Just finished it. What a crazy ridiculous and crazy ride. The game was the strongest until the middle section. Afterwards it lost for me a lot of steam after loosing the fragility and also the self reflecting moments of Blazcowicz.
But also liked the "acting" scene even though I was hoping after the trailer that he will be singing in the Käfer band ;)

I was surprised though that the decided to get rid of that great character at the very end.

Nontheless an awesomely fun ride but due to more emotional story parts I did like part 1 more. But still full recommendation.

This courtroom mission is super annoying and I'm only playing it on medium difficulty.

They really need to rework this whole alarm/commander system. Especially when the ai is super cheap and just immediately knows where you are. Unlimited respawing enemies was super dumb in call of duty and is still super dumb here.

Audio mix is awful again too. At least the game is pretty and the story is keeping me interested.

Finished the second DLC. It's significantly shorter than the first clocking in at around 2 hours tops on Hard difficulty. All the pros and cons from the first remain except this one seemed to have more new assets compared to the first. The levels themselves were so small, consisting of maybe half a dozen rooms, that coupled with the somewhat new environments felt like unfinished levels meant for the vanilla game that were quickly patched together for DLC, especially the second one.

Still puzzled over the decision to make the DLC be fictional within the game's universe unless there's some ~~wild twist~~ in the upcoming final one, but a lot of my thoughts on the game are basically plain confusion about certain aspects of it. I'd like to see what the original development plan was since everything about it feels unfinished.

If you liked the Wolfen2 gameplay it's still worth it, just set your expectations at "$20 mission pack from the early/mid 2000s."

Finished this game and I enjoyed it.

Trailer of episode 2 looks cool, seems focused on stealth. But I'm feeling fatigued of the franchise because I played TNO, TOB and TNC back to back to back, so I think I would wait until Episode 3 is released before I start playing the whole thing.

Also, you guys were right about the side quest.
I did all ubercommando missions, and it was for nothing. If I remember correctly, Grace or someone else said doing the assasinations would help the revolution or something. I even did a mini grind for the enigma codes. Just doing the Manhattatan Penthouse district level because there was a commando underneath the starting point. I just kill the commando, get the enigma code and exit the level. I did that for a couple hours to farm enigma codes. It was all for nothing. I don't feel like doing all the collectibles.

Got the game on Xbone because the PC version has become unplayable on my PC. Got to THAT part. The ridiculous factor in this game is high.

So, I finally started this today, and so far, I am liking it. I thought the first mission was kinda slow and bit boring, but the game ramps up quickly. Currently I'm after:

The part in which the Resistance joins you in the U-boat and you're tasked to return to the flooded section F.

Also, I spent waaaay to much time playing the Wolfenstein arcade machine lol

Anya should have been the protag. Hell, she could take out the entire Nazi regime the way she kicks butt. That part near the end of the game. Jeez.

Spoilers ahead:

Finished the main campain and I must say as a massive fan of The New Order, I am a bit disappointed. The end is kinda... anticlimactic? I thought there would be an epic fight, what a massive disappointment. I loved the setpieces in The New Order and didn't like them a lot in Wolfenstein II. So many ruins, interiors look too samey, the beginning were you play in Evas Hammer drags too long. Venus was just boring/annoying to play and lacking in visuals. Looked like Doom. I thought Moon was waaaaaay better in TNO. There was the Prison, Gibraltar Bridge, Castles, Concentration Camp etc. in TNO. More variation.

And I don't know if its just me or did anybody else felt the atmosphere in TNO was just better overall? Nazis really felt like this overpowered enemy with superior tech. Seeing how they evolved their tech throughout the game helped building a unique atmosphere. Just compare the first Panzerhund or Super Soldiers you see/fight and compare them to the later ones. You stole superior tech like Evas Hammer or the helicopters. You have nothing like this in TNC. You go to Venus with some kind high-tech UFO but I don't remember anyone mentioning anything about it. So you just fly to Venus and go back like it was nothing. Like you book a ticket from London to Paris.

