User Warned : Platform wars rhetoric.
This will probably trigger some folks but playing spyro or crash on anything other than a playstation should be a sin. It's like playing Mario on anything but a Nintendo console. I and many others grew up in a time where you had to have a playstation to play these IPs. For the life of me I don't know why Sony didn't buy them up. Crash and Spyro will always be playstation mascots to me.

Initially maybe for just the trilogy on both series (Crash has Racing and Bash too). But after that both brands have been on multiple consoles so either way it doesn't make much sense to think that they should be exclusive to PlayStation.

PS3's Sly Trilogy is arguably what kicked off this recent remastered-ground-up trend!
Which makes it all the more disappointing that we haven't got a peep from the IP this late into the gen. :(

I'll keep waiting for him!

Keep y'all pants on, a switch version WILL come.
Nintendo UK did this...

...and then removed it, implying it wasn't suppose to appear yet.

Looks damn good. I only ever played a decent amount of Spyro 2, but it was a pretty good game back in the day. I wonder how these titles hold up?

It looks better than expected. I was never really a huge Crash fan but I have plenty of nostalgia for Spyro so I'll be picking this up for sure.

I guess i'm going to hell then, because I remember playing both Crash and Spyro games on my Gameboy Advance SP ages ago.

Any other 3D platformers super-fans like myself revelling in all the new games we've received this past 2 years? Crash, Mario, Spyro, Yooka Laylee, A Hat In Time, Ratchet and Clank (counts IMO)....great times.

Now give us Banjo Threeie and Jak IV please.

I'll legit break down in tears if we ever got a real sequel to Banjo-Tooie. I just don't believe we ever will.

The remasters are a celebration of the originals. They don't replace them. Being multiplatform won't hurt these trilogies.

Lol yeah ok.

Yeah Sparx was completely redesigned and nobody knows why. ._.

At least he's too small to focus on. Hopefully.

Dunno why this shit always has to be so secretive with Nintendo ports, no one ever knows what the hell is going on. They always pulled this for the Call of Duty games on Wii/Wii U too, leaving it a big question mark if the damn thing was even coming out until like three weeks before it shipped.

Maybe Nintendo wants to keep it as an announcement for Nintendo Direct or something.

Yeah, I'm surprised that Sparx was redesigned considering how faithful everything else looks.

*image was here*

I love how he has arms and hands in artwork but the PS1 could never render it so he just didn't have arms or hands until The Legend of Spyro.

Has an in-game model ever eclipsed official artwork as the official look of the character before?

I REALLY hate to jump into this obsession over other platforms, but if this had any merit then what's the excuse for a PC version not being announced either - considering Crash is coming to PC?

That's all I'll say on this. I will discuss the game and its PS4/Xbox versions and ignore the garbage still lingering in this thread.

It's nice, but I immediately notice the lamentable lack of purples. It's like they went "well, sunsets don't actually look like that", when it was part of the mystical charm of the original visuals.
Maybe they're trying to make sure Spyro stands out from the backgrounds more? Otherwise, it's a weird change.

I'm really excited for this and think it looks perfect. I'm surprised we are getting all 3 games at once. Compared to Crash, there is just a lot more work to be done in terms of the size of the worlds, cinematic, side characters, etc. I remember each level in Ripto's Rage having a lot going on with the intros to every level.

The thing that worries me though is that Crash's gameplay (2 and 3 especially) are more timeless in terms of what you do and the challenge involved, Spyro from what I remember feels a bit more like a product of its time when it comes to just running around, collecting gems, dragons, etc. I hope they take a bit more liberties in terms of spicing up the gameplay than the Crash remaster did. Nothing major. The first game from my memory was incredible but when I went back to replay it, it felt barren.

Pretty sure I played Crash on my OGXbox.

I think the title for the thread should change a bit, since a swtich version IS coming, from the tweet I posted, we just don't know when.

This is exactly how I feel.

Spyro 1 is notably barebones in its game design. Hopefully the new visuals and music will hold my attention because I get bored of Spyro 1 before reaching Magic Crafters.

Spyro 2 and 3 are gonna be fine though.

Man the Switch fans are insufferable. I love the damn machine but give it a rest...

In any event, this looks very well done visually. I never was a big fan of Spyro growing up due to their being better alternatives platformers at the time - but maybe I'll give it a go now.

Man, the remaster reminded me just how much I simply viewed everything in Spyro's world as polygonal with minimal textures, even in my head. Seeing everything in HD is gonna feel rather weird.

Devs if you are reading this then you have my vote for making the game more colorful like the original games with regards to the sky and grass. This seems to be a common feeling among people here. Make it as true to the original as possible, for the fans!!

The thing that interests me with these Spryo remasters is finding out whether these were actually good games or not. I played the first three games at friend's houses when I was a kid, and enjoyed them, but I had absolutely no way of telling how good they were when I was 9 years old. I guess I've lumped them in with other platformers I played at the time- stuff like Muppet Mutant Adventure and Forty Winks, games which I also enjoyed at the time but (like Spyro, I guess), haven't been remembered at all within the platforming/adventure video game canon.

Spyro is slightly different to Crash in that it represents a form of game design which is so utterly out of fashion- somewhere between a collectathon and a more linear platformer. Crash is much more traditional and linear. It'll be interesting to see how it holds up.

(On a side note, incredibly, I've just found out that an N64 version of Forty Winks has just been funded on Kickstarter- so clearly people are nostalgic about that game too!)

They hold up pretty well. They're good games. But they are more Odyssey than Mario Galaxy so if the idea of running around and exploring vs crazy tight platforming is unappealing to you, you're gonna hate this shit.

Why does that matter?

I hope people won't act surprised when FF7R ends up on Xbox1
because in Wololo 's post he referred to the Ps1 games, which made both IPs famous and initiated their successes to the mainstream and have pretty much cemented Crash & Spryo as playstation mascots to this day even to casual gamers, regardless of the fact that they've been multiplatform for the majority of their lifetimes

also I won't be surprised if ffs7r comes to Xbone, but, I think a source at the old place said that it's going to be a similar situation to sf5, which means a PC port but no other consoles
OG Crash is the PS1 version - the one that is exclusive unless by PC emulation.
exactly
The remasters are essentially copies.
Nsane trilogy seems like an essential copy, but the Reignited trilogy doesn't seem as faithful with the designs and art style imo

I may actually pick this up unlike Crash. I like Crash more as a character but I remember not liking the games at all as a kid. I have a lot more fond memories playing Spyro.

I'm also glad they stuck with something close to the original design of Spyro over that Skylanders abomination.
