Then I guess I better just go with hidive. Speaking of g Gundam I still haven't seen any release date for the remaster so I'll keep waiting.
Hidive says that the 1080 setting is at 6583kbps

which looks like

for me.
also they have video speed controls, which is interesting. I don't think funi or crunchy do.
and allow you to create multiple profiles and stream up to two streams at once which allows you to share with a friend like netflix.

I do wish they had a roku app though as it would make things easier in my bedroom lol.

but yeah I haven't a clue if their blu ray release will look much better or how it compares to the japanese release.

I don't remember lodoss being all that good plot-wise but it must hold a special place in the heart of the Anime community considering how often I see it mentioned.

I thought she was going to be a hidden otaku when she told him good luck becoming a wizard. But that wasn't the hook. I wouldn't expect someone that's not an otaku to know about that, though. I thought it was an otaku meme, but is that wrong?

Aside from that, I like this.

I don't think the first episode did that encounter any favors for anyone not already in the know as I'm pretty sure the three fleets weren't supposed to be all lined up like that as its shown in the UI, there's hours between encounters as Reinhard vacates battle space as rapidly as he can before reengaging, and, if this is mirroring the book as closely as it appears to be, it's not covered just how limited detection/communication is which results in misleading UI elements that look realtime but are effectively estimated intelligence reports so once his fleet isn't where it's supposed to be, the other fleets have no clue where he went. I really don't want to argue if this is dumb or not since it kinda is but I can certainly see where you're coming from due what was presented.
This, on the other hand, actually makes sense.
Thanks for your clarification. The presentation made it look like it was really easy for everyone to tell where all the conflicting forces were located.

It's probably worth mentioning that this is the third time this exact battle has been animated.

In the original OVA series, it was two full length episodes.
It was also covered as a movie, 'Overture to a New War'.

This TV series version basically shrinks it down to a single episode and as a result of the compression, some important information is lost. I feel like the team making this new series wanted to try and depict the battle in a slightly different way but, the end result is just a worse re-telling of the exact same story beats.

Wasn't SAO Alternative supposed to start today?
I swear I have looked it up multiple times over the last few weeks and it said April 4th, now it says the 8th.

Great stuff about Shimada and his relationship with Kiriyama. It is also in a way a new beginning for Kiriyama.

Also I want to make a thread in OT about Uma Musume.

I have a feeling that with only 12 episodes we are bound to get something as confusing as the Zeta movies where lots of stuff makes no sense if it's your first contact with the story being told but all makes sense as long as you have already seen the longer, older version.
Which, if I'm being honest, is slightly self-defeating because it makes it hard for people new to the franchise like me to appreciate it.

If you haven't, watch the '07 TV series. It's far from perfect, and nothing will compare to the comic (it's not even that much like the comic), but its significantly better than whatever Besson vomited onto screen.

Why do they say 'fuer' instead of 'fire'? Anyway, this was pretty dull. The lasers were pretty though.

The OP makes me think this will become a part of the plot eventually. Though I could be wrong.

As a person that hasn't watched the original, I thought it was rather clear. Like I mentioned the key points were the time he had to reach the next fleet and the communication jamming. Sure it looks like the fleets were lined up but he clearly tells the other guy to not clear out the rest of the first fleet and get ready for the next fight and that it'll take like 4 hours to reach

Boruto - 52

This is so god damn boring. Also dad of the year Sasuke can bend time and space but can't spare a day or two once in a while to visit his daughter and wife because of his super duper important mission. But they still love him because he is cool and strong?

That was actually pretty cute, although maybe a little rushed. Either way it was cute enough for my first new show of the season and I'm looking forward to more.

Right, I doublechecked the ep last night and almost brought these points up but felt the actual content didn't effectively convey this passage of time even with Kircheis' four hour comment. In other incarnations, the beginning isn't almost entirely from Reinhard's POV as this is and each battle is given separation via downtime reaction to Imperial movements by the officers of the Free Planets Alliance in the other fleets. In particular, Yang is introduced much sooner and, in the case of the book, we're privy to quite a bit of Reinhard/Kircheis backstory between battles so there's a sense of separation to them. We get just a taste of that with the Moore/Lapp interaction but that comes directly after the four hour comment. Couple that with engagement of the 2nd fleet right after Moore's 4th fleet is destroyed and it easily feels like one fight after another.

I will say this though, I think we'd have saved a lot of discussion if someone had snagged this screen since it does a better job of illustrating fleet movement/distance/etc than anything I've had to say.

Beautiful animation, straightforward high fantasy in anime format which was and still is rare. Does everything need a great plot?
I didn't watch it in a time where I could appreciate that a straightforward fantasy show came out because I consume way too much fantasy media.

I do appreciate that there is one in Anime as it is a rarity. But it doesn't mean Id go out of my way to watch it again. When nostalgia doesn't play a hand it just makes it a pretty show with an important position in history. But if I want traditional fantasy I have other options.

They were saying Feuer, not Fuer, which I believe is the correct translation.
I thought the episode was OK, but I why didn't any Imperial ships take any damage? That was the only thing that bothered me. I usually hate when the seiyuu are recasted, but not in this one. I do know that Yang's seiyuu passed away a while back, and probably more since then, so I understand on some of the older anime. However, I hated the newer Initial D movies with the new cast. Most if not all of the original cast should still be around, so why the change?

