I bet we see those Heaven's Arena fools again and all three of them are OP as fuck and get revenge on Gon and Killua.

Ironic that of the main four, the one with the least fucked upbringing is arguably the most crazy/fucked. Hi Gon, you nutcase.

I had always made the connection between Kurapika/Uvo and Gon/Pitou, but just realized that both had a similar shot:

I'd rather we never see Gon and Killua again that have them resemble anything about Naruto and Sasuke's dynamic or the latter's character arc.

How's the movie Phantom Rogue? Worth watching?

It's okay. I'd recommend it to anyone wanting more Hunter Hunter content.

Doesn't spoil plot or anything like that, just more the design and what to expect
That said, the movie is a noticeable step down from the manga. But it's a funflick, don't try to think too much of it because some characters are hilariously out of character. The movie also shows HXH more as a traditional Shounen compared to what we're used to in the Manga, can feel a bit cheesy and/or cliche.

Again, I'd recommend it because it's not terrible but just watch it as its own thing. The second movie: Last Mission however should be avoided like the plague.

I kind of want to check those movies out despite them probably being disappointing time sinks,

Maybe I can play one of these for the ocassional B-film night I do with my friend. He has no clue what HxH is about, except that it has "some kinda Yugioh shit" so I wonder if the movie repeats concepts enough for him to understand any lick of it.

Goddamn, I love this series.

The only areas I don't think it's the best at in Shounen is world building and art.

Yeah, I wish we had seen more of the Hunter Association earlier.

The Hunter ranks weren't even introduced until the election arc, right? lol

One of the downsides to all the hiatuses. But as many have thought, would we have got what we got without them?

Not all countries/regions have been named yet have they?

I remember the Yorknew arc talking about all these mafia families from all over the world, colouring all these sections of continents they came from and it kinda bugged me they didn't state the actual names where they were actually from.

Yeah worldbuilding is definitely a weak point in the series.

The hunter stars? We had them since GI, Tsezguerra was introduced as a single star hunter. But yes they only got explained in the Election Arc.

That's some catch, that catch-22

We've known Ging was a double hunter since chapter 1

Ah, must have forgotten that. It was in the anime, too?
Did we? I think that only happen later. Im curious now, i haven't read chapter 1 in almost a decade.
Just checked the chapter, and we see his license, but I imagine no one could have guessed what that meant.

It's not so much that hxh's world building is weak, but it just can't live up to its own strengths or the best wold building in Shounen [Toriko/One Piece]

However, I'd say that's more because for the longest time Hunter Hunter wasn't going for this huge ambitious world with all expanded lore. Sure, we got hints that there could be more out there such as undiscovered mega creatures like Chimera Ants washing up on shore, the ancient written text that nobody really knows the origin of, the humongous mythical beasts that are kinda just there... but regardless the story was clearly more grounded until this most recent arc.

So I'd say it's more of a writing choice. That said, the world building like One Piece's is more impressive to me even if Togashi could of done to a comparable scale earlier but didn't due to preference, therefore I give OP the win over it in world building.

I don't remember but i think the anime did too.

Yeah i checked and it was Satotz at the end of the hunter exam after Gon shows him and ask him about the card he tells him the license its from a double star hunter.

EDIT: After reading Chapter 1 im still salty that the anime cut the opening part with Kite and the fox bear.

I'm probably the only one that felt bad for Pitou getting her head punched in repeatedly.

I felt bad for everyone in that scene.

Obviously Gon has lost himself to rage and despair and in that exact moment he knew he fucked up and went too far, that he's probably going to die. It's all very heavy and you can't help but feel bad. Because at the end of the day he's still a child, it feels very organic.

Pitou should die, but not like that. Her second to none loyalty should be respected though.

Gon was for the light for Killua for the majority of the series and the latter feels so weak throughout the second half of the arc because he's failing to be what Gon was for him. He feels helpless and useless, he can't do anything as Gon destroys himself. The final "Gon" scream is arguably the most powerful one-word sentence in the 2011 anime.

There is that and Welfin death whispering "Komugi" or is it just me that felt that Welfin said that with all of his remaining life energy? Killua wasn't able to be the "Gon" for Gon because Killua is too shades of grey and realistic and Gon's...well he's Gon. He had such a deranged and at times selfish world view that it couldn't simply be expanded. I honestly think that if Pitou spoke to post Rose Meruem and witnessed his total world view change that she'd respect it and could actually be reformed, but nope she got her head broken open. She was loyal to Meruem and was never trying to go around his back and screw him over so I think she'd respect his wish to never harm humans again.
