Just beat the final boss from Monster Hunter today with my friends.

We are all new to the series and it was an awesome fight. Very hyped about the new additions being announced in two days !

Yeah, I'm not convinced the new Monolith Soft game is coming this year - just because I don't know where you'd fit it in. But who knows?

I can hope.

I will have to give it a look. Returnal may be next, provided it reviews well and is something I think I can enjoy (seems to be, based on what I've seen).

I might also revisit Horizon. Sony are giving it away and I never played the DLC, so I might pop that in at some point.

But I thought Automata was awesome, so I suppose I should give Nier a chance.
Definitely give it a chance! By the time you get around to it, I imagine the game will be cheaper too

Awesome game really. It is very enjoyable solo and with friends. I am definitely a fan of the franchise now ;)

I mean that worked with Xenoblade 2 being in the same FY as a Mainline Zelda and Mario Game.
Why not again?

Also a good point. We've got Pokemon pencilled in for early next year and nothing else. It's difficult to say what is and isn't possible when we know nothing! lol

I don't want to get my hopes up (but I secretly will).

I've been playing Fez since yesterday (never played before) and, oh mamma, it is amazing, isn't it? The perspective mechanic feels so fresh and deep, the level design is so polished and the music is so Disasterpeace that I'm almost sorry I bought it for 10€.

Nintendo is mad enough to have Xenoblade in January I feel.

Guess if they release and are happening:

October is P:BDSP, November is BOTW2, January is XBC:3, February is Bayonetta 3, March is P:LA.

January would be tough though, most people spent their winter holiday money, so maybe by the end of January.

Xenoblade isn't that big of a series that I feel they would care too much about releasing it close to BOTW 2 and Pokémon Legends.

unless they want to give it its own spotlight and marketing campaign.

then again. I guess it depends when BOTW 2 and Pokémon Legends actually release.

I can't see Monolith Soft having a new game this fiscal year with BotW 2 and Pokémon Legends possibly staying in this FY
Probably December if it's happening, like with Xenoblade 2.
This must have been one of the most embarrassing moments in recent gaming history.

I've been reluctantly staying in certain fandoms until something explodes, and it always, always happens.

I've been wary about the Pokémon fandom since the toxicity created during Gen VI, and this basically forced me out, i'm not interacting with it anymore, i'm done with the Pokémon fandom.

Hell, not even the Castlevania fandom is safe, i was more or less comfortable, but then the
Alucard bi sex scene
happened in the Anime, and half of the fandom became nuts. I'm still in only because of my fanfic.
I'd argue this is more a problem with Internet discourse not allowing for nuance than anything else, especially on Twitter, which encourages toxic behavior by design.

Pokémon was a fairly uniquely volatile case, though, but I think much of the blame for that lies at the feet of Game Freak. A lot of the current mess Pokémon's fan base is in is the direct result of Game Freak starting to cater to one of its oldest toxic segments with all the Gen 1 pandering, some weird opinions about children's attention spans, and Game Freak allowing their development pipeline to languish with, at best, barely sufficient resources for the better part of a decade.

They're not going to put Xenoblade 3 in January. They'll just move games to the next fiscal year if need too. Only they know how close BotW 2, a new Xenoblade and Pokémon Legends are to each other

Blaming the devs for the harassment they have been receiving sure is something a toxic Pokemon fan would do. And let's not beat around the bush, this is exactly what you're doing.

What controller do you all recommend for Wii U virtual console?

trying to play Megaman Battle Network but the game pad is really uncomfortable for it. Works for Fire emblem and Advance wars, but playing fast pace games isn't cutting it

It's an unfortunate result of the Internet that dissatisfaction among a sufficiently large group almost invariably leads to harassment nowadays, but that's just the sorry state that Internet discourse has sunk to. Pokémon probably made it out of this situation far better than a lot of stuff like this, too, since, as far I can tell, there isn't some more sinister "culture war" motivation behind things, just pure disappointment. If someone decides to take disappointment and channel it into harassment, that's on them but we shouldn't just pretend the disappointment didn't exist in the first place.