The big guns are great, standard weapons nothing special. Only thing we got were standard guns that you get in every shooter. Sure, TNO was nothing special either but I thought we would get some new crazy/experimental "fun to use" Yichud tech. Well, at least they felt good to use. Didn't like how the Perks are grindier in TNC.

I also thought that the game was just right on "normal" difficulty. I played on PC and the controls felt perfect. Easy headshots, aiming generally felt pretty great with a mouse.

Played 4 times through TNO, won't play a second time through TNC. Still a great game but I had a better time with TNO.

It's a shame how they got rid of the concept art you'd automatically get in TNO/TOB that automatically also gave you info on the game's world such as the Robodog and UberSoldat 1946/1960 differences among other things such as environment information. It's slightly hinted through TNC but never outright stated: What did Deathshead death accomplish in terms of gameplay changes? I guess you're meant to assume the downgraded Ubersoldiers that are now part of regular enemy mobs are cheap mass produced versions now that he isn't around anymore, same with the slower and weaker Panzerhund, though iirc some developer interviews pre-release just said these were variations of the regular models that the Nazis used specifically for America and the the regular ones were for Europe that you fight in TNO. What's the deal with the regular humanoid robot enemies you start fighting in the Roswell level which are confusingly called SuperSoldaten? Are those the ~~machine men~~ Deathshead talks about at the intro of the final level of TNO?

The post-game was a bad idea overall and they shouldn't have bothered with the Uber Commander missions. The underwhelming ending would've been slightly more effective if you were sent back to the main menu after the credits instead of the now-empty hub with endlessly repeating conversations (I met the incredible Tank Man once!!!!). It's a really desperate attempt at increasing the game's 12-15 hour length and only highlights how many of the environments are repetitive metal Nazi bases in addition to making them feel extremely artificial when there's no storyline attached to them. There's such little creativity in them that at times, especially once it set in during the game's later half, it felt like I was playing Doom 2016's Snapmap mode circa release with all the pasted together corridors and square rooms.

Like with Doom 2016 I can forgive a lot of the game's flaws simply because the combat is still miles ahead of any FPS released in the last two decades, but even by video game standards everything about this game gives me the impression that development was a big mess. Strange things such as the tonal shift between the two halves, glaring oversights such as missing animations and sounds, the uneven difficulty and hit feedback, how pointless the late game abilities are, the extremely repetitive and at times confusing level design, etc. If it weren't because of the current zeitgeist I doubt this would've reviewed as well as it did, though at the same time maybe that's for the best since the third one might fix a lot of these issues*. At the same time I'm like, do I want another story heavy Wolfenstein game? I don't find Yahtzee interesting but I can't disagree with his review of this game. The New Order was a creative take on the franchise that popularized the FPS genre and despite what it was advertised as it was very subdued and downbeat, pandering to that over the top action of the genre while at the same time going against that same power fantasy - how many of the people who played the game expected that ending? BJ Blazkowicz giving people hope for the future, taking down one of the major Nazi leaders then dying? Did we need a sequel where he's alive, mopes for a few hours then gets better and the game and storyline degrade itself to the same feel good action film you've seen and played hundreds of times before since the inception of the medium? Regardless of how much Wolfenstein III improves the gameplay shortcomings I'll be surprised if it's any improvement on the storytelling front, I mean you already had the main character
get decapitated then revived
and everything is fine afterwards, ignoring all the pathos of the last game and its DLC. If something that major can be handwaved away why should anyone care about the story? At the very least please don't have 10 minute unskippable interactive cutscenes anymore.

* and if my development estimates are correct it'd also release circa the 2020 USA elections which means discussions online regarding the hypothetical Wolfenstein III will be a trainwreck

I'm at the Courthouse level and don't like this very much. Loved the first, but this just doesn't feel as tight as that game. Not even playing on the highest difficulty and the game is ridiculous. I don't find the encounters to be well designed, the story is bland so far, and the shooting isn't very good.