Great to see this really funny show back. My only complaint is that Kukuri's VA wasn't as good as the original. Nike's was good. Now give me my Akazukin Chacha remake!

It's kinda annoying how it can often seem like if something doesn't have this life-changing plot that makes you question every set of belief you've had down to their foundation, it's not worthwhile or worth recommending.

How is the dub for those that have seen it?
Violet Evergarden English dub is stellar. 10/10

That is indeed the German word for Fire.

To answer OP's question a bit further, they're a faux-German empire. Everything's German, something something Heldensagen vom Kosmoinsel (<- not even a word. The entire sentence is nonsensical, tbh)

I used to feel like that, but the older I get the more I realize plots aren't that important. If a show doesn't have emotional resonance with a viewer then no matter how well done it is it'll never connect. I can appreciate the craftsmanship, but its like a beautiful house you don't wanna live in 'cause you don't like the countertops or something. The older I get, the more I realize "art is subjective" isn't an opinion, it's a fucking axiom.

Like...yeah, you can keep recommending the latest anime "classic"...but I'm still going to be more excited about some shonen trash probably lol.

Lol same. Plenty of works that I consider masterpieces and yet would prefer to rewatch all of Naruto over them.

Heh, that's how it started for me too. I just started watching random K-On! performances on YT few weeks ago then one thing lead to another and I decided to rewatch it. I barely remember the show strangely enough. I guess it has been a long time.

Yeah, the final performance and graduation definitely made me cry. I came to watch CGDCT, not cry and reminisce about high school ;_;

K-On is such a fantastic series.

Yah. I mean, Slice of Life might actually be my favourite anime genre, and I find that it can often carry a surprisingly strong emotional kick—I think the dedication to keeping things super chill most of the time really enhances the impact of otherwise mundane, ordinary events. The K-ON! graduation actually hits me harder than a lot of similar scenes in more dramatic anime, for instance.

And Yuri Camp will be soon dethrone K-On in the near future. :P

Preaching to the choir! Between Yuru Camp and Antarctica, this has been a ludicrously good season for Slice of Life—they're both great, and actually really, really different from one-another, too. I'm so glad that they both did pretty well, sales-wise.

Akame ga Kill ep.4-6
Damn, I wasn't expecting that kind of a mood whiplash already with only being the 6th episode. That was a pretty damn gruesome battle with lots of twists and turns with the ridiculous "trump card" nonsense coming into play...

edgy, bloody and unique, that is for sure. I liked the tone of the first 5 episodes much better though....

There are many ways that a work, an anime in our case, can resonate. The plot might not be anything groundbreaking, but the characters could be elevating it. It might look and sound like complete crap, but with fresh ideas and implementation of a theme or themes and vice versa. Nostalgia can also play a huge role, as well as how it compares relatively to what someone has been watching lately.

Personally I have been sick and tired of shows that you would call generic, tropey and safe when it comes to their plot for a while now. It's getting harder and harder for me to enjoy a Jump-like series and most shonen in general. Don't know a thing about Lodoss, but chances are I wouldn't be able to enjoy it right now if it's your regular high fantasy (even if that is something quite rare for an anime) that looks good.

Yuru Camp is good but lacks emotional impact or character development to be up there with the likes of K-On or Non Non Biyori.

Kakegurui was amazing from beginning to end. Loved all the games and risk taken with the crazy rules. Didn't like the fanservice much it was annoying
Sword Gai started well up untill episode and then it started to get boring but overall its an okay anime

Darling in the FRANXX S1E13

Episode 13 might be the turning point after which Darling in the FRANXX will either get interesting and full of twists or really predictable and average. Previous episode was so far low point of the show but this one finally pushed story in more significant way.

There's one thing though that I noticed while watching past few episodes - it's having serious pacing issues. First few episodes (I'd say right until the beach episode) we got this unknown world and it's slowly unraveling the world and showing its intricacies not just to us but also to main characters. Now the pacing is starting to feel has no clear focus on either drama aspect or combat and it often results in feeling very artificial and unbalanced. In some episodes we get basically nothing to push story further with 20 minutes full of combat and right in the next one it's suddenly flashbacks, explanations from completely new random characters etc.

Overally I still liked it and will keep watching it. Here are my thoughts on story after this episode.

Apocalypse or some huge disaster never happened. I'm more inclined to believe that humans found out how to clone humans and experimented. Results of those experiments might even be klaxosaurs or at least cause of the unending attacks on humans.

Humans eventually got too lazy/scared/comfortable to fight and started mass cloning kids to fight for them.

Kids are basically just shells in which scientists implant memories (might not be intentional, just glitches of improper testing or ), skills (to shorten training time) and maybe even personalities of their precursors and make them fight endlessly to protect plantations. If they get killed or uncooperative they'll just get reset and new group of kids replaces them.

Person with horns in last flashback could be 001 - first experiment where they tried to mutate humans with klaxosaurs but it failed and spawned 002.