Eh, Prime 1 and 2 already struck a pretty good balance between giving the player a basic premise and leaving them to explore and discover at their own pace as much as they wanted, similar to what you'd see in a game like Dark Souls (albeit on a smaller scale). Prime 3 and Other M was where they tried to bring more narrative into the games and it ended up being overbearing with little benefit, especially in the case of the latter. The quality of said narrative certainly didn't help but blockbuster game structure of cutscenes breaking up pockets of gameplay definitely doesn't lend itself to Metroid.

I'd argue that Prime 3 and Other M being poorly executed had more to do with the greater story/cutscene focus not working rather then it not working in the genre. Tying in cut scenes as a reward for exploration aka You found the Boss Room or A setpiece is coming up has been done well by other games in the genre IE Ori series. Its also been done by linear games set in single locations IE Tomb Raider 2013, Titanfall 2, Horizon Zero Dawn. PoP Series. Lego City Undercover That have light Metroidvania Elements

Me: That can't possibly be true, it's basically still March, I swear Bravely Default 2 came out just a few weeks ago and *looks at calendar* OH GOD IT'S PRACTICALLY MAY

My GoTY so far is Monster Hunter Rise, mostly by default (I haven't played any other 2021 games this year).

That being said, I expect Rise to stay on top until (and if) SMTV and/or BoTW2 come out and are as good as I'm hoping.

remember when we thought that NSO was getting a new console and/or a makeover width a new tier in April?

lmao

(fwiw it could still happen, but I don't think Nintendo makes huge announcements the last week of a month)

A game being terrible does not, ever, allow harassment in any form. Game Freak is not to blame, the blame lies solely on the harasser.

Is it too much to ask to play EarthBound on NSO? Maybe a remake is coming.

Maybe I've lost my mind.

So, a Xenoblade Chronicles X port, you say?

That sounds possible. But, also possible? EarthBound on NSO. But hey, what do I know?

I really dug Persona 5 Strikers but I kinda stopped playing it halfway through due to Warriors fatigue.
Valheim was a really fun and memorable multiplayer experience for me, did not think I'd enjoy it as much as I did.
Bowser's Fury is incredible, so glad we could play a new 3D Mario this early into the year, and one as well designed and fun as this one.
I have to play MH Rise more, but from what I've played, I will probably get addicted to it once I give it more time. I really enjoyed my first 6 hours though.

Currently I'm spending time with my PS4, which I abandoned back in 2016. Death Stranding is pretty okay, FF7R is genuinely great and Days Gone is the first game to make me fall asleep since Assassins Creed 3! However, the one game that really made me stick to the PS4 was 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim, which needs a Switch and PC port NOW.

But yeah, goty will be either BOTW2 or the new Metroid, so none of this matters.

At no point did I intend to imply otherwise. The point I was trying to make is that basically any sufficiently large controversy tends to blow up with harassment now, and it's not really a fan base specific thing. The controversy itself was largely of Game Freak's own creation, but they shouldn't have been harassed over it.
I'm 99% certain an X port is not coming this yr.
Yeah, it really doesn't make sense for an X port to be Monolith's next project. If it's coming, it will probably be after their next new project.

Man if we get a half 2 of

-BotW 2
-DK game
-Metroid
-Style Savvy
-Pokémon BD/SP
-New Monolith Soft game

This would be one of the besthalf 2's ever for me and that's not counting the big third party games like Mario + Rabbids 2, RE, etc

If they want to position it for Pro then it'll slide to a 2022 release. There really isn't much certainty when it comes to 2021 releases right now. At minimum, it should be announced this CY/FY.
Oh ok I see. The picture will be much clearer at E3.

This is why I get mad at people who want Grezzo to do another Zelda remake. Why do 2 remakes/ports in a row? I don't like that. Monolith Soft should never do it and they won't. Grezzo should make a new game now.

Xenoblade Chronicles 2 and Breath of the Wild released the same year, it's totally possible we'll see Monolith's new project this year. Not exactly a bold claim, imo.
