC5 is doing big in the UK but the monster overperformance like we are seeing on Steam (where its selling faster than any Ubisoft game ever besides The Division)

Any Brit members here? I'm wondering if the rural America setting is something that Brits would have found particularly appealing, moreso than prior the tropical and Tibetan settings.

Wildlands gets so ignored on this forum. As far as co-op games go, it was amazing. The open ended structure of the missions made it so much fun to play with friends.

Do you recommend that game at all for someone only interested in single player? I'm not a fan of grinding or repetitive quests.

SoT is an online only game which will skew towards digital sales + it's on Game Pass + it's had mixed reviews. In that context it's doing surprisingly well.

i hated far cry 3 4 and primal. i am loving 5. fuck yeah ubi.

Just curious: what makes you hate 3, 4, and Primal yet love 5? Honestly, I love them all. They're all somewhat similar in many ways too. I'm still relatively early in 5, so my rankings are subject to change. But right now:

Far Cry 3: 9.0/10
Far Cry 5: 8.8/10
Far Cry 4: 8.5/10
Far Cry Primal: 8.2/10