Using the scoped rifle and it's one of the worst scoped weapons I've ever used in a shooting game.

Hoping the second half improves.

Apologies for the late bump, but do all of the Uber Commander missions feature zero checkpoints? Because W T F

Got so frustrated with killing the commander, only to be insta-killed out of nowhere three separate times that I considered dumping the game... But I may as well finish the campaign.

Also, the Max Hass and Set chess match was incredible.

You can save manually through the menu (or quicksave with F5 on PC) unlike most modern games.

Where the hell are Anya, Set and everyone else at the end?

They just don't seem to exist anymore...

Just beat this game, what a fun ride. I played this on baby mode and had a blast but feel like I would've strongly disliked it at any other difficulty. I really really hope that we end up fighting Mecha-Hitler in the third game in a massive culminating battle in castle Wolfenstein

From 'quake area to big OH.
What a ride. I enjoyed it. Can't remember the first well enough for comparison.

There were a few strange parts in level design and difficult spikes. Otherwise shred through enemy, especially dual wielding and upgraded.

I just started playing the Switch port and I'm disappointed that just like Doom you can't record gameplay. I guess it takes up system resources?

i started it and i am pretty disappointed so far.
i thought after the horrible sound design of the first they'll up their game and improve and nope. weapons still sound super weak.
another problem i have is that i can barely see enemies at all. everything has the same color....(playing it on ultra settings)

I picked it up for the X yesterday, I'm at Manhattan. I'm really enjoying it. I thought the first one was pretty bad honestly. The writing and cutscenes blew me away, but as a shooter I thought it was awful. And yeah, I think this one is too, in fact, the level and encounter design work is actually a step back, but I turned it down to baby mode, and I'm just brainlessly blasting through it now, and it's actually fun in a purely visceral juggernaut sense. But beyond that, I love what they're doing with the setting and story this time. I thought it was good in the last one, for sure, but they've really upped their game in the absurdity and lampooning of the Nazi regime. And not to get too dark, but it feels like something I really needed to play with the more depressing aspects of the current political climate.

It's not a well designed campaign, the combat isn't top tier, the tech isn't particularly impressive, but it is an amazing example of greater than the sum of its parts. I don't know how much is left, but it's really pretty fantastic so far.

Is my PS4 dying, or does this game start to use some screen effects after the mid-point in the game lol?

Ever since BJ
got his head cut off and attached to the new body
I've been noticing some small screen effects in the lower left and/or right side of my screen. Basically it looks like a few bluish squares, about 3 or 4 in a row, start to distort. They only appear for a few seconds and then go away.

They only appear when im playing Wolf 2 though, so im assuming its something with the game.

That's not normal at all and it's probably hardware related.

Seriously lol? It is an old PS4, so I could see that being the case. Ill do some research and see if others have noticed it.

They are almost like pixels, but abit larger. Like 8-12 pixels together making a square. They are grouped up into a line. I mean it totally looks like a screen distortion effect, but I dont know.

so after he dies and comes back and you have the choice of new abilities.... is it fair to say you can go back and reply the game which each new ability and it will provide a different experience? That would add a lot of replay ability

Very very little, almost nothing of value.

You can still get them all in one playthrough if you do the side activities.

You can get the additional abilities later in side-missions.

Finally finished the game. The gameplay took a step back IMO, but the story was absolutely first rate. I'd like to replay it at some point. Is there a new game plus option? I'd rather restart with all my perks and upgrades intact.

LTTP but fuck me twice sideways on a sunday, this game was legit awesome. Just completed it tonight, and I have to say, game of the year for 2017/2018/2019 :) I just completed THE OLD BLOOD too, so this was a total treat and a half. Game is a work of art in every category.

I feel like a facist scumbag for waiting this long to purchase and play this game. I should have bought it at full price. The devs deserve as much.

What a game. Honestly.

I bought the complete edition for just $19 on the black Friday sale. Currently playing it on my ps4 Pro in 1080p and it runs beautifully. So the technical side is sound. I'm about 60/70% through it I'd guess. It's just blown my mind some of the things that have happened and it's very rare a game gives me that feeling. The gameplay side of things are brilliant and the graphics are decent. But the real winner here is the story. I played the new order and it's expansion the old blood back on the ps4 original a few years back so I'm attached to the characters. They do such an awesome job with the whole thing. I can't go into details because I'll spoil it but I'd recommend everyone who likes shooters with a good story behind it to buy this. Currently on sale for €25 on ps4 and the complete edition is €35. You won't regret it.

So a few moments that impressed me. The opening mission on the wheel chair.
Finding out there's a secret unit hiding in your U-Boat.
The level where you meet your father and the house gets pulled up.
Meeting the ufo guy in the town and then being able to stealth the train mission and most of the one after.
Nuking the base.
Your lawyer hilariously failing. It cracked me up when he headbutted the desk.
The scene in the courtroom.

Finally getting my head chopped off sent shivers down my spine. I was like no fucking way did they kill Mr B. Then them catching his head and putting it in a pickle jar before attacking him to a nazi super soldier body. That was kojima level and blew my mind.

Can't wait to finish it tomorrow then play the DLC.

Noah Caldwell-Gervais just did an extremely good essay on this game. Here it is:

Reposting Errant Signal's/Campster's one here too since it's good as well, I think it might be the only one that mentions the game's takes on masculinity and femininity - something which it excels at (unlike the rest of the themes it has which are all over the place), something I think most people missed.

Very psyched to jump into Caldwell-Gervais's video, love his criticism, and I just started it, but...does he call them MachineHead Games the whole way through? Gonna irk me the whole way through, ha.

Playing this on my Pro, the graphics look very pretty (1080p). It's my first single player game on the Pro, maybe it is just placebo but it looks better than all other fps I played on original PS4.

After playing about 2 hours I am in a love/hate relationship: I love the guns, the art style, the enemies look nice (is there anything ugly about killing nazis?). The wheelchair intro was quite unique, first time used one lol

But then, the game is really fast, you move fast even when not running, but the collision with objects is terrible. I am all the time stuck behind 10-20cm barriers, I fell on the water and died 5 times in a row trying to find how the hell I can get out of there. Feels like the game gives you speed that the level design (and bugs) cant handle. You have a powerful suit but you cant jump over some objects or fences that are the same size or smaller than the ones you can. I also hate that when you shoot there is too much light/effect coming out of your weapon, so you cant really shoot and aim at the same time. Edit: and it is always buggy to go down inside some holes, always stuck in invisible walls.

I hope it gets better later.

After a kinda slow beginning the 2nd and 3rd thirds of the game are way more interesting. It reminds a bit of Rockstar's writings, the characters are overly stereotyped in a funny way.

Gotta say I was expecting the
fat nazi to actually be an infiltrated nazi and that she would be the final boss. When you come back to the base and it's all dark I was legit thinking she started killing people, same for when the guy's arm goes missing, I was sure it was her.

The story is way way way over the top but in a nice way, gave me lots of smiley moments (wtf is happening).

Game could have more enemy variety, to be fair after I got the shotgun I was basically using the shotgun + scout together and destroying anything. If there were big machines I could use the laser but that wasn't always necessary. Difficulty is waaaay unbalanced, tou can play 30 straight minutes without even coming close to dying and the get stuck for 30 minutes in a room...

I really enjoyed the Hitler part lol.

And the game could have more vibrant visuals, that city in the beginning where you go to the pizzaria looks gorgeous but then the rest of the game is grey/dark/metal. I liked the gunplay a bit but I think for a game to be this fast you need bigger areas, I died lots of times because I couldn't move properly (as I said in the post above).

Edit. i didn't do any side mission and probably wont get the DLCs either. Am I losing anything special (I only care about story)
